It's been a really shitty month.

I second Qadgop recommendation of Al-Anon. It can really help.

I was your son for a while, except without the son. I got sober when my family said ‘Either you get sober or we stop all contact. We will help you find somewhere to get sober but nothing else’.

At that point I had a choice. I knew I needed to quit but a) didn’t quite want to quit and b) had no idea on how to quit.

Long story short, I ended up in a halfway house. If I can get sober, anyone can, so there is hope.

I will be 13 years sober on the 20th.

I highly suggest you go to Al-Anon and talk to people and, additionally, find a therapist in the area that deals with addiction issues and speak with them.

Whatever happens, it is going to be rough. I wish you the best.

I’m going to add on to the Al-Anon recomendation. I spent a number of years on the “other” side of the church basement drinking bad coffee and [del]bitching[/del] sharing. Try different groups if you find one more woo than you can stomach, but they are out there and there is moral support from those who have been where you are and some who still are.

Really sorry to hear this. I’ve had friends go back out drinking and it really sucks. That much worse if it were a child, I’m sure.

He was discharged today, and I think is staying with his mother for the time being. Docs gave him a list of addiction therapists. I hope he follows through on it.
