I've Got Your Goat, A College Flashback MMP

You’re mean, Soapy!:stuck_out_tongue: Besides, I told you I would have tried to fit you in my carry-on, but my carry on is small.

My friend tried to cancel her car; no cigar. I just tried; no cigar. Bleh. Yes, I’m still going to Hawaii, but it just got more expensive, is all.

I like your sofa, **FCM. ** Sometimes going with a neutral or plain/solid is better. You can always accessorize with an area rug, pillows, etc. to give the room flair. Ya know, sometimes less is more.

gt, I am writhing in jealousy. I’m definitely going to try the Cherry-Lambic Sorbet recipe that you linked in Food and Wine, seeing as we make our own ice cream at home on a semi-regular basis… and that one sounds incredibly yummy (cherry and beer? what’s not to love?)

Have fun at the farm, LiLi! Sending lots of non-rainy thoughts.

I have a knitting class tomorrow. Hurray! I’m meeting my friend the Giddy Librarian for brunch beforehand, because any flimsy excuse to get together for brunch is a good one as far as I’m concerned.

Anyhoo, time to get started on din-dins. Tonight’s we shall be having chicken soup (homemade, because I had some sitting the freezer) with wontons (store-bought, because I’m feeling lazy) and veggies. It will be Yum.

Sorry about the car mix-up, Taters.

Very nice sofa, FCM.

Just saw the first hour of a really cool documentary on Berlin. It’s called 24h Berlin and litterally covers 24 hours of a day in Berlin. All different kinds of people and different aspects of their lives. It’s over here on The Auteurs, which is a site where you can watch films online, some for free and some for pay. This one’s free. I think you might need to sign up to watch it from there. If you don’t want to sign up, the documentary has a Web site that I haven’t explored yet.

Also uploaded pics from my camera. Need to work on organizing them and uploading them to flickr.

Off to do more productive stuff, I hope.

Well, they got half-n-half thighs and boobies. I happen to have a personal stash of chicken thighs because they are the only part of the chicken I can tolerate post- sveltification.

Ol’ Leon had a good send-off. There was so damned much food post-funeral that nobody would have noticed if I didn’t bring anything.

For the record, I want a pony keg to be present at my post-funeral get together. For that matter, I want my funeral to be a celebration of a life well lived, not a “He’ll be in heaven with Jeebus and the angles” sobfest. The more tall tales and war stories told about me, the better.

I am hungry. And TVMan is napping. :dubious:

That’s it Taters! Let your inner gay man shine through!

Got fava beans and chianti?

I need to borrow a small wet trout. Daughter is in need of a slight whapping.
According to her, she is miserable at school, nothing is right, everything is horrible etc. Here we go again… I didn’t know I was raising a drama queen of sorts. Here is what is so horrid:

  1. She ran in a 10k this morning. She is ok with her time, but perhaps wanted it to be better.

  2. She is coming down with a cold or has one or something. She isn’t feeling well, but can’t really say how.

  3. Her birthday dinner is “ruined”–one friend has just (today) been diagnosed with swine flu, so she’s out. Other friend is good for dinner, but then must study. Daughter canceled 3rd friend and now regrets doing so (I never see her!). And… “I have no more friends…”

  4. School is much harder than she thought. WHY does she have at least 2 tests every week? (she is maintaining a high B/low A average)

  5. She will be ALONE, ALL ALONE tomorrow, the anniversary of her birth.
Can I get a big . Not to be snarky about my own kid’s pain and all but.

Here is what I told her:

  1. You are extra tired from setting an 8 minute mile pace for the race. You already feel like you’re coming down with something. Couldn’t these 2 factors have a great deal to do with your current “everything is awful” outlook?

  2. Friend couldn’t help getting swine flu (she knows this), but why did you cancel friend #3? Why not call her up and tell her that you are just beat and not feeling well tonight, but would love to see her for coffee or brunch tomorrow (this girl has rehearsal tomorrow afternoon). That way, you still see her, but when you’re not so tired, and you won’t then be ALONE, ALL ALONE on your Bday. Plus, we are Skyping tomorrow and she got our care/Bday package which she is waiting until tomorrow to open.

