I've been meaning to compliment your sig!

This officially goes out to Drewbert, because his sig “Just a guy made of dots and lines…” is from one of my favorite They Might Be Giants songs, “See The Constellation.” And every time I look at his sig, I just go, “man, that’s great. I should tell him!” And then I go off and post on something random and forget. But not This Time!

Anyways, Drewbert, your sig rocks.

Anyone else can say this to anyone else in this thread, it doesn’t JUST have to be about drew…

Whoever has that Gandhi sig about Christianity–that just plain rocks.

Someone has a sig line quoting Einstein about problem solving. I should of cut and pasted it then and would be grateful if someone would now. It was really beautiful in its stark simplicity and depth.

It’s not this, is it?

Problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them.

(That’s all I could find.)

I think my sig ROCKS!!!

your sig, Sue Baby, Rocks like AC/DC

I like the one “Christianity is a symptom of the disease it is trying to cute”

there are some others too, Funny stuff

Zenster, thank you.

Wacko, now I’ve got a cool sig line, all I need to do is get the posts up to the same calibre.

There is a much coarser variant, oft quoted in business aphorisms: The people who get you into the shit, are not the people who will get you out of it.

the one advising us to ride a cowboy is my fav.
Whos is it?

I always liked one I haven’t seen for a while.

(probably paraphrased)

" Only a genius or a fool would make such a move.
** SouthernStyle **, being both, had no choice."

Wonder what ever happened to him.

Someone quite some time ago had a sig that said (paraphrased, since I don’t remember who said the first 2 quotes… Nietsze? Voltaire? Someone else will smack me upside the head and let me know soon, I’m sure.):

“To do is to be” (by such and such)
“To be is to do” (by so and so)
“Do Be Do Be Do” Sinatra

Does anyone remember who had this sig?
(And can anyone enlighten me as to whose the quotes are?)

“Stop slouching towards Bethlehem!” --The mother of the beast

(held by ** CalMeacham **
(paraphrased) The instructions on the pudding package say, “mix with cold milk, then chill.” That’s what I do every night - I make pudding, then I chill. Awwwwwwwwww, yeah!

(held by ** Tommy the Cat **

All right, you guys are ripping off my ideas. There’s a sig I love, and just this morning I thought “wouldn’t it be a great idea to post to that person that I love their sig?”

Then, I see this and instantly know the one I want to put on there. Too late, Brunetter beat me to it.

Every time I read the bit about cooking and chilling, I just get hysterical. I forwarded that quote home for later. I don’t know what I’m going to do with it, but I just feel the need to keep it around for future use.

Thanks Totoro, glad ya like it!

I played that song at the end of my last live star show at my old job at Morehead Planetarium… I hope somebody noticed!

My goodness! Since I’ve never been directly mentioned in a thread before, opening this one and seeing not one but two mentions of me and my sig, it’s enough to make one giddy.

Brunetter and scout1222, thanks, thanks a lot.

I’ve always liked the Sarchasm sig: “Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the recipient who doesn’t get it.”

Who uses that one, anyway?

I love that sig Tommy. It sounds like it’s from a movie I should know, but…

Everytime I read it, I get a little chuckle.

I also really like those sigs that are well layed out, even if it has to do with some personal thing I know nothing about. Just as long as they have a good aesthetic(sp?) quality.

I deperately need a new sig.

Maybe I’m slow or ill-informed, but I have yet to make sense of Derleth’s sig:

U235+n->Rb90+Cs143+3n+165 J/Kg

Perhaps someone could explain it to me (please?)

DVous, I believe Derleth’s sig is the chemical equation for a nuclear reaction, and more accurately, a hydrogen bomb (I believe).

Simetra, Tommy’s sig is from “The State”, that old MTV sketch comedy show. I believe it was Johnny Bluejeans (or the guy who played him, now seen on “Ed”) and somebody else who were quite excited about having been given $250, and spending most of it on pudding. Its the only skit I remember from that episode. Hilarious! Thanks Tommy.

Gee, Thanks!

I don’t know where it originated, but I know that series of quotes appeared in the MIT guidebook HoToGAMIT in the mid 1970s. I’ll have to dig out my old copy, but the quotes are from philosophers – Artre and Nietzche, maybe.
DVous Means:

It’s a nuclear reaction. You add a (presumably high- speed) neutron to an atom of Uranium 235 and it splits into a lotta parts, giving off 165 Joules of energy per Kilogram. That’s a pretty fair amount. It also spits out three more neutrons, which can go on to fission other atoms of U235. This reaction lets you build bombs, power plants, and Pop Rocks for Jovians.

dantheman’s Hall o’ Significant Sigs!

“I must leave this planet, if only for an hour.” – Johnny L.A.

“Evidently, I rock.” – Esprix

“spooje, who clearly cannot spell.” – spooje

“This post brought to you by the letter K.” – Rasa

“‘Sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast!’ - the White Queen” – Duck Duck Goose

“‘There are only two things that are infinite: The Universe, and human stupidity-- and I’m not sure about the Universe.’ --A. Einstein” – Chronos

More to come, I’m sure… soon as I remember them!

There’s one that mentions an N on a hill… dammit, whose is that…
