Flytrap, I tried that. For the last two hours, I’ve been doing tech support and remote help. Evidently, one of my drivers went AWOL. Once everything is downloaded, we can see if it worked. If not, I’ll have to [del]bribe[/del] call a coworker.
Have I said how much I hate tech that develops independent , quirks?
FCM, I hope FCD gets through the night ok and lights a fire under that Dr. and Pharmacy tomorrow.
Bumba, Sunny, I have a Brother printer, and so far it has behaved quite well. And Bumba, the link works fine for me.
Sari, I’ll never tell…
Took a nice long, hot bath this afternoon which made me sleeply so nappage followed. Have eaten a Big Bowl O’Sallit for dinner and the evening will be spent internettin’. Need to get Milk and Bananas from the store tomorrow and drop off the Water bill, supposed to be an 80% chance of rain so looks like I don’t have to water my yard yet.
Evening! I [del]poured lava and boiling acid[/del] bathed Gordie today. Then did laundry. Then went out and got pet food. So I took a nap. I dreamed the cops were patrolling my building, to keep me in during curfew. There was also a pet tiger.:dubious:
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I foresee some quality cee-mint pond time today. No big plans for the day, which is fine by me. We shall sup upon fried chikin livers (a gnawin’ and a cravin’ has befallen both of us), smashed N.O.T 'n gravy, and flytrap’s favorite succotash.
MOOOOOOM hope FCD made it through the night OK and yay on gettin’ the staples removed.
BooFae yay for washer decidin’ to work.
Red hope the puter woes are fixed.
Bumba the last time I installed a new ink cartridge I ended up havin’ to reinstall printer drivers. Mine is a HP. I think the problem is most of these home type printers are just POS’s.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
On top of everything else last night, the circuit with the fridge, dishwasher, and a couple of plugs downstairs went kerflooey in the middle of a dishwasher cycle. The fridge is close enough that it’s now plugged into another socket, but so far, I haven’t found the problem. I assume it’s a GFTI outlet, but I can’t find one. More search later. Meanwhile, I need to finish the dishes by hand, dammit.
I’ve also got some peonies and an astilbe to get in the ground today. The iris will have to wait a bit so I can move some lilies to make space, and I don’t know if I’m up to all that today. It’s supposed to be a hot one.
**FCD **slept some last night, but apparently he woke at least once in the wee hours. He’s out taking a walk right now. I’ll let him deal with the Dr office this morning.
I have a feeling it’s gonna be one of *those *days.
This circuit has functioned fine for the last 15 years - why all of a sudden is it a problem? I tend to suspect the dishwasher - I’ve been expecting it to die for a bit. In any event, we’re going to wring out the circuit and try to find the problem. At least I was able to plug in the fridge.
And power is back - the GFTI in my studio needed to be reset and now it’s all good. I thought for sure I reset it last night, but obviously not. The dishwasher is finishing its cycle and I’m going to play in the dirt for a bit till it’s time to call the Dr.
FCM, perhaps a silly question, but what is a GFTI? All Google comes up with is Government Funded Technical Institutes, and I doubt you have one of those in your studio… And with everything else in 2020, of course the circuit would malfunction now; it’s kismet.
doggio, Gordie sent you bad dreams for bathing him…
Woke about 6am again and put on an airline sleep mask I’ve had for years, it got me to 7:45am, so I should be well (or at least OK) rested. Still predicting Tunder-Boomers for the afternoon, so need to make myself presentable and do my necessary running.
In “life improvement” news … I have air conditioning!
Thank god, too.
Guess who has a fever that won’t quit, and has to get the CoronaCootie test before being allowed back to work?
There are 2 versions, and I don’t know if I get the “here, stuff this swab in your nose” test, or if they’re gonna grab me by the head and shove it in themselves. The fear of the latter has me sweating worse than whatever took over my body the last day or two - nothing respiratory, but some “fun” G.I. stuff, and mostly a complete and utter lack of interest in food for days that’s left me feeling just absolutely peaches, lemme tell ya.
But at least there’s a Blow-Cold Box successfully installed. It’s been muggy, and I wonder how much that’s contributed.
So I get my nose poked in less than two hours (Aaaaaa!!!) then a couple days to get results before I am allowed back at Job I Like.
