**Taters **- it’s funny, but even their mutual friends seemed to see it coming. I was pretty sure it’d happen, and I’m glad it was sooner than later. No one deserves to be married to someone like soon-to-be-ex-SIL…
I didn’t mention - she’s asked me to tell my family. How can I restrain my excitement…
Maybe it was all the build-up, but the TMI was anticlimactic.
That’s quite the news, Mooooooom. Can’t say it’s a huge surprise, from what you’ve said about them over the past couple of years, and I’m sure it’s a huge relief as far as you and FCD are concerned. Hope they can manage a quick, clean break with minimal drama.
BTW, your soon-to-be-ex-SIL sounds almost exactly like my future BIL. I wish I could copy your post and send it to my sister, so that she can get a glimpse of what her future looks like.
Sadly, with a baby on the way, it’ll be impossible for him to ever be completely out of her life… I’m clinging to the hope that maybe, just maybe, the kid will be the kick in the pants he needs to go out and get himself a Big Boy Job that pays more than $8/hr, instead of sitting around moaning about the crap economy and relying on my sister’s salary to pay the bills (which, might I add, include his massive student debts).
MOOOOOOM sorry about the divorce but like Taters said we saw it coming. Still it’s a kinda sad thing when marriage doesn’t work out. Now maybe she can go out and find herself an adult male.
Nava HEE! Psychomoronic test. HEE! Made da bear giggle.
Enjoy the TMI Muppet!
OOH! I shall have a saltwater pool by the end of the day. I can’t believe I fogot to mention this earlier. Pool guy and his son have been workin’ on it since around nineish this mornin’. When I got back home, they were here and workin’ away. I was convinced they’d have to drain the whole pool but pool guy said only about a quarter of the water needs to be drained to put in the new pipes. Eventually, the pool will be all salt water and it’s okay that there’s already chlorinated water because one of the things the salt does is make its own chlorine as I understand it. What I do understand is app twenty-eight dollars worth of salt and bakin’ soda a year vs around three hunnert dollars in chemicals a year.
I made turkey sallit out of the rest of the turkey breast. OYKW does not like it but I do so it’ll be lunch food for me for the next three days. This means I need to figure out dindin which I have. Country fried steak, dirty rice and steamed carrots.
what was the name for “trial marriages”? I can’t remember it… but still, sometimes I think they should be reintroduced formally. That way people can still get the wedding and do that thing whereby they try to solve their problems by throwing pomp at them, but the divorce would be a lot easier.
ETA: Oh yeah, handfastings! This proves you don’t need to be Klondike Geoff’s age to get things stuck on the tip of your tongue.
Add me to the list of those who saw it coming. Still, I’m sorry it didn’t work out. But, yeah, having to raise a child instead of partnering with a husband could get old.
I giggled at the psychomoronic test as well.
Are you sure you don’t want to be my live-in cook, swampy? I couldn’t pay you much, but I could give you free room and board.
Saltwater pool sounds intriguing.
I’ve dropped off something for a sale this weekend and picked up some plants from a friend (shocking, I know). Need to get out there to mow and do some digging.
Yeah, I, too, am not surprised to hear of the impending divorce, FCM. Glad your daughter seems more like herself now.
Glad things have improved, Soapy.
Muppet! I’ve been meaning to tell you - try replacing 2 Tbsp of the oil in the granola recipe (either of them… I just use canola oil instead of the fancy ones) with tahini. It’s teh YUM!
I liked the embarrasauraus on the LOLDogs.
Has anyone seen Shadow lately?
Busy here today. Good, but busy. Probably would be better if KT’s in-shower shaving mirror hadn’t fallen down at 1 this morning while I was sound asleep, scaring the crap out of me and leaving me awake with an abundance of adrenalin. And there are supposed to be loud thunderboomers tonight so it’ll be another night of not-so-great sleep. Yippee.
Dindin is et. Turned out good, of course. Steak, sallit and baked N.O.T. on tap for tomorrow. I also made out some burgers for Sattidy. Sunday is brunch Sunday at church. Ima make a pasta sallit cause I’m in the mood for some.
Soon to be ex-SIL must pack so I’m sure your daughter will be ok with that MOOOOOOM. It’s one of those things that must be done to get him out of her life.
