I’d like to apologize to everyone in Houston who didn’t enjoy the little bits of “snow”. It’s my family’s fault. We bought a new puppy this year. Every year we get a puppy, it snows. It worked out great last time; he was a Husky and thought it was awesome. This year, our Lab was fascinated but didn’t have the Husky snow instinct thing going. So a big sorry to everyone who didn’t enjoy it. It should be a long time before we get another puppy. In the interim any other snow is someone else’s fault.
When I noticed that it was snowing the second person I called was my dad, who’s from Minnesota where it actually snows. I told him it was snowing … for Houston. We talked for a few, then he was driving in the “flurries” so the puppy, and I awaited his arrival. Then I found out my grandmother was home and she called everyone and had a big time with the big puppy outside for a few minutes. Dad was awesome enough to go get us hot chocolate (next time I’m introducing her to Abuelita) to enjoy in our winter wonderland.
Everyone stay warm, cool or whatever makes you happy!
My parents have photos of a little Houston snow from the early '70s, when there was maybe an inch of snow on the ground. I remember the one in 1989 – I slipped on an icy sidewalk walking home from school and briefly knocked myself out. There was a night of flurries in December 1996, the “big one” in 2004, and then last night. It does seem to snow a lot more frequently now. My mother’s family has been in the area since the 1860s, and there aren’t many stories about snow prior to the ones I’ve mentioned. Climate change? El Nino? Either way, it’s fun because it doesn’t pile up higher than the houses for six months. I wonder if it will happen again this winter.
What’s crazy is that both Houston and New Orleans are south of us - and we didn’t get snow! Just sleet. Snowed north of us, and south of us, but not here. Weird.
Yep, really weird. Also, if ya’ll would be so kind, what I meant to post was “it snowed only four years ago” not “it only snowed four years ago.” Arrrrgh.
Meanwhile, we could get several inches in the next couple of days, if they aren’t lying to us again. crossing fingers
UncleRojelio, some people like winter and snow and stuff. I am one of them. We do exist. Enjoy your warm, I will enjoy our cold!
This doesn’t surprise me. I was in Little Rock this morning and it was very cold. The moisture just passed them by. Since it was a strong westerly wind I’m guessing the low pressure system sank farther south than people expected.
