Bwahahahah. It all makes sense now.
I’ll tell you why this season hasn’t been as funny as previous ones. I offer no cites, but watch for it and you’ll see it, too.
Dennis just isn’t as funny this season.
Charlie is still crazy (Wild Card!), Dee is still insecure and really funny, Frank still gets in a few good Frank lines every now and then, and Mac is… well, he’s still Mac. But Dennis is kind of off this year. Only during the episode where Frank had him competing to be on the billboard did he have any good stuff. Most of the time, he’s kind of just… there, not being funny.
Watch for it. Hopefully, I’ll get proven wrong
His line in the preview for this week’s episode gives me hope.
Reading from the novel he’s apparently written: “She was much older than I was, but her breasts were…awesome.”
This season has lost my wife. We both loved the first season and really liked the second. It started tailing off during the third season and this season has gotten too absurd to be funny. I think the thing that has changed is that Danny Devito’s character is too insane now. He started out a little eccentric but was fairly level headed most of the time. Now he is just an older Charlie. The poop episode is the one that lost us. There was no reason for that story and it wasn’t even really funny. Frank pooping everywhere made no sense and it reminded me of how the Simpsons deteriorated as Homer got dumber and dumber until he was fully retarded.
The best episode by far is the one where Dee and Dennis get hooked on crack to stay on welfare followed closely by any episode with the Opoyles. The only funny parts this season were the gloryhole (what’s the pasword? OOORRRGGGGYYYY) and Charlie the wildcard (Wildcard bitches!). Other than that I haven’t laughed much this season.
Oh I liked when Mac wrecked Dees car and hurt himself.
This is a good comparison and it’s my fear as well.
Unfortunately the show has been picked up for like four more seasons or something ridiculous, so I think it’s going to run itself into the ground in fairly short order.
Unfortunately? If it’s on the air, the quality might keep on going down the drain, or they could turn it back around. If it’s off the air, well, it’s just gone.
Why are people always so eager to think that a show is done, that it won’t ever get any better?
I see a lot of people pointing to the poop episode as a sign that the show has lost it. While it wasn’t the best episode, I thought it was very good. For most of it, I was thinking “Ha, ha. ‘Poop is funny.’ This is lame.” Then Artemis does her Miss Marple routine, explaining (incorrectly, but in great detail) the origins of the poop. Suddenly, it seems as if perhaps there really will be a pay-off to the poop story. And then Frank admits, “I did it all. Poop is funny”. That was the real pay-off - it was a stupid story about poop. I don’t know if that’s irony or what, but it made me laugh and made the whole episode worth it.
If anyone still thinks that the show has lost it after last night’s episode, then I just don’t know what to tell you, 'cause that shit was hilarious.
'Cause you Sinbad’s Bitch!
Charlie’s reasoning for why he does the crazy shit he does had me laughing so hard that I’m going to have to go back and watch it again because there were about three minutes there where I couldn’t hear the dialogue because I was laughing too hard and I couldn’t see the screen because of the tears in my eyes.
Last night’s was okay. I liked how everything came together at the fountain at the end and the various things they all use it for. Also liked Dee’s attempt at stand-up and the same thing happening to Charlie immediately after. Dennis’ book was pretty funny, too.
One of the better ones this season, definitely. Still not up to seasons 1-2 standards, but maybe the show needs a little time to find its legs again.
Agreed. The first half of this episode was as good as anything they have done. The second half I thought was as weak as anything they have done.
When Frank asked Mac if Mac wanted to walk a mile in HIS shoes, I was hoping for so much more than just a wig.
Oh, and I was hoping Sinbad would be wearing something made of windbreaker
That was the best throwaway line of the show last night, but I’ve been laughing about it all day.
I’m going to go have some cat food and then huff glue and lie down.
Um, how about a little warning before linking to something entitled “Danny DeVito Sex Tape”?
It seems like the first two seasons dealt with huge societal issues like homelessness and abortion, I haven’t really seen that much of it recently (unless it’s more subtle now).
Did you actually watch it? It’s not really a Danny DeVito sex tape. And besides, in a thread dedicated to all things “Sunny,” I think a NSFW warning is really just redundant.
And to the comment that Frank is getting crazier…of course he is! He lives with Charlie! He has to scarf down cat food, huff glue, and drink beer every night jsut to fall asleep! You do that for a couple years and tell me if you don’t go crazy.
The best part of this show is that even the bad episodes have some truly hilarious lines. “I had my asshole bleached” and “he was going to find out anyways” totally redeemed the poop episode in my book.
Artemis: “I’m gonna take off my bra, blast my nips!”
Dee’s Comedy Club routine had me pratically pissing myself with laughter. When she’s on her game, she’s the funniest one IMO. Her walking away in crutches in “Charlie Gets Crippled” almost killed me.
Did you guys know Charlie and the hot waitress are married IRL?
And Mac and Sweet Dee were married this past summer.
So I guess that just leaves Dennis, but I’m sure he’d be happy to simply marry himself.
