Has anyone on this board ever once, since 9/11, seen or heard any American, liberal or otherwise, shouting about great bin Laden is? Even once? Loudmouth asswipe conservatives (as opposed to the quietmouth reasonable ones) love to make this claim. Which goes to prove what wonderful imaginations they have.
I’m surprised to find myself defending O’Reilly, but…can we get a clear quote from the man before we get outraged? Is this really what he said? If so, that was a stupid comment. As tdn already said, I can think of no one shouting about how great Bin Laden is.
Psycho Pirate, normally, I would agree that we need a direct qoute. However, both because you are a supervillian, and because so is O’ Reilly, I no longer feel the need too. Besides, he has said worse stuff then this, so I have no problem believing he said it.
Wish I could. I caught a piece of his radio broadcast yesterday on a local radio station. There may be transcripts available. I don’t know.
Why am I listening to him in the first place?.. Don’t know. ‘Cuz it’s a short drive and the music on all other stations sucked and NPR needs to get hosts who’s voices don’t make listeners slip into a coma. Yeah, Diane Rhem and Kojo Annandi (?), I’m talkin’ to you.
“Imagine you’re one of the 9/11 families and you see some yahoo on the street burning the flag and protesting against the gov’t and yelling how great Ossama Bin Laden is while fucking the corpse of your grandmother on a pile af newborn babies covered in honey next to a anthill filled with fireants all on your best linens… Wouldn’t you get upset at seeing the flag burned in that manner?”
I’d rather think of it as the lion lying down with the lamb. I’ve never been comfortable with our enmity. I think Sam Stone is correct: the classical and modern liberals are, if not coming together completely, at least beginning to understand one another better.
Parsed literally, the answer is “Yes.” If I were one of the 9/11 families and I saw some yahoo on the street burning the flag and protesting against the gov’t and yelling how great Ossama Bin Laden is I would get upset at seeing the flag burned in that manner?
I think that’s beyond dispute. In fact, even though I’m NOT one of the 9/11 families, if I saw some yahoo on the street burning the flag and protesting against the gov’t and yelling how great Ossama Bin Laden is, I’d get upset.
The question is what inference we may draw from that. My being upset - or even a 9/11 family getting upset - is not sufficient reason to change the law. I am sympathetic to everyone - myself most of all - but neither the 9/11 families nor I have, or should have, a legal right to be free from upset. If I do have such a right, then Michael Moore’s very existence is in jeopardy.
But as NurseCarmen has pointed out (beautifully), there is a problem with O’Reilly’s non sequitur about cheering Bin Laden. That’s what makes him a certified dick.
Yeah, what the fuck happened to him? I remember it as if it were last month (because it might’ve been last month) that seeing Scott_Plaid’s name on a thread meant there was one less thread I’d need to read. Now there’s this almost-boring changeling using his account.
I won a debate with Bricker on the subject on Judaism, but along the way, Guin stated that I had taken things too far. I kinda respect her, most of the time. I could not figure out what I said wrong, decided it was my tone, and lurked a lot more on debates against people I disagreed with. Now, I hang back a little more, save for situations where I am sure I am 100% in the right.
Wait, does those two statement contradict each other?
Oh, and coming from you, dropzone, boring seems like an odd term.
