It's the MDMMP!! (Memorial Day Monday Morning Post...Fool!)

You are evil.

oh god - now someone else will be haunted by that jingle along with me

:smack: i meant “oh good” (mods - please fix that one, then delete this one. thanks)

gt. we have a “cold” snap once every few years. Summer days rarely get above 80 something, but mostly are in the high 70s. We think we’re having a real heat wave if we stay above 85 for any length of time (like two days).
I’d call that pretty moderate weather.

However, I can understand not wanting to move away from family and friends. As far as your friend in Germany, what’s another three hours on an airplane? It’s a nine hour flight from here to Germany. I know, because my mother has gone back home to Germany to visit several times. She always takes flights that go over the Pole.

taxi, it sounds like kitty had quite the adventure. I’m glad you made it safely there, along with kitty and mom.

You all have been much too busy. Stop it! Stop it now! You’re making me look bad!

I came home today from work and we decided to rotisserie our turkey roast on our new fancy-schmancy grill. It turned out alright, but goofed and forgot to leave some water in the drip pan. I couldn’t even hear the rotisserie running. I had to keep asking, is that thing even turning. It was, it just runs with barely a smidge of noise.

gotti, you’re just gonna love your Dyson Animal. I LURRRRRRRVES mine! I’m still extremely happy with it and I have had mine over a year now.

Bobbio, I’ve got chime in and say get HGTV to do your house. They’re ALWAYS having contests you can enter on-line. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see you on the TV, and we can say “Hey! I know that guy!”

I’ve got a load of laundry going and handwashed a few extra delicate shirts and hung or layed them flat to dry.

I am already so very ready for Friday. Tomorrow promises to be a very hectic and busy day at work. I have a video-teleconference at the end of the day too. I am hoping against hope that it’s over on time, but sometimes this particular one runs over the allotted time. This means I stay late. Oh well.

We received notification that our permanent license plates are in at the dealer’s. So, I need to run down there and collect them. I won’t have them install the plates though, because I don’t want to have to mess with going through the main gate of the installation I work on to get a temporary pass. I’ll just pick up my plates and registration one evening this week. The next day I’ll go to the Provost Marshal with my registration and proof of insurance and get my installation sticker. Then I’ll come home and install my permanent plates. Sounds stupid, doesn’t it? They’ll let me in the hospital gate with my “happy tag” and my CAC, but if I have permanent plates and no sticker, I have to go clear around to the main gate. Then I have to park at the visitor center, wait in line to get a number, then wait until my number is called. All this for a temporary visitors pass even though I have two pieces of government ID (hospital badge and CAC).

Well, I think I’m going to veg for a short while now.

Good morning!

Y’all have been a bunch of busy little posters! I missed all day yesterday, due to training. What kind of training? ARRMMY training… erm no, SAAAFETY Training.

More training for the possibility of visiting an offshore rig. A year’s worth of safety training, all crammed into one day. MSDS’s, back safety, ladder safety, fire safety… can you say fried brain? I knew you could. And we had to take a TEST! I made 95 out of 100.

So I’ve only skimmed the last day of posts, and now I really must get some work done. :frowning:

And that’s what makes the world go round, donut? I luuuvvees hot weather. Let’s get Tropical…Tropical! I hate cold. I don’t want to have to wear anything more binding than a pair of shorts and a tank top. Bugs don’t bother me. Dark, dreary, dirty snow is yuckky! Static electricity is really annoying. Give me those garden-fresh veggies. Enough said.

I gotta run. Mac seminar this morning.

Tupug

Rose, sweetie. I hope you stub your toe.

I’ve got that little jingle in my head, and what’s worse, it’s not in a language I understand.

I’ve just returned from the dark country of rosie’s link. Gah! Make it stop!!

I think this needs further explanation.

gt – I love cannas and four-o-clocks! Nice old-fashioned flowers. My grandmother had a big canna bed and when I was very small I thought she was calling them cannons!

Taxi – what a pretty kitty, soot and all.

Lissla, I thought you were making HISTORICAL necklaces. Now there’s a job for you. Come up with a historical necklace. You can do it!

