IT'S! . . . monty python's monday mundane posts [MMP]

Up, caffeinated, off to irk. My “just friend” got a Canes win and granddaughter #3 for her birthday yesterday.

gigi, Glad you’re OK.

Not only Rosie’s tag, but Rosie’s post, too.

Ugh, after 11 years it’s my last day at work here and have the ‘goodbye’ lunch, cake n ice cream party, drop ins, etc. Gonna be kinda sad but tomorrow at 8 is the first meeting with the director at my new place. Gonna be a whirlwind for the next several days.

What did Ferris say, something about how sometimes life comes at you pretty fast? tightens chinstrap

Good luck, Loo!

Great. It’s shaping up to be “pin the blame on Tugig” at work. Already got a call in to the union. Gah.

I’ve been at irk for less than 2 hours and I’m already pissed off at everyone. Just on general purposes. And because people walk down the middle of the hallway, or on the wrong side, and don’t understand that you pass left shoulder to left shoulder. Do you drive on the left-hand side of the road? No. Then don’t walk on the left-hand side of the hall. GTF out of my way. Plus it’s sunny and I don’t like sun. I have summer affective disorder. Tis true. A small population of us get depressed, irritated, moody and crabby when it’s sunny.

I should close the blinds.

**peedin **- you need to come to my house - it’s pouring rain and has been for a few hours…

I’m finishing the leftover pot pie before starting the stew. FedEx truck just pulled up, so something is being delivered Wonder if he’ll ring or just drop it and run? UPS rings… and apparently FedEx knocks. Charcoal filters for the aquarium have been delivered.

Guess that’s the big excitement of my day.

MOOOOOOM if you answer the door in a slinky nightgown when the FedEx or UPS delivery persons show up you might get better service. Just sayin’. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck on the new gig loo! Mine’s been a blast so far.

Speakin’ of which, howdy from irk just cause I can. I needed a couple minutes break so I thought I’d catch up on the goin’s on.

Now, alas, irk beckons!

Laterz!

First off, I don’t own a nightgown, slinky or otherwise - today I’m wearing green sweats since I have no reason to go anywhere. Second, doesn’t matter how I open the door - the guy was already in his truck by the time I got there - we live in a neighborhood where they just leave stuff on the porch. Third, get real, dude - you’ve seen me - even if I did have a slinky nightgown, it would be the thing of nightmares!

Incidentally, what’s become of kopek? Did he tell us he’d be away for a while?

He’s probably the guy from Pennsylvania that got in trouble for dressing as the Zombie Mohammed.

Good (checks time) Morning. Wow. Ya’ll lead such exciting lives. Fires, new jobs, surgeries. Luck to all who needs it (& a few who don’t) My big excitement today is house chores and maybe the store. woohoo.

Crap. I think I’m coming down with the flu. (body aches, hot then cold, phlegmy cough, headache coming on)

I got my flu shot back in September because of the whole subbing/tutoring/elderly father thing. That means this should be a mild flu. Which I suppose it is, compared to the last bout of flu I had seven years ago.

I still feel like crap. I still have way too much to get done to be sick. Crap.

Today has been…interesting.
Chem discussion went stupendously well. I think I may have just passed my first quiz. Lab went nearly as well except that between parts A and B of the lab I got an attack of anal retentiveness and I cleaned my bench. Unfortunately I accidentally dumped out my entire supply of the NaOH I had just standardized. Luckily I was able to use a classmate’s extra, using her results from part A. Had a nice chat with my TA and let him know what’s going on with me and why my homework has been a bit incomplete lately (I’m at the mercy of my central nervous system).
Once all that was done I went to the infirmary to have my followup blood pressure. Last time it was unusually low for me (104/80-something). Today it was unusually high for me (126/90-something). The nurse took it twice because I was shocked at how high it was. We also had a nice chat about dogs.

Then I went to the registrar’s office to turn in my drop form and found out that I need my adviser and dean to sign off on it because I’m dropping 2 classes. Of course the dean’s office is all the way on the other side of the campus and it’s snowing and it’s a really wet snow and apparently my shoes are sponges.

