It's that time of year again. . .Cadbury Creme Eggs

Sort of like the Russel Stover ones, but much bigger. They used to be in normal grocery stores, and right now I am not finding anything online to show what I mean. I mean, you basically cut them with a knife to eat them, they were that big. <or seemed that big to me at the time!> They were in clear boxes; not as big as cakes, but maybe the size of a good hoagie.
Almost forgot my FAVORITE Easter bit, which is of course the bliss and joy of eating the ears off bunnies, and chewing the heads off ducks. <3

I admire all of you who have mentioned your ability to store candy in your freezer and have it last a while. I never even use the cabinets in my kitchen. Food or candy goes from the grocery bag into me. :o Less work that way I guess. Maybe I will buy a bunch and ask a friend to store them for me. (With a solemn promise to give me only one a week.)

They’re out already?!?! Oh, why must you tempt me so!!! I MUST have. Ever since I was a kid, they were always my favorite.

What I wonder though is, okay, they have the chocolate filled ones, and the caramel ones, why not peanut butter? Don’t get me wrong, the original are the best, but you gotta wonder on this.

No it isn’t! It’s not, I tell you! LALALALA It’s only January, for pity’s sake! Argh!

Creme Eggs are much to sweet and too gooey for my taste. I prefer the caramel eggs.

Of course, as a Nice Jewish Girl, I have no business eating Easter candy at all. ;)

For you, it’s Spring Break candy.

ETA: And I’m with you on the caramel eggs.

I like Creme Eggs, but they do tend to be too “sugary”, as someone upthread mentioned. The mini-eggs, though, are heaven on Earth.

Another seasonal (though not this season) favorite are the Terry’s Chocolate Oranges. I wait for November eagerly every year for that simple reason.

I do live up to the stereotype by buying some of it the day after, when it goes on sale for half off.

You can get the official Cadbury Creme Eggs fresh from the factory just after the American Thanksgiving holiday. I brought a batch of them to a fellow Doper in Japan a couple Christmases ago. Interesting fact: US Eggs are about 36 grams, the non-US are 40 grams.

Twisted is Cadbury’s bar version of the venerable Egg. It’s available year-round. The bar’s chocolate “shell” is much thicker. It’ll keep the gooey inside safe through a lot of travel. I’d brought so many Eggs to Japan (and a couple of the then-brand new Twisted bars) simply because I wasn’t sure how many would make the trip intact. What a disappointment it would have been.

If I believe in her hard enough, will the Easter Ostrich come to life?

Ooh! Excellent excuse.

I like the plain Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate and the Eclairs. Cadbury is the only chocolate I like.

the mini eggs, and the caramel egg. i stock up every year.

this year the christmas version (the little red, white, and green balls) were very difficult to find. only target had them in the philly area. i’m nearly out now, good thing the spring holidays are early this year.

for a few years there were dairy mild chocolate bunnies. mmmmmm, they were awesome. haven’t seen them for a bit.

runner, Use the knowledge only for good. The people in Bournville thought I was a little daft buying so many so early. I may have been their first buyer that year.

Another fun fact: Cadbury has Egg Cars. Five foot tall Cadbury Eggs on wheels. Alas, no chocolatey shell or creamy middles.

Yet another fun fact: Schools have field trips to Cadbury World. I had to practically knock down a couple busloads of middle schoolers who were texting while waiting for the factory tour, loitering in the lobby, obstructing my way to the gift shop. I wonder if there were oompa-loompas inside?

I haven’t seen creme eggs so far this year, here in Canada. I think that ours don’t tend to come out until after Valentines.

They are probably my favorite chocolate indulgence. No such thing as ‘too sweet’ - I love my chocolate just overwhelmed by gooey sweetness. (My only other big chocolate vice is Caramilk - also fairly big with the sweet filling factor.)

This will be the first easter season since I started calorie counting, so I guess I had best find out just how many are in a full-size cream egg, and plan accordingly.

I agree with this. I love chocolate cream candies but I find these to be too sweet

I picked up a packet of the mini Creme-eggs for Rosa and her Mum. They’re about the right amount of fondant and chocolate for me to manage without feeling sticky and oversugared.

For the past couple of years, my dad has brought home whole boxes of Cadbury eggs that were not sold during Easter (and became outdated). The problem is, while they are good in moderation, when you have a steady supply, you tend to want to eat them more often. And, if you do, it’s easy to get tired of the above mentioned over-sweetness.

I feel the same way about store-bought frosting, and, oddly, the creme inside the eggs tastes remarkably similar to that.

I also find it odd that I do like them with part of the creme being caramel, which actually increases the amount of sugar. For some reason, caramel just doesn’t taste as sweet.

i have a source for those! i get the coconut ones, eat the chocolate, use a melon ball thingy on the coconut and make irish potatos out of it. mmmmmm, chocolate and irish potatos!

I just saw this thread-- thanks again for all the delicious Cadbury treats, Caractacus! They were a big hit with all my Japanese friends, who were suitably impressed with the first-time creamy goodness.

I have to say however, that while the Twisted bar may win out on taste (the thicker outer shell really does add to the mix), the egg will always win out for me simply because you can bite the top off and stick your tongue entirely into the gooey center within. I’m totally salivating as I write this. We need a drooly smiley.

Thanks Caractacus– come back again!
