It's hurricane season in the MMP

Hey, I used to live near there. The kids always hoped that would get 'em a day off school, since blizzards and -25º never did. The eternal optimism of youth.

MetalMouse, I don’t feel very dear right now. I’m hiding. I had a former colleague contact me to apologize for some nastiness that happened 7 years ago and ask for my help with the instigator of said nastiness. That took up this evening and I am now trying hard to look like a rock, a very boring rock.

Swampy, I poured myself a glass of wine because it’s been that kind of a day, and it took me 15 minutes to locate it. Not the same thing as the missing torches, but I feel ya.

Beck, I’m sure your grocery bills are astronomical, but I’m also sure you love feeding that bunch. It’s going to be so quiet when they leave, and much as you like Mr. Wrek, it’s a letdown to cook for two people. Maybe they could leave the yappers behind!

In the At Least I Was Already Home department - my city enacted an 8 PM curfew at about 7:25. The liquor store across from me is helping - they’re locked up and gone. So far, it’s not been overly crazy here, and I’m glad the city is trying to keep it even less crazy now. Yesterday, the marauders broke into a froyo shop that was still shut down and a Supercuts. Guess they wanted sprinkles and mediocre haircuts? No idea if that was before or after breaking into the Dollar Tree. Bored suburban kids.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 87 and partly cloudy (partly N.O.S.?) for the day. Today we shall embark upon spiffin’ da cave and laundry. Fun. Sup shall be a sausage/cabbage/carrot/onion thing I kinda make up as I go along. It’s a one pot dish and is always tasty. Fartfest to follow.

Hope everything is calmer in the places where there are riots. Maybe the curfews will help, although if a horde of folks decides to do so anyway, I wonder how much good a curfew would do.

Nellie you forgot where your wine was?

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

 I have been remiss!

Happy birthday, Bumbazine!

All quiet on the Western Front, although not for long! My lovely DJ friend emailed me three new releases, a download of his internet radio show that airs tomorrow night, and send me a CD in the post that arrived this morning. There will be choons in my future! To be fair, he emails me loads of promo stuff that he gets, so my music library gets ever larger.

I’ve given up watching the news, it’s all far too depressing. I am beyond sad at what’s happening on your side of the water, on the one hand I understand that the rioting is a reaction to an awful event, but I can’t get my head around the looting etc as it’s doing nothing to make me sympathise with people and it’s doing far more harm to innocent people. But this is not the place for politics either…

Today the washing machine has decided to play silly games. I started the normal laundry cycle this morning and it stopped when it got to the spin bit. All the lights on the machine were flashing so I assume that means something’s clogged up somewhere. That’ll be down to the immense amount of cat fur on items of clothing! Have to get that unclogged and work out how to get the machine to let me open it and get stuff out. It’s the last decent weather day for a while so if stuff’s really soggy it can go outside for the afternoon.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Bumba Day!!!

Fasting and drinking water prior to visiting the vampire. Then I’ll run to Aldi for a few things.

The leftover chicken will become chicken salad, per request from daughter and FCD. I’ll also make another cuke salad. That should fill a few minutes of my afternoon.

Happy Tuesday!!

No hurricanes this far inland but we have some hellacious tornadoes

May 6th, 1975 I quit work at lunch ans Sunflower and I went to the courthouse for our marriage license. We went on home and I made some steak sandwiches for our lunch. Just as we were sitting down to eat the sirens sounded. An F-5 tornado touched down and left about an eight mile long path of destruction through the center of town. Some said it was an omen…

Morning all. Just can’t seem to sleep past 6:30am these days. Another warm day near 90F is due, the weather folks say a 40% chance of rain this morning but i don’t see it, so hot again.

Need to do some banking later on but that’s the only get-out-of-house reason I have. Probably should also do a couple loads of laundry, running out of blue jeans and PJ bottoms.

Happy Birthday Bumba

boofae, good luck with the washer. And enjoy the music!

nellie, seven years is a long time; be wary. And I always put something down before going out then have to get out of the car and come back inside to find where I left it.

Purp, sounds like good advice for Becks; and tornadoes are something to fear, you need to be ready.

gotti, interesting about the video doctor interview; hard for them to do much, I would think, with blood, BP, etc., but I guess if it’s just a normal check-in…

Nettie, yeah, the next six months could be equal to the old (and falsely attributed) Chinese curse “May you live in Interesting times…”

Hang in there all.

Back - the phlebotomist was good - I hardly felt the needle, and I was out of there in about 2 minutes! Next, I drove thru McD’s because I was getting a headache - sausage biscuit took care of that. I got to Aldi about 5 minutes before they opened for geezer shop, and I was in and out of there in about 5 minutes. I only needed a few things - didn’t even need a cart!

It rained on me a bit as I came home - today’s supposed to be mostly cloudy and mid-70s. So far, it’s cloudy… Indoor day, I expect. **FCD **had his meeting and he’s back in bed - good. Poor guy had a bad night. I hope the Dr can give him some good news tomorrow, or better drugs, or something.

Onward!

