It's something about ordering food online that does not feel right

This reminds me…
I did have to make one follow-up call, but it was because the website glitched and changed my payment method to cash, instead of credit. I filled out an online feedback form, and not only did they fix the website, they sent a gift card. Which reminds me of another advantage of online ordering…

I’ve had two instances where the order was technically correct, but the food was sub-standard* (one was a national pizza chain, the second was a national sandwich chain). I filled out an online comment form each time. In both cases, I was contacted by both a company service rep and the the store general manager within two days. The pizza place gave me three free orders (as long as the orders were less than $20) and the sub shop gave me one free order, and the company sent me a $10 gift card.

*This has nothing to do with the way I placed my order.

Nope. If they forget something like an extra order of sauce, I can ask there if I pickup, or get something else on delivery. Echoing others: why is online less reliable? It beats trying to communicate with a thick accent.

I remember ordering online for delivery and/or pickup from: Round Table, Domino’s, Wing Stop, probably more. No problems. Any special requests are in the comments section. There is also a (local?) business that delivers from business who don’t deliver themselves. It ends up being a little more expensive but no problems.

I’ve ordered pizza online for going on 15 years and it is fucking awesome. I’ve never had a problem. I’ve ordered other types of food online, as well, and have never had a problem.

Don’t reject change, embrace it, You are just suspicious of online ordering because it’s new to you.

Shit, when I order food for pickup or delivery, I only order online.

Tonight, for example, I ordered pizza from Domino’s. Airman and the sprog told me what they wanted on their pizza, and I entered their selections directly on the website. Any problems or questions were resolved before I hit submit. The food arrived within 30 minutes and exactly as we’d ordered it.

The best part is that I don’t have to shout over background noise at a distracted order-taker, and I don’t have to act as go-between if someone has a question. It’s perfect for us anti-social people!

At an old job, there was a good Thai restaurant directly across the street. I sometimes got take-out from there if I had a lunchtime meeting. I ordered online, which was great. They tracked my regular orders and it was just a few clicks to get everything right.

One day I got there, and my food wasn’t ready. They told me their fax machine had a problem and they couldn’t get the online orders!

Our local Chinese joint has a similar system, and I know this is also how Chipotle gets orders through their app. You enter your order online or through the app, the order is converted to a fax, and if their fax machine is down, your online order isn’t ready on time because they don’t know about it. It’s a royal PITA if you’re ordering a LOT of food or you need it at a certain time.

I can see something like this happening to me

And you could also get hit by a bus crossing the street.

Nope because I am old enough to know how to cross a street

You could also get stuck by a dirty needle by a malicious stranger on the street and get The AIDS!
ETA: OOPS! Wrong nutjob. Carry on.

Yeah, you’re kind of missing the point.

Just because something has a very slim chance of going wrong, that doesn’t mean you should avoid it.

Especially given how often restaurants screw up orders using any other system!

But at one time you didn’t. But you threw caution to the wind, trusted and crossed that street!

Throw caution to the wind and order some pizza! Give it a try. I bet you’ll be happily surprised.

Money is serious to me and I try to avoid “unnecessary aggravation” if I can which means I would want my food to be on time and accurate

Get me?

Not really, no. All transactions with a food vendor carries a risk of problems with timeliness of errors. There’s no reason to think that the risk of “aggravation” is increased for online ordering.

Online retail transactions have been routine since the 1990s. This is not a rational fear.

I don’t know what you mean about money being serious to you. Your money is in the same position it is whether you’re ordering on a website or on the phone.

True but u are told by a human…“we will be there in 30 mins” So now I will try to get used to this new thing

Humans are playing the same role in fulfilling your order either way.

Aren’t you the one that was complaining about how incredibly difficult it is to have to go through a drive-thru and actually interact with a human being there?

What, precisely, would be your ideal food acquisition scenario? Telepathy? It has literally never been simpler to go from “I don’t have any fast food” to “hey, look! Fast food!”
