I think one of us has misunderstood the other.
Yeah, they keep wanting this, but for some reason, BLM and Antifa, two of their biggest lefty boogeymen, just are not taking the bait. There’s also the problem of finding an “armed liberal mob” in the first place - shhh, don’t tell them!
Right, and this is why they’re talking up BLM and Antifa to be about a thousand times more actively violent and organized than they actually are. If you can’t find any armed terrorists to oppose, you have to invent some.
Gun-owning liberals exist. It’s very much a thing, and on the uptick. But with them it tends to be a private, prudent precaution against social collapse. They’re not like conservatives, publicly parading around with long arms hoping that somebody else will start something.
Perhaps I did misunderstand.
Pulled out of there indeed!
But to indulge me, if these 7400 people committed a violent assault this year, that would be 7,400/800,000 violent assaults per year, or an increase of about 1%. Well within the year to year variability in these stats. And these folks are scattered around the country, and too stupid/mentally ill to get organized.
Anyone with the ability to organize would be intelligent enough (presumably) to see what has happened to organizers of violent insurrection attempts in the not too distant past.
I think we might see a few highly publicized cases, but nothing to actually get worried about.
My admittedly pulled out of my ass figure of 99.99% means that 1 in 10,000 Republicans would be “willing to give it a go”. 36 million registered Republican voters. 1 in 10,000 means 3,600 idiots willing to give it a go. Scattered around the country. They’d all be in jail before the sun sets.
It is estimated that about a third of that number entered the Capitol building illegally on January 6.
Federal prosecutors have charged more than 700 people with participating in the protests at the U.S. Capitol, and new indictments and arrests are still continuing almost daily. Early in the arrests (when the number was closer to 400), most news media outlets said some 800 people entered the Capitol, but now the number—circulating in classified assessments made by the Secret Service and the FBI, and obtained exclusively by Newsweek— is 1,200.
I think your numbers might be a bit conservative (pun intended) if you’re talking about folks nationwide willing to engage in violence.
Now this guy was Smart… /s
I am too aware of my own stupid mistakes, in the past and to come; if I am being generous, it is to myself as well.
Dude’s dead. Evidently had ties to Jan 6.
Remember kids–dying alone and unmourned in a corn field is the right way to do it.
Another death on 45’s head.
That’s one way to look at it. Another way is One fewer Trump voter.
So, if you attack an FBI office with guns, they’ll send you to the corn field.
Seems 100% accurate.
How they did it in the Revolution? With single-shot muskets, then shift to the bayonet?
I wish I could concur, but no way - despite the majority of them being cowards who take potshots and then run away to their comfy basements, and even if it turns out that only .0001% of those scumbags commit chargeable crimes - nah, their greasy shenanigans will not be on the decline at all. Wishing my speculation turns out to be dead wrong, but I wouldn’t it past a lot of these shmucks to stupidly risk prison time so they can get in their “vengeance”.
Wait, is that what our mods are doing to spammers and trolls?!
Holy shit, the SDMB doesn’t mess around! I thought they were just banning accounts and deleting threads.
Only if it’s narrated by Ken Burns…
“FIELD OF DREAMS” about that great “murican” pastime of insurrection.
Of course one view does not exclude the other.
