Not that I am desperate to see this video, but I’d like to see what all the fuss is about, and no way am I going to watch any MTV in hopes of seeing the video.

I live right nextdoor to Christina’s hometown. I’m in Allison Park-she’s from Wexford. Yuck yuck yuck.
It isn’t really worth watching. It isn’t even that dirty. I mean I’d heard about it and I expected it to just be a video of her getting gang banged or something to warrant the comotion. As it stands it is just mildly off putting how skanky she looks in it. While I’m not a fan of skank there are some who wear it well, Eliza Desku for intance. Christina is definitely not one of those who wears it well and she ends up looking just plain unappealing.
She’s covering the same territotu Prince covered 15 years ago. The problem is that Prince did it much better. I don’t have a problem with her “skankiness”, but the song is pretty crappy.
Eh. I thought the video was raunchy but okay, and the song is no big deal – catchy in its way. I don’t care for her music, old or new, but I can admit that she has a strong voice and more raw talent than Britney.
The Rolling Stone article, however, just irritated me. She was snotty to a waitress, made a big deal about how she’s changed, her inner pain, blah blah blah. I always read these articles about apparently vapid pop stars in the hopes that there is some depth or real personality. They never fail to disappoint. Why do I care when I don’t even like the damned music?
Just a question to you all: If it had been a guy, say Justin Timberlake - would your reactions had been as strong?
Or is it just that nice WASP suburban girls aren’t supposed to be that way?
Is it just me and my heterosexual female eyes, or is that a really unattractive picture of Christina Aquavelveeta on the cover of the Rolling Stone? Haven’t these girls ever learned the lesson that to tease and tantalize you can’t put everything out on display like that? They look about as sexy as anatomy book pictures.
I thought the RS cover was pretty hot. And if you think that’s “putting everything on display”, then I think you have a very odd definition of “everything”. I would at least include nipples with “everything”.

Christina Maria Aguilera’s mother is Irish and her father is Ecuadorian. Nothing WASPish about that. I heard she did need a little help with her spanish album. She is American after all.

I found myself oddly entranced by the video … her overwhelming dedication to skank is bewildering and amazing.
Oh for sure. I was basing my coments solely on a feeling I’m getting in the pit of my stomach. ALthough Britney’s Slave video looks relatively similar to Christina’s Dirty video, they have two totally different feelings to them. Slave, I think, has a shock feeling to it (same as Madonna) but Dirty has a “But I can be risque/skanky too!” feeling to it. This just seems like a move that an artist would do when they can feel the end of their career while Britney’s was a move based solely on Market research.
I hope I’m making some sense here.
Aguilera’s real background has nothing to do with it. It’s the image she projects. And since the Mickey Mouse Club, she was a wholesome WASP suburban teen. Now that same person is trying to project a VERY diferent image and I’m thinking this is causing the moral outrage.
And no one (except Tars Tarkas) has answered how they would react, be it a male going the squirming in the mud.
