It's November 5th and I'd like to talk about something besides politics

I went to Sears today to pick up my husband’s birthday present. They were playing Christmas music.

Make it stop!!!

Oh, YEAH!! I went shopping on Nov. 1st and there was Christmas music playing! I couldn’t believe it. It was really bad Christmas music too.

I’ve got cornbread in the oven and we’re having soup with it for dinner. Yum. My kids are watching The Court Jester in the other room and Danny Kaye is singing “I’m Giacomo, Giacomo, my name before me rings…King of jesters and jester of kings!”

I was at the local fast-casual restaurant for lunch on Monday, and their music system was playing a nonstandard arrangement of “Deck the Halls.” I hate hate HATE Christmas music out of season.

Remember remember the fifth of November…

Would speaking of Guy Fawkes be too political?

I’m thinking about masturbation or going to Wendy’s for a double cheeseburger and a frosty. Hell I may do both at the same time.

I have not been keeping up with things. How goes the job search, twickster?

We got snow, too. It basically snowed all morning and into the afternoon, stopping around 3:30. Most of that was due to lake effect–I love living next to a massive, stinky body of water!

Enh, not so hot. I’m currently doing a PT/temp gig that will run through T’giving. It’s nice to have a little money coming in, at least. Don’t think it will lead to anything permanent with these folks – it’s a daily newspaper, so it’s a bad fit on both sides – though I think they’d rehire if another similar project came up. Have met a couple of good people through it, and expanding one’s network is always good. (PR guy I’ve been interacting with sent me a tip for a site with job listings mostly in PR, but sometimes straight writing/editing.)

It does leave me wide open for lunches and such, though – olives, check your PMs.

Plus all anal probes are merely metaphorical – best wishes to ryobserver on your colonoscopy.

Hey Bibs, I’m precepting for my -I class. Six hours tonight inna ICU sticking people and doing assessments.

While I’m actively working on FF1, I seem to be accumulating RT credits faster, and at the same time, when I’m not pursuing that cert.

ETA: Twicks: long time, no goose.

It was 5th November and that meant the pub and fireworlks! Gunpowder, treason and plot!

Had a very pleasant evening with friends, drinking beer and watching pretty fireworks up in the sky, and talking with 'im indoors about plans for our January holiday.

Mutual, I’m sure.

Thanks, twicks, and best wishes on your job search. My company just froze hiring until further notice, but if I hear of anything I’ll let you know.

If you and/or olivesmarch4th want to get together, drop me a line. olivesmarch4th, I’ve only been to Bryn Mawr once, and my Rutgers degree is from the Camden campus (and old enough to vote anyway). But I worked at U of P for 12 years and still live in the neighborhood; if my local knowledge can help, pick my brain. And best of luck on your health issues.

And now for what’s been on my mind: my colonoscopy was the basic cancer-screening type, but I have to start young because my father died of colon cancer at 54. The anticipation was the worst part; I had no idea what they might find, I’ve never had sedation before, and the prep procedure robbed me of sleep and energy, so I arrived in a less than sparkling mental state. As it turned out, the drugs didn’t actually put me under, but did make me not really care. I remember the procedure (vaguely, the way you remember a dream), and when it was over I asked the staff if the green stuff I’d seen on the monitor was the Jello I ate yesterday (it was). And the findings, praise Og, were a big fat nothing. No masses, no polyps, no hemorrhoids, no diverticular disease, everything normal. They gave me a printed report with all the details and several color pictures. Afterward I felt well enough to go to Marathon Grill with the friend who was escorting me home; I had an omelet with smoked salmon and asparagus, then went home and had a nice pot of tea. And I don’t have to do it again for five years.

I am thinking about the huge mess my son and I are making by putting together a spooky gingerbread house I got onsale for $2.50. He can’t stay out of the frosting and is looking like a five year old Gothchild.

At least it’s something, and there’s a chance for more work. Good luck for something more to your liking and more permanent!

I’ve been trying to get into an IV-Tech class, but the timing is never right. Maybe after the first of the year. Good luck to you, too!

I think that’s what twickster was referring to. :stuck_out_tongue:
