And I’m with kambuckta: You have entered the time when all will offer advice, at least half of which will be either painfully obvious, “Make sure you don’t drop him on his head now,” or simply stun you, “You know, you really should get him into a swim class before he’s two months old. And it’s never too early to start potty training, he is 5 weeks old already…”
This is great news! Kept thinking it should be soon now but wasn’t sure when. I’m so happy for all three of you. I can’t wait to see pictures of the little fellow. Lots of love and prayers for a good, easy delivery, Robin!
I was going to ask when you were going to register Aaron with his own Doper username, but I guess having his own livejournal is almost as good. Just be sure to indoctrinate him in the ways of the Great Cecil, y’hear?
Just think, you’ve had the last sleep you’re going to get for the next 18 years! Congratulations!!! Here’s wishing you an easy labor and speedy recovery.
Damn…and there we all were madly cracking the bubbly and about to pass around the cigars!! Never mind, it’ll happen soon, but soon enough is never soon enough is it?
Be cautious about the induction though. Having had kids with and without being induced, I can assure you that the ‘level of difficulty’ is far greater with an induction. Speeds everything up too much, and it’s harder to get a grip on the labour itself. Consequently, the need for further interventions is greater with these sorts of labours…perhaps something to ponder?
In the meantime. enjoy your last sleeps/meals without baby-chuck all over you/tidy laundries and backaches! Well, maybe not the backache, but you get the message!
Unfortunately, we have good reasons to induce. I’m Group B Strep positive, which means I need to get IV antibiotics ASAP, and am having the baby’s cord blood banked which requires logistics even I’m not capable of grasping. So, my OB wants to induce.
eeek! MsRobyn, I was induced under similar circumstances, (well, the Group B Strep bit, but not the cord blood - I don’t think they banked cord blood 23 years ago!) and everything went just fine for me and my mum. Best wishes to you, Airman Doors, and baby Aaron - hope everything goes as well as it should, and your little one is happy and healthy and adorable.
Well, when babydoorsdoes decide to make an appearance, I sure hope Uncle Cecil decides to come by and greet him. I mean, if the birth of the first doper baby isn’t cause for him to put in an appearance, I don’t know what is.
AWWWWW…I opened this thread thinking woohoo! new baby! woohoo!
Then I read MsRobyn’s post about inducing labor on July 29th. YEEEEEESSS!!! That’s my BD. How cool would it be to share a BD with the one and only much anticipated babydoors!
I’m all excited! The possibility of ice cream, cake and a new baby doper all in the same day. Could a birthday get better!
I’ve been having actual, real live contractions since Thursday night. I went to the hospital to be monitored yesterday, and was told by my OB that (as of yesterday; this may have changed) I am 1 centimeter (for lno’s benefit ;)) dilated and about 20% effaced. He doesn’t think I’ll make it through the weekend.
Airman is coming down this afternoon, so he’ll be there for the whole thing, poor guy. (I get very cranky when I’m in pain.)
I was about to say “well, make sure he brings the cell-phone so you can yell at all of us at the wedding about how much pain yer in”.
I think I need more sleep. No, scratch that. I know I need more sleep. Only problem is that I’m not tired. So maybe I need a new brain (because obviously Dave isn’t going to the wedding).
From my mother, who made five babies and delivered four of 'em:
“She will get through this and she will discover strength she didn’t know she had.”
My mother ought to be a politician with that straightline (joking, matt, dear;)). What she didn’t want me to tell you is that induction is supposed to be not the most fun in the world. But then delivery itself isn’t supposed to be painless and a friend of mine had just that experience for her delivery, so you never know:)
At any rate, make sure to punch Dave in the nose a lot for what he did to ya;)
So, what’s the word on Mr. Aaron Justin Cartwright’s arrival? Is labor to be induced tomorrow, or is the little fella deciding to arrive naturally first?
He came upon an eve so bleary,
Dad was cranky, Mom was weary
A shocking brilliant clanky room
Filled with bluish light from moon
Dear Mom was whipped
As Mom should be
Exhausted from maternity
But Dad was there to make you giggle
And offer you his useless nipple.
This place is fun, I’ll stick around
And learn to toddle on the ground
While Dad is screaming through the sky
Each precious mission, “do or die”.
But Mom was there
With words of care
"Your Dad loves us, and planes, and Air-
Each time you smile at him he sings
And writes your babbling on the wings
Of soaring aircraft flying by. "
A sturdy solid messy boy,
Content to sit and eat his toy
Like little boys are wont to do
Until he produces Lego poo.
For all the fuss and muss and holler
For car seats that cost a pretty dollar
He’ll only have to look up at
His Mom and Dad, and remember that
They wanted him more than life itself
And set their old lives on the shelf
To make his world a finer place
And prep him well
For Outer Space.
Reach for the stars, kiddo. You are welcomed to the planet. Remember, when they’re blowing bubbles against your belly until you giggle endlessly, it’s a good thing.
See, if babydoors makes his intro on the 29th he’ll be in wonderful bd company. Ayesha, Kyla, Peter Jennings, Marylin Quayle (well, everybody needs to have at least one embarrasing person to share a birthday with) and me.
Still working on it… Aaron’s making overtures at wanting out but hasn’t quite committed to it. He should be born in the next few days for sure, though.
