Thank you, Crotalus; and probably I should have gone ahead and said it was Rick Bragg, but I though Dopers would like a little puzzle.
Illuminatiprimus, he said in his talk Saturday that people often tell him they enjoy his work because it’s about the (American) South, but he really believes that it’s because it’s about class. Just about everyone, be they physician or philosopher, executive or cube-dweller, has relatives with memories of what it’s like to work with your hands. “His people” are just such the earthy sort, and his memoir books are full of interesting stories of their lives, beautifully written. It was such a thrill for me to meet him; I’ve admired him for a long time.