So I get to the building where the dean is supposed to be only to find out that they’re temporarily 3 buildings away. While I was talking to the nice lady who gave me directions, an adorable rat terrier/beagle came prancing around the corner, right up to me and flopped down on his back so I could scritch his belly. Seriously, that little dog totally made my day. He was so damn cute and friendly. (one of the really nice things about an agricultural school with a dog for a mascot is that it’s very dog friendly)

Anyway, I got the approval from my dean and started to drive home. Shortly after leaving school I hit a very slippery patch, swerved all over the road (both north and south lanes), hit a curb and finally came to a stop. I managed to not hit a single other car and I hit the curb with the very big tire and it was totally unfazed by it. After that I put the 4WD on and drove 10-15 under the speed limit, turning my 45 minute drive into an hour and 45 minute drive.

But you know what? It’ll all ok because I walked through the door to see 3 goofy dogs grinning at me, one bouncing up and down, tails wagging like crazy.

Afternoon, mumpers! I have a bit of spare time so I thought I"d check in with you from the free 'net thingie in our hotel’s foyer. So far we are having a great trip, we went to see Van Halen last night and (apart from a few strange audience issues) it was an awesome night out!

Yesterday afternoon we spent several hours at the American Museum of Natural History, some of it looking at dinosaurs. Have I ever told you about my theory? All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle, and the thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, and it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too. Oh, and my name is really Miss Ann Elk.

Today we went to Harlem for lunch at Sylvia’s soul food restaurant and, once again, I"m stuffed. Salmon croquettes, garlic mashed potato and string beans. I"m full, we are back at the hotel because it’s bucketing down outside and has scuppered our walking around plans. Time for a rethink over cocktails, I reckon.

Rosie’s sig to all - I will catch up with you all again later!

Howdy Y’all! Home from irk but not through with irk. Doin’ some stuff from da cave and waitin’ on OYKW cause in a little while we’re goin’ to the church house for Lenten soup 'n sammich and Evening Prayer. I think I’m signed up for sammiches in two weeks. I should check on that.

BooFae funny thing, no stories about the breakup of Van Halen or the riot caused on stage. Are you keepin’ it all hush hush?

MOOOOOOM what do I know. Remember I’m gay so I have no idea what turns straight men on. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, back to some irk stuff.

Swampy, we thought it best to keep things under wraps until the end of the tour lest half the audience suddenly decide there’s no point turning up…

Oh, yeah, swampy, I forgot you’re gay.
:stuck_out_tongue:
UPS sucks. They delivered a box today and left it at the far end of the porch, not bothering to ring or knock. FedEx delivered and at least knocked. So when I got the email telling me my UPS box had been delivered, I was way confused. Then I looked out the window nearest the driveway and saw the box. Meanwhile, I’d emailed the company asking WTH was going on… grrrr. At least we got our stuff, so there’s that. Stuff for the aquarium - no fun stuff, alas.

**FCD **is home. Stew is done and it smells good, naturally. Can’t wait for supper!

**tugig **- when they rewire that truck, perhaps this time they can add some fuses? A couple of years ago, one of the members of a local volunteer fire department found themselves the subject of a similar fire call. Like many VFD people around here, they had strobes and siren installed on their personal vehicle, but one day, the wiring got crimped and what would have been a really annoying vehicle fire in a paraking lot became a house fire as their truck was parked in their garage at the time.

Moving has been relatively non-dramatic. One drawback to having friends help you move is that they’re probably not professional movers. Nothing got actually broken, but a couple of items have new dings or scuff marks.

U-verse still slightly mystifies me - a smallish box with a lot of bright green blinkenlights lashes together the incoming phone line with an incoming coax cable, and shoots out two VOIP phone lines, several LAN ports and TV to the rest of the house. Two of the “cable” boxes are wireless. I’m surprised the air is still transparent in the house with so many digital bits whizzing around.

Awwwwww - just heard the news that Monkee Davy Jones died. He was only 66. :frowning:

On a happier note, the stew was yum! I’m off to knit the night away. Catch ya tomorrow!

I know, right? I loved The Monkees when I was in grade school. :frowning: Marketplace has been playing instrumental snatches of Monkees tunes between stories tonight. Didn’t catch whether they mentioned anything early in the show.

Long day. Lots done. Lots left to do.

Off to walk for a while. Back later with more…

Hugs.
