Brava, sari!! It’s a good thing I don’t pick up unidentified calls because I couldn’t pull that off as well as you do!
Higgs has been sleeping in these last few days, but I’m so accustomed to her waking at 5, I wake at 5! So I get up and make her get up.
Poor critter had to pee and poo in the only available leaves - right up against the house under the eaves. It’s still too dark to determine how much snow we got, but there’s a thick cover of it on the shed roof, and on the back deck there are 2 planters that seem to have 6" caps of snow. And, of course, it’s still coming down, dammit. According to weather radar, it’s already left our area, but I guess these snowflakes don’t understand radar. I expect it’ll stop soon.
I shall dress for shoveling today, and I’ll do a little at a time. I hope **FCD **doesn’t try to help - he’s having enough problems with his back and his knee. Tho from the look of it, this is really lightweight snow and I may be able to do more pushing than lifting and flinging. I need to clear as much as I can. We’ve got 3 days of sun (with stoopit cold) ahead of us, but Sunday is forecast to be near 50 with rain! I’m just hoping to avoid ice on the driveway, especially on the initial slope.
Have I mentioned that I hate winter? Because I do. I truly do. Stoopit winter. Stoopit snow. Stoopit cold.
Haha Sari that was a funny phone call. It reminds me of something my grandmother did on the phone once. Someone had called Granny and asked if she needed ducts to be cleaned. Granny replied that she lived on a lake and there were ducks there, but that they already seemed pretty clean. The caller said that Granny had made her day.
Well, I’m about to layer on the garments and head out for round 1 of shoveling.
This sucks.
At least the previous owners of this place left behind some really nice gloves - they look to be snowmobiling gloves. That’ll help. My gloves aren’t very warm.
Yep, ‘tis an irkday after a holiday alright. First thing this mornin’ I get a call from a host agency to tell me that a participant there has been caught stealin’ and has been asked to leave. Sigh. Needless to say he’s on leave of absence pendin’ investigation and possible exit for cause. This takes at least 30 days however.
MOOOOOOM ick! Be careful out there! :: Polishes “No Snow” signs and point them north::
Emily, I watched a video of a snow plow/blower/tractor trailer clearing snow in Toronto. It’s a neatly coordinated operation.
Day #2 of the ice storm. We didn’t get the amount of snow predicted, but a little and more ice. This is the second morning that I’ve chiseled the truck out and not made it to work. I actually got stuck about 3/4 mile from home and had to call a neighbor with a big Dodge duelly and a winch (thanks Todd!). Tennessee is in a state of weather emergency now.
Last blizzard we had I cleared the garage so I could get the car out and went inside for a quick coffee before actually getting the car out. Big mistake. The city plow came through our alley and blasted another 2 feet of snow against the garage door. I said several bad words about the drivers parentage, his wife’s parentage and his pets parentage.
I’m out of frozen food-in-a-box here at work and remembered at the last second to grab one out of the freezer at home before heading out this morning. Got here to discover 1.) I’m not out after all, but 2.) the other one is the exact same kind as the one I brought today. :smack:
Had to have myself a good cry yesterday evening and today my eyelids are all swollen. Bleah. Also, the stuff I ordered from Amazon is taking the first half of forever to get here. Turns out when you order cheap stuff from China, it has to -gasp- get shipped here from China, and apparently that takes a fair bit of time. Crazy!
Stay warm & safe today, everybody! It’s still in the 30s here in DFW and not likely to get much warmer today.
On my resume I have a couple of initials after my name from a professional certification - if I was a doctor they would be M.D.
I just got an (obviously unsolicited, but legitimate) email:
Dear MD,
Here are some jobs we have that you might be interested in…
The closest one is almost two hours each way. One is between 12 & 13 hours each way. Lessee, assuming no traffic, & I speed a bit, & I don’t need to stop for gas, & I don’t sleep, I might be able to make it there for one minute / 24 hrs.
Yeah, it really makes me think highly of your recruiting firm & what to do buisness with you when you can’t address me by name or send me anything that is geographically proximate. :smack:
**Spidey **- I get crap like that all the time. I especially like the ones offering me executive positions in insurance and finance. Because, you know, a resume full of engineering experience just screams PERFECT MATCH for careers in finance…
The driveway is done. Despite my protests, **FCD **helped, and we finished it in about an hour. So we’re about to go out and get something for lunch. Whew.
MOOOOOOM yay for cleared driveway! Yay for goin’ out to N.O.L. It does not take much to excitate me.
I have to go to da cave before I go over to the church house after irk. Seems this mornin’ Deacon Joy and YP were at the local hospice house where she volunteers a good amount of time for the dedication of sump’n or other and she was wearin’ two different color shoes. Now we just CAN’T let that just slide by can we? So I have to go to da cave to change into two different color shoes. YP has gotten the word out to others he knows will be there so I know this will be good.
Tired of snow, tired of inside, tired of winter. Need sunshine. Feeling cabin fever, ready to yell “HEEEEERRREEEEE’S Johnny!” whilst wielding an axe. And I live by myself!
It’s cold, but not as cold as yesterday.
Sah-son shoveled the sidewalks and as soon as he finished it started snowing again. Fortunately the snow stopped and the sun is shining and everything has melted.
I don’t know what is up with my neighbor, I haven’t seen or heard her for a while.
I called my realtor to call her niece’s realtor to let her know about the broken window. Of course none of it is my business but I’d think they’d want to know about it.
'm glad y’all got a kick out of my fun with the scammer.
I just got off the phone with my mortgage company, I sat on hold for 50 minutes! Just for one simple question but I have tried to reach them multiple times and always got tired of waiting. Today decided to stick it out and get it done.
Now I have to call the title company and ATT. Joy and Happiness!
Nice thing about fog, even if it is so thick I can’t see the house across the street is that it doesn’t need to be shoveled.
Broke down and bought ourselves a “good” grill last night. In my barbecuing past lies a trail of cheapie-deepie grills that last two seasons if gently cared for. The funny thing is the maker may be targeting the Rennie market as the name of this grill is the “Baron.” Now to clear the calendar on Saturday to put the thing together.
No snow in no. Illinois, but cold as a witch’s tit in a brass brassiere. The high predicted for tomorrow is ZERO. That does not include wind chill. I really don’t care. I have a long down coat and scarves and a host of hats/head bands and glubs. And warm boots.
And I have a pressure bandage in the middle of my forehead. The derm did a punch biopsy and there are 2 teenytiny stitches but I can’t see them til tonight when I take the B.A. bandage off.
The neighbor with the duelly gave me a lift (1 mile) to :eek:WallyWorld:eek: to buy a printer to replace the one that just crapped out. Now I can finish addressing the thank you cards.
