I've Fallen! And I need to MMP!

FCM, probably need to take my car in for service, the computer sez I still have 30% of oll life left, but it hasn’t been serviced since April, sooooo…

Rain started yesterday, continued on-and-off during the night, and the real heavy rain is due this afternoon. So of course I’m probably going out in a bit to pay my property tax (it went up about $200, oh joy). Will try not to get rained on. On the good side, it’s 58F and only going to the mid-60’s today.

gotti, hope the bill is smaller than you think. And good luck with any pain remedy.

shoe, Mom used to call that beef and noodles, and even if that’s not a great description, it sure sounds good, salty or not.

Nona, glad you are back, {{{ }}} for MIL passing, yeah for getting folks out of the house…it’s your house, you should be able to do what you want…

Sari, I understand why some owners don’t want their dogs neutered, but they really need to be trained well if they’re going out in group sessions like that (IMHO). And silly woman will get her door ripped off (and that is all if she’s lucky) one of these days.

Red, hope Nelson gets a clean bill of heath from the vet.

Need to make myself presentable in public and head off to pay the property bill. All y’all take care.

Now, I don’t understand this. If you’re not a breeder, you don’t need an intact pet. It’s healthier for the critter and the rest of the world for them to be fixed, not to mention fewer unwanted animals. If a guy defines his manliness by his dog’s balls, he’s got some serious issues, IMHO.

I found the bedroom TV. I’d put it away somewhere safe, then forgot where. I’d tucked it among FCD’s jeans that he rarely wears and because they’re dark and the TV is black, it was kinda invisible. But it’s all good now. We just need to get it installed again.

Very dreary day. I’m counting the minutes till Roxy takes a nap. Does that make me an evil grandmother??? :wink:

If it does it makes me one exactly as evil.

Boo

Finally slept IN like I’d wanted. Today is another Blessed Day Off and it’s supposed to be sunny. That means laundry! Yay!
Oh, and when I pull off the sheets, I need to readjust something in the bed frame - I think Monkey knocked some slats out of place or something. Damn bed squeaks with every tiny movement, like I’m doing the audio for a brothel scene or something.

I need to portion the beef’n’noodles into the freezer - kinda crapped out on that last night.

I have GOT to clean the litter box, and both kitties are overdue for a teeth brushing & claw clipping.

Let’s see, what else? Looks like my voter application showed up - bug me about that, y’all! Please! I need to get that turned in.
There’s definitely more dishes - still haven’t washed the damn mixing bowl. { shameface }

Bah. I need something fun. Maybe I’ll work on that scrap-wood table some more.

Sorted, and got Gordie to go out right before the rain. Time for a nap

gotti, EEK! Hope the doc can at least lessen teh back pain, if not the wallet pain.

{{{{Nona}}}}

sari, hope Ripple feels better. And isn’t it fun to watch an episode of “Brokeback Mutt”?

I am working out a new routine since my retirement. Today I was able to sleep a little later than normal. After a cup of coffee and a thin bagel I spent 45 minutes in the home gym. Sunflower is down there now. While she is getting her workout in, I am going to tidy up the house. I am not sure what we will do after that.

It is still all new and weird

Thanks everyone for all the feedback yesterday - it helped a lot. Also, as luck would have it, we got an email from the district and they’re prioritizing getting the littles back to school and said they’ll “continue to evaluate the data on high school students,” which to me is a nice way of saying, “don’t hold your breath.” Plus, for some reason they’re prohibiting contact sport play in our county but as of Monday allowing full contact sports for our district to be played in the counties next to us - and there are no mask or crowd mandates in either location, so both are red counties with high infection rates. Given the likely number of resulting quarantines, I doubt they’ll be able to open the HS until next year anyway.

In other news, I went for a walk/run this morning with my bubble-friend for about 45 minutes. I know I should do that or something similar every single day (or at least most days) because it does amazing things for my ability to sleep and my state of mind, but bed is so deliciously comfy and it’s such a darned luxury to lounge about in my PJs for a few minutes in the morning with no one talking to me.

Ditto. A neighbor of mine used to have numerous BIG dogs, all intact males, said she couldn’t afford to get them neutered and anyway, “they don’t have puppies so it’s not my problem.” Lady, you have 4 kids – do I really need to explain how this works? I pointed out that the city works with the local Humane Society to provide free or nearly free neutering. She said she knew about it but it was just too much trouble – even though the HS is less than 2 miles away. (It’s where I just got cat #2 in August.)

Dog shows won’t let neutered animals be entered.

To clarify, I was thinking more about show dogs or people who do breeding. I agree that the norm should be neutered.

Well, went to the local tax office (it’s only 4 miles away) to find the payment window is closed until Moanday, so I’ll plan to go then. Still raining outside and looks like no soccer today.

Back to internettin’, with nappage expected in the afternoon.

I wonder, tho, how many people are active in showing their dogs? I think the main reason is laziness or macho posturing, or just ignorance.

Got the kid down for a nap. Now I need to sort stuff. rah.

Took me until this morning to realize: I got celery yesterday, specially for the pot roast … and promptly forgot all about it. Guess I didn’t want it that badly.