Allergy Update: My poor daughter is more incapacitated than I am. When I picked her up from summer camp yesterday, her eyes were bloodshot and swollen, and the skin all around her eyes was swollen and red. Thank God for Benedryl. And Visine. We got her back to normal, but today they’re going to a wildlife center. She wanted to go, so we drugged her up, and she’s going to see how it goes. If she’s miserable, she’s going to have to skip field trips until June 15. That’s how long the grass pollen is hideous here, May 15-June 15. Thankfully it’s only one month. But my poor daughter! I didn’t start the suffering until I was a teenager; she’s only 11.

I’m so happy to find so many burgoo-literate people. My husband grew up in Owensboro and he pines for his indigenous fodder. We had the burgoo again last night because with the allergy-treatments and all, I didn’t get to start dinner until almost 7 pm. So, I reheated the burgoo and leftover cornbread and (for the kiddies) bean burritos.

Today’s question – does anyone like kale? I’m about to start a thread in Cafe Soc to troll for recipes. I’ve got a big bunch of it and the one time I’ve had it, it was yuck. I need non-yuck recipes.

Every kid’s dream, coming true (?)…

I asked my real estate agent, who will also be my neighbor when we move, about the local fire protection. Sure enough, the department is volunteer, and I want to join as soon as we get settled. With Mayberry being such a small town, the Chief is the hubby of the agent’s best friend, so I’ll be set up toot-sweet…

VunderBob, a fireman. Who’d’a thunk it?

We had the radio on when we painted the kitchen and living room a few weeks back–that frickin’ jingle, every time they went to commercial. I was almost ordering carpet in my sleep.

Taxi, glad to hear Lily likes her new digs–more or less.

Gotti, I need to lay down now. I mopped the hallway this weekend, and that was about all I had the energy for.

I stayed up too late last night. Again. I sit down at my computer, start writing, and suddenly it’s two a.m. and I know I’m going to regret it. It’d be an entirely different story, of course, if what I was writing was actually good.

Mom, I think it’s bad form to discuss mud, drywall, and potter’s wheels all in the same paragraph. We won’t be able to figger out what kind of mud is on the walls…

**Drae ** - whatcha writing about?
**Bobbio ** - yay on you for joining “Mayberry”'s Bravest (please tell me the town you’ve moved to really isn’t called Mayberry. That would be just too, well, bizarre)
I can just picture you and Chief Charles Durning at the local pub knocking back a few after fighting that blaze at McGregor’s Farm

Heh, my SIL actually lives in a place called Green Acres. Everytime I think about her, that Greenacres song runs through my head.

That’s cool you’re planning on joining the FD, Bobbio.

I just popped in here real quick-like. I’ve got to do some work, even though I’m here early. Too much to do, not nearly enough time in the day.

The town is South Mills. If you look on a map, it’s halfway between Elizabeth City and the VA state line on US17. It’s a local move.

To me, calling it Mayberry is an asset. Besides, Mt. Airy, the real life model for Mayberry from the show, is in the general area.

Mornin’ all. Good to see some regulars back from the fray.

That video is cool-but what does the jingle mean? And the people doing dancing ada calisthenics sure were interesting.

I sent it to my daughter who is in Honors Physics.
Today I wait for plumbers and find someone at HD who can help me re my floor. Still no call to install–and it was supposed to be in on Friday. <sigh>

More rain last noc and more heat and humidity today. good grief.

I’ll take autumn and fall, thanks very much–I used to love spring, back when we actually had spring, and didn’t go straight from 40’s to 90’s in less than 24 hours.

Still, we do need the rain. We’ve been dry for something like 5 years–it’s amazing how little standing water there is, despite torrential rainfall 2 days running, on top of many rainy days these past 2 weeks.

Thanks for the SD on Mr Rogers–I thought it sounded nonsensical. Sadly, I heard in at the Memorial Day speeches by some leaders of our local VFW. Mr Rogers had no military experience according to Snopes–IMO, he was what you saw on TV. He was interviewed by Teri Gross a few years back and you could hear the interview change from her (well intentioned) poking fun and his absolute sincerity of good will and just plain niceness. Same thing happened when Garret somebody (off early SNL) met up with him–Garret did Mr Robinson’s 'Hood as a satire–yet when they met, he changed from snark to respect for Mr R.

