It's kitten season and we need names

Ah, kitten season. It’s in full swing now. We have two ready-to-pop mamas on top of the daily influx of kittens born under trailers, kittens found in garages, kittens living in workshops, mamas that can’t stay in their homes because “she just keeps getting pregnant”… bottle feeders, nurslings, fat spoiled foster babies… the works.

So what we need… is names. The great thing about kittens is that you can give them ANY name. The more ridiculous the better. Because they’re going to have that name for a few weeks and then it’s going to be changed to something boring like Daisy or Smokey or Bella. It isn’t like adults who may have to live with Spongebob or Princess Consuela Banana Hammock or Catnip Carl for years. With kittens, off-the-wall is a plus.

With kittens, we do themes. Because they’re around such a short time and there are so many of them, it helps a lot with remembering who they were down the road if we ever need to. If there’s a mama, the babies’ names usually relate to her name in some way. Like Arizona had Tucson, Yuma, Flagstaff, Sedona, and Phoenix. Lily had Calla, Easter, and Stargazer. Feather had Sparrow, Osprey, Goose, and Robin. You get the idea.

So… any ideas? Themes? Individual names? Something you’ve always wanted to use or would use if you got a cat who looked a certain way? Trust me- we’ll get one that looks like that eventually. We get groups of all sizes and makeups, so pair names are appreciated as well (although for goodness sake, please no Bonnie and Clyde, Laverne and Shirley, or Thelma and Louise. It’s been done so many times).

If your names get chosen, I’ll PM you pictures of the cat/litter  Right now, if you need inspiration, we have one specific one who is in need of a name- a hugely pregnant dark tabby. We don’t know how many kittens she’ll have (about 48 by the looks of her), but we’ll definitely know soon.

How about naming a litter after Batman’s famous Rogues Gallery? Joker, Riddler, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Bane? (I think Catwoman would be a little too on the nose.)

From the Bible: Faith, Hope, and Charity. (We adopted Hope, never changed her name, and she is still with me today.)

From “cities that host NFL teams,” (yes, that was a naming convention for one farmer friend’s litter), we adopted San Francisco and Denver.

I remember a high school friend whose cat gave birth to three kittens. One was an orange tabby, one was a mackerel tabby, and one was (through some stroke of genetics) all white. They were named, “Champagne,” “Whisky,” and “Gin,” respectively.

Astrophe
Atonic
Aclysmic

I am adopting two kittens from a coworker’s cat’s third litter.
My current three year old cat is from that cat’s second litter.
I made a joke at work about how since these are two little siblings coming to live with a big sister, I should name them Buffy and Jodie after Family Affair.

Now I can’t get the two names out of my head, so I guess Buffy and Jodie it is.

Dammit! And I didn’t even like that show! And clueless Millennials are gonna think I named Buffy after the Vampire Slayer.

PS: Yes, I’ve already strongly suggested to my coworker to have the Momcat fixed, and she agrees she should. Maybe after this batch is settled, I hope.

Well, why not Buffy the Slayer- Buffy, Willow, Xander, Angel, Spike…