First load of laundry is spinnin’ and so is my head - I’m busy fending off a panic attack.
I have an impending looming task that should have been completed months ago, but I do not know the first step, have never done this before, and it’s such a basic “adulting” thing everyone has to do that I’m ashamed of this gigantic knowledge gap and have no idea how - or whom - to ask for help.

Shoe Breathe. there’s no shame in asking for help. You never know who has expertise or has also had to bridge the gap.

Funny you mentioned celery. I bought some this morning, and now I have to eat it, because I can’t just buy the two stalks for the recipe. Usually I use the celery for the recipe and then forget about it until it’s limp. This time I’m trying to eat it while it’s still fresh. The soup I’ll make tomorrow morning.

Just had to close all the windows because it was pouring. It’s the beginning of a cold and rainy phase that will put snow on the mountains and keep the rest of us a bit chilly, hence soup making.

I have fig banana bread in the oven and then I have to go do my foot stretches so I don’t walk around in pain. Then watch some more of A Room with a View. Strange to think it was made in the 80s.

@Die_Capacitrix breathing. Sipping chicken soup.
I also started laundry & worked on my next rattie enclosure, because those are things well within my comfort zone and I know exactly what to do next.
All of which help remind me that I’m not a hopeless idiot.

I’m going to fire up the laptop later & see how far I can muddle along under my own brainpower (which is considerable, despite what the goblins are whispering in my head right now) and I remind myself that I can always consult the Oracle of Teh Googlez for suggestions and guidance.

Worse come worst, I’ll start a thread here asking for help.
Or take it to the “adulting” Reddit forum.

The soup is helping. Boiled chicken bones somehow soothe any damn thing this world chucks at ya.

Oh, and limp celery is quickly revived by cutting off the dried ends, and sticking the stalks into ice water.

When I buy celery I go ahead and wash it and cut it into 4" or so pieces and put in a plastic bag with water to cover. Then, when it’s lunch time, I take out a few pieces, dry them off and fill with peanut butter. Yum.

@gotpasswords

After a week, you should be noticing some improvement. It isn’t like the angels singing at the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

You’ll just be doing ordinary stuff and realize, “Hey, I’m doing more!”

This does not mean you can head to Lowe’s and buy five-gallon paint cans, with the idea of painting the exterior of the house. Just enjoy your small increments, and maybe you will accumulate more small increments as time passes.

And you might find you are using fewer pain pills.

How long does it last? That’s a frustrating question, because the only answer you get is people looking up at the ceiling, saying, “It depends.”

Unfortunately, that is the truth.

The sad truth is that NERVES GROW BACK. You can have the ablation done numerous times. (I think I’m up to five…or maybe six)

Since your is in your lower back, please use good body mechanics! No twisting when lifting, blah blah blah. You don’t want the ablation to “wear off” and discover you’ve torn up all your ligaments!

Ablation is not perfect. And it isn’t permanent. But is is a helluva lot better than what you had before, which was nothing.

Back in SCal. The downstairs toilet (“our” bathroom) decided to plug itself up and be unresponsive to a plunger. I have difficulty with stairs, and I had the misfortune of developing a bladder infection the night before we left AZ.

Mr VOW coerced the toidy this AM, so now it is unblocked. That means that Grandma (me!) gets to wade through the cess pond and clean up the &$@%##!! mess.

And my neck hurts.

Mr VOW is bright and cheerful (not) because ADT got an alarm from our house in AZ. So sheriff deputies have been dispatched, and a trusted neighbor sent over to see what in Hell is going on.

Apparently nothing.

I’m ready to go back to bed.

But I have to wash my feet first.

Just subscribed. Was already in Grownups. Which reminds me, I need to email my insurance guy. I had travel insurance with another company, and they canceled on me. Not going anywhere soon, but I should arrange travel insurance sooner than later, because many insurance policies have a sort of waiting period before they come into force.

And learned something. My mother hates celery, so we usually didn’t have any in the house. She only uses it in dressing for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She’s odd that way.

(Hopefully I didn’t break any quoting rules, but just for clarity, I did do some snipping.)

Snipping is perfectly fine. We’re chatty, long-winded folks, so snipping is commonplace.

Changing actual words, now that’s a no-no.

You’re good.

Thanks for the reminder - I needed to get a load of unders into the wash today and I’d forgotten. You have saved me from the embarrassment of rewearing my dainties. OK, not really dainty - basic white cotton, but still, in another couple of hours, it’ll all be clean, dry, folded, and put away.

I just finished a scavenger hunt for the documents we need to fill our when we see the lawyer next week about our wills. I was about to call her office and ask them to email duplicate, but we’re good. Whew. That’s my chore this weekend - get it all filled out.

And I’ve put a coat of paint on our coat rack - it’s actually a board with hooks that is held to the side of the pantry with screws. I was going to leave it in place so the painters could make it match the wall, but someone wanted it to come down. I’m painting it in the contrasting gray just to be fancy.

As for celery, I don’t like it raw - don’t like the persistent smell on my hands or the texture - but I use it in cooking quite a bit - I like the flavor it gives to soups and such. Just one of them adorable quirks I have. :smiley:

Critter fountain pump has ceased to pump - time to replace it… again… dammit.