All that said, I didn’t like his show and never watched it. But I respected the man alot–hell, the world could use a few more Mr Rogers.

(d’you think I need meds or what? Riffing on Mr Rogers? I need to get out more…)

Taxi -you have an official chimney cat. How do you like Mpls? When do you start work?

LilLi -beading necklaces now? What happened to pastry chef-ing? I am hankering for a pain au chocolat about now–any chances of you sending one thru the CD drive? Are the necklaces long, or more like chokers?

And to whoever it was upthread: I like camping too–and camping near an indoor bathroom is even better!

Actually, Eddie Murphy did Mr. Robinson–Garrett Morris did the “I’m Gonna Get Me A Shotgun” song.

I am a city girl at heart. I want a bathroom and an accessible shower. I’ve been known to camp under extreme conditions, but most of my friends know better than to ask me. I blame my parents. They made camping torturous when I was a child. Or, quite possibly, I’m just not an outdoors kinda gal.

Every now and then, I get an idea in my head and usually start a relatively cheesy romance novel that never gets finished–mostly just because my friends enjoy reading them. I save my better ideas for National Novel Writing Month every November. I have no illusions about my limited talent, but it’s something to do and occasionally amusing.

Taters - the Green Acres here is a cemetary. Glad your SIL doesn’t live there! But I guess the neighbors are quiet.

Trying to get some stuff done around here with Mr. SCL’s help is starting to be a pain in the neck because of his work schedule. He’s off today, but his sister is coming over with some bead work she wants me to help with. He’s off Friday and Saturday, but I have the Restless Leg appointment Friday morning and a Booster Club cookout Saturday. I kinda have to go to the cookout since I’m one of the new officers and all. I doubt he’ll end up with two days off in a row anyway, because they are short nurses on the case he’s working on. It’s a “catastropic care” case - a quadripligic - and the patient can be very hard to deal with emotionally. I understand that his accident was only about a year ago and he has yet to come to terms with it. I can understand that. I don’t know if I ever would. Thankfully, he has both mother and father, a brother and some nieces who visit on a regular basis. He had never married or had kids. He and Mr. SCL discovered that Mr. SCL is one month older than the patient.

However understandable the patients attitude may be, it doesn’t help with retaining nurses. Young fresh-out-of-school nurses haven’t hardened up enough yet to be able to deal with him, and experienced nurses tend to want to work somewhere where they have benefits such as medical insurance, which this agency doesn’t provide. So until they can recruit some more nurses, Mr. SCL will be working more than the 3 days a week he signed on for. He used to work in a mental hospital, so this patient’s attitude isn’t difficult for him!

Back from Mac seminar. Learned some stuff.

Mr. Anachi says his idea of camping is Holday Inn beachfront.

Mine is this

I third taxi doing next week’s MMP.

rosie, how could you?

gotti, where are the pics?

gt, ditto on the pics of your flahrs.

You will have to buy your pain au chocolat this week. It’s too hot to even think about turning on the oven. I normally rotate between obsessive cooking, sewing, and different types of jewellery making. I mostly do mini chainmail and bead and eyepin stuff but I’ve done needle and thread beading, too. It all makes for the world’s messiest desk.

<jealous, jealous, jealous eyes at Lissla>

I want time to do a hobby–time and no kids and no interruptions…

Crap. I think I want to be retired!

I almost put Eddie Murphy, but then thought, nah-it can’t be…

I found out what the problem is re the flooring. No quarter-round. My flooring has been shipped and has arrived to the installer. Th installer was a-waiting fer the quarter round to come BEFORE setting an install date. The installer was not destined to ever get the QR because I had not requested it be painted or stained–but HD never told me that I had to come pick up the QR!

God knows how long these people would have just sat on this. As it is, I don’t get my floor until 6/12. <sigh>

I think I’ll throw meself a big pity party today. I feel the need to sulk. Plumbers are here-, making alot of noise.