Last final little bit of the degree done, dusted and out of the way. I definitely feel like I should be going to the pub tonight, but alas… I need to go get milk and bread, which I shall do shortly. I may get something nice to celebrate as well.
**MetalMouse **- typo - GFCI - Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. It’s an outlet with a built-in circuit breaker, usually installed around sinks for safety. And it turns out, the one by the sink in my studio was faulty - it kept tripping and wouldn’t reset. I’ve temporarily replaced it with a regular outlet, and I’ll get a GFCI next time I’m near a hardware store.
All that electronics training back in '73 has paid off again!
Lunch time.
Oh yeah, and apparently **FCD **can’t get more pain meds for 10 more days. He’s waiting to hear back from the doctor… again… He’s not in the agony he felt 2 weeks ago, but he’s still hurting. Time for some tylenol… yeah…
The lift is in, although some refinement is needed. It’s mostly small/cosmetic, though- like there’s a vent in front of the door that is currently an open hole and needs some sort of cover because my wheel gets stuck in it and there’s no doorknob/lock, so the only way to lock the house is the porch door, which only locks/unlocks from the inside, so it’s a pain. Realistically, there’s not a whole ton of reason to assume someone would come rob the house while we’re away (especially given how seldom I’m away and the fact that my car stays in the driveway), but… I’d still rather be able to lock it easily.
PT was yesterday. I’m regretting being alive today. Mercifully, though, I slept through a fair bit of yesterday and about half the night.
I remember when I started riding my bike to work after having let myself get pretty out of shape. I struggled with the hills, had to walk my bike up one particularly big one, and thought, “remember this because in a few weeks, these hills will be a breeze.” They were and every time I rode up one, I would think of how far I’d come. I keep thinking of that now, although this is a whole lot less straightforward than just being out of shape and it’s hard to say how much these strengthening exercises will help. But in fantasy world, maybe this is my painful grind up the hill and I can look forward in a couple months to triumphant 10k runs with yoga class as a reward and day-long hikes where the dog gets tired way before I do and I end up carrying her on the way back. Also, I’m considering sprouting wings sometime early next week and I’d really better start planning for my upcoming lottery win.
FCM, thanks for the explanation, I have them too, so far no failures.
Dot, kudos for the PT/exercise. I really do need to get out and do some, usually I’m coaching soccer 4-5 days a week and refereeing every Saturday, but nothing this year so far and it’s showing. Thinking about getting a bike, if they make them comfortable enough for 280lb guys with big rear ends…
Nut, wish we could all be there to celebrate with you. Here’s a virtual “WELL DONE!!” from me.
purp, hope the test was not to bad, at least the AC is helping. (hugs in a socially distant way…)
Shopping is done, water bill is paid and I need to go open up and empty the dishwasher here in a bit. The 80% chance of rain is down to 40% now, so I may have to deploy the lawn sprinklers, which will lead to rain within 24 hours guaranteed.
FairyChatMom, forgive me for mentioning the obvious, but have you tried hot packs/cold packs for FCD’s pain?
When my various body parts have pain tantrums, I head for the heat. I use heating pads, both electric and microwave, and if I am “out and about,” I absolutely love ThermaCare disposable heating pads.
I now have an Rx for Lidocaine patches. Those are a gift from the gods!
Other family members swear by cold packs for pain relief. Just be sure to wrap them in a towel so FCD
doesn’t get frost bite!
~VOW
Could you expand on this? I’m having a hard time visualizing…
**VOW **- I have suggested both heat and cold, and both have been rejected repeatedly. Have I ever mentioned that **FCD **is ever so slightly stubborn??
In any event, the prescription for Oxy came thru, tho in half the dose he had been taking, which is OK. He does need to wean himself off - here’s hoping this is the last batch he needs.
Just back from Food Lion (and picking up his meds.) I scored a nice-looking watermelon and some really nice cukes for yet another salad. Part of the store remodel includes 4 self-checkout stations. I like 'em. Now I need to remember to take my own bags.
And that’s all for now. Except that it’s freekin’ hot out there!
The new Roku arrived yesterday and what an improvement! My old one was about 10 years old and seemed to be losing its mind. The new one has a better interface with services like Hulu and Netflix, and a better, clearer picture.
Tomorrow I have a Zoom doctor’s appointment so he can keep up with his yacht payments. Routine periodic wellness check is all.