He’s gone. She’s gone out to have coffee with friends. He’ll be back tomorrow to get the last few things and return my van. Then he’ll be gone completely.
I’ll give him props for not being nasty or vindictive or vengeful. Mainly, he’s really hurt - he honestly didn’t see it coming. On one level, I do feel sorry for him - he truly is a nice, if quirky, person. On the other hand, he just accepted what she said, never asked her to go to counseling or anything. He’s going home to Mom. That says volumes, IMHO.
In happier news, Scruffy sure was happy to see me come home. In fact, she refuses to let me out of her sight! Apparently the entire time I was gone, she spent many hours staring at the door, willing me to return, I guess. Poor idiot doggy.
And now for the :smack: news. As daughter was getting ready for work this morning, she told me the microwave was off. I went downstairs, reset the breaker, and it was fine. Then I walked into the living room and caught a whiff of something burnt. I wasn’t sure if it was inside or outside, since the windows were slightly open. But some cunning investigative work uncovered the source. The water level in the aquarium sump had gotten below the level of the heater. So the heater heated itself to breaking, at which point, some water got in and shorted it out. It not only blew the breaker, but a fuse in the controller.
No luck finding a replacement fuse, but we bought a new heater this morning. The water level is back where it needs to be, the new heater and an auxiliary heater are in there bringing the tank back up from 72° to 78°. Once it’s at temp, the aux heater comes out, and we’ll set the other to maintain, until we get a replacement fuse and get the controller back on line. Very exciting morning.
bAWWWWWWWWW… Scruffy missed her MOOOOOOMY! How sweet!
I’m guessin’ the salt water conversion will not happen today. They’re still out there but it’s almost 6:45 pm. It’s no biggie if’n they don’t finish. I kinda want to go out and say it’s ok to come back tomorrow and finish. Or maybe they’re almost finished. I shall assume they know a lot more about that than lil’ ol’ me.
Wow… I’ve been laying low and lots has been happening. Firstly, BooFae and 'ImIndoors are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that Dotty is having a good time on vacay, and it’s good to see SpecialOne again. And welcome back, FCM! Sorry about D & SIL, but as you say, most of you all saw it coming a long time ago. Glad to hear that Daughter is looking happy again, though.
All I can think of adding here, at this point, is TG tomorrow is FIRDAY!!!
Saltwater conversion is complete! Well, the system is in. Technically it will be approximately 48 hrs before complete salinization (I think that’s the word) is complete. A big bag o’ salt got dumped in the pool and the pump is running. The control panel is all kinds of fancy-schmansy and fairly easy to operate. Of course that will remain to be seen. It boils down to backwash only once a week and check the chlorine (salt makes its own chlorine remember)/salt level at least once a month, every two weeks being even better. Ok, as opposed to on a daily basis as I had been used to doin’ that’s a breeze!
Pool guy even said my skin should be soft after bein’ in the pool. It’s a swimmin’ pool and a moisturizer in one!
Tahini in granola sounds yummy, taxi. How did you know granola-making was in my plans for this weekend?
Hi tarra! I was wondering where you’d been.
Mowed all of the front (including next door neighbor’s), did a bit of weeding, and then went for a walk. Now I’m all de-pollenated and considering what to do with my evening. I’m planning to finish my book, maybe watch a movie, and then get up early to do a bunch of stuff here at home.
Then, if help is needed, I’ll go help with setting up for the plant sale at the park where I volunteer. Also, I’m going to do a bit of gardening at church.
Ooooh… thanks for the tahini tip,** taxi**. I shall give it a whirl once our current batch is finished (which should be soon-ish, at the rate The Boy consumes it)
I’m a dumb-dumb. Awesome Boss gave me a gift certificate for a super-expensive fancy shmancy restaurant to thank me for all the work I put in over the last month (basically, one of my coworkers can’t write worth a damn and is totally in over his head when it comes to the job, so yours truly had to rewrite all his stuff). So, The Boy and I decided we’d go tonight, made a reservation, got all dressed up… and then left the certificate sitting on the kitchen counter when we left the house this morning.
Better luck next time, I suppose. On the bright side, we had some lovely Vietnamese food instead.