For your entertainment, the saga of the air conditioner:

So, it was time to put the two window air conditioners back in place. Kopek insisted on carrying them down from the second floor and keeping them in the detached garage, even though I suggested just keeping them in each room in which they would be used. He always carried them in & out, up & down the stairs, so I didn’t say too much (ha!). Well, now he’s not here, so what the hell do I do? Numerous friends have asked me if I needed help with anything so I asked for help with this.

On Friday afternoon, I decided to see just how heavy these things are and managed to get the one AC off the garage shelf and as far as the back porch, when I realized (a) there was definitely no way I could safely get it upstairs, and (b) it was truly disgusting and had fuzzy things growing in it. Well, that wasn’t going back in my bedroom in that condition, so I looked up youtube videos on how to clean ACs and it didn’t look too difficult, so I got it as far as the kitchen and commenced to taking it apart. I got all of the detachable stuff off and cleaned in the kitchen sink and then tried to remove the case. The heads of two screws got stripped and after much swearing, trying every trick I knew, plus a few more I learned on the internet, and a little more swearing, I surrendered for the night. I got up early Saturday morning and took myself to Home Depot for a set of screw extractors (because I couldn’t find the ones I know are here, which led to yet more swearing) and a pack of new screws.

The screw extractors worked (with a little more swearing for encouragement) and I hauled it back outside to the back porch for the big scrub down. It was really disgusting but I got it about 90% better than it was, so I was pleased. After a couple of hours, I put it all back together, didn’t have any parts left over (yay!), then plugged it in on the back porch to make sure it powered up without sparking, exploding, or any other such thing. It worked – victory is mine!

When the guys came over, one of them carried it upstairs with his manly muscles like it was nothing, and we got it installed. They got the second AC out of the garage and we got that one installed too (it’s newer and was still pretty clean, thank goodness!). They stayed for a while and we had a nice visit.

The guys really wanted to meet Phoenix The Cat but she hid upstairs the whole time they were here, then came out just as they got in their car. They have two cats of their own so they understood.

And now the cat is miffed because I’d had that master bedroom window open for the past couple of weeks and she liked to lie in that window (there are two other open windows in that room so she’s hardly deprived). She now goes up to the window, sniffs around the AC and hits it with her paw, then gives me dirty looks.

And I have decreed that the air conditioners shall now reside upstairs in the house forevermore. Amen.

And to quote Kopek – “First on page 2!!!”

I am impressed that you’d disassemble, clean, and reassemble an a/c! Not that I’m a stranger to cleaning out large, powered devices, but a window a/c is a bit beyond my comfort level. Good on ya!

Still, I’m worried about that miffed cat. Watch your back!!!

Birthday happies to Bumba!

(Nobody happies a birthday like Swampy!)

The daily insanity crushes me almost to tears. I see cops taking a knee, marching with protesters, AGREEING with protesters, and that heartens me. Then I see assholes (nicest word I could think of!) Destroying, stealing, burning, and I’m crushed to my soul. The COVID has taken SO much from society, and the assholes are determined to destroy what is left. Oh, I grieve!

My grandbabies, my COTUs, what are the crumbs we will leave to them?

**VOW **- I also wonder what Roxy’s world will be. I worry especially because her father is black, and she has curly hair and darker skin. I’m just thankful she’s not a boy - black women don’t seem to be attacked quite as much as men and boys. Still, dare I hope that she won’t have to worry about it when she’s older?

Yeah, right…

If they are on the second floor, how will you clean them next year?

The older one (10 years old?) was so bad because it had never been taken apart and thoroughly cleaned before. I’ll give them a good cleaning when I bring them in to keep on top of it. I figure that even if I disassemble them again, I can wipe & vacuum their innards to get the worst of it.

Or I’ll invite you and other MMPers over for a cleaning party.

Will we get to blow things up?

I just gave her some yogurt so she loves me now - I think … (looks over shoulder warily).

Happy Toosday!

Happy Birthday Bumba!

Rainy day, 61 degrees but supposed to get up to 80.

Had to rush out of the park this morning as Toby, an unneutered male, showed up.

We didn’t go yesterday, Ripple got a fever again on Sunday afternoon. I was pretty worried about him and was sure we’d have to go to the vet in the morning. I was up half the night checking on him, and he finally jumped up on the bed to sleep. Then sometime early early in the morning he got up and threw up all over the place. On the carpeting of course.

Now he’s okay.

Home Depot finally called, my rocks are ready to be picked up. They only had 23 bags. I finally found last year’s order information and I had bought 44 bags last year. I think 23 bags plus 4 left over from last year won’t be enough.
It’s all they have so we will make do with it until they get some more in stock.
My son wants to go get them today, in the rain, and no parking out front.
Somebody has a big hulking ugly assed work truck parked in front of my house.
Maybe there will be parking by then.

Still trying to get some stuff to irk on my new phone, although in all honesty, I having been trying real hard.

Nettie, remember in school when the whole class would have stay after because of one or two students who misbehaved? Prepping us for real life.

Very impressive OW and I agree, watch your back with the cat.

Sari, tell BAWT (big ass work truck) he can park in front of your house, NO PROBLEM! But first, he’s gotta make a run to Home Depot and pick up your rocks!