  3. Welcome to college, where tests happen all the time… And you are playing soccer with your French House tomorrow against another foreign language house–make friends with someone there.
I know I don’t sound all that sympathetic, but I rode this rollercoaster with her last year. “I love it; I hate it”. I can’t do that anymore.

Almost time to start ST:TMP with #2 son.

I’m just about done tidying up. I’ve been taking my sweet-assed time about it and should be further along, but hell, I’m doing it on my own. Daughter is at work, son is upstairs goofing off on the computer, and hubby just took off to the liquor store. Before that, he was goofing off on one of the computers here in the den.

I guess I’m feeling slightly miffed. Sure, invite people over, but no help in getting ready for them; well other than him running out to the liquor store.

It’s not that the house is a total disaster, it just needs tidying and a quick run with vaccuum. I’ve cleaned the kitchen. I need to sweep the floor, but I’m not going to bother to wash it. Everytime I invite people over and wash the floor, it’s trashed within the first 30 minutes from people walking in and out to smoke on the back patio. Hell with it.

They’re good friends, it’s not like the house needs to be absolute perfection anyway. Besides, I cleaned up really well last weekend when they were going to come over and then everyone cancelled.

rigs, I hear ya on the up and down roller-coaster. School is GREAT! School sucks! My life sucks!

I should stop sniveling and get back to the tidying. They’ll all be here in about three hours.

Hooray! TVMan woke up and we went to Perkins. It was way too much food, though, and I brought a chocolate mammoth muffin (that was part of my dinner) home for later.

I’m not mean!! I’m playful! And an excellent traveling companion.

Do you travel with or without your tower?

No ivory towers allowed! Ivory Tower Denizen can come, but not the tower. We plan to have lots of fun, and we’re probably going to be naughty too, so the ivory tower would just put a damper on the fun.;)

I’m sure you’d make a most excellent traveling companion, Soapy!

No Tower. I get to leave the tower every now and again.

My roof is leaking (not the tower roof, but my actual house roof). Torrential rain. Thankfully, husband is handy and temporarily fixed the roof.

I am on ST III, the search for Spock. I am wide awake and enjoying myself immensely. I will be going to sleep after this one, though–watching 4 ST movies all at once would TOO geeky!

Okay all you patient people - I will finally tell you one of my college tales. Here’s one that typifies my (then) naïve and trusting nature.
Picture it: New Paltz, 1977. A few dozen students crammed into a one bedroom apartment off campus. We were dancin’ and drinkin’ and smokin’ weed and having a blast. There were yummy muchies all around as well. So my two closest friends say “come do shots with us” So I go into the kitchen where they hand me a clear plastic cup with two ounces of a clear liquid, which I determined was Cuervo Silver. They each had one as well. We all downed the double shot. I went back to dancing. A few moments later they came over with more double shots. Downed that and danced some more. Then I noticed Oreos on the coffee table so I decided to pour myself some milk and have some cookies. I was sitting on the couch talking to someone, enjoying my snack and my friends hand me a third double shot. Then someone asked me to dance. I stood, and the floor jumped up and met me in the face. But I never blacked out, just lost all use of my motor functions. So I was help into bed and given a garbage pail and left “to die”. The next morning, after some coffee and Tylenol, my two closest friend said they had to confess something to me, I could not imagine what.
They told me that although they were matching me shot for shot, while I was downing tequila, they were downing straight water.

I’ll let you all mull that one over for a bit.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. I don’t know why though. I woke up at five forty-five am to pee, went back to bed but never actually went back to sleep so I got up a bit ago. OYKW is snoozin’ away, however. Then again, bein’ as I do start work at six am, I guess sleepin’ til five forty-five is sleepin’ late for me. Humph!

Rosie you have evil friends. I think I’d like 'em.

It’s coolish out. Haven’t checked the temp but if feels like mid to upper forties. Brrr…

Think I’ll go surfin’ for a while.

Later Y’all!

Low fifties here - after a high of 77 or so yesterday. Our weather is weird.

This week I got to thinking that December will be 30 years since I graduated from college. Altho I never went thru graduation, since that was only done in June and I was already working in the Pentagon by then. And, frankly, I didn’t care about that - all I cared about was my commissioning.

**FCD **woke up in the wee small hours and came out to find there was a teensy leak in his filter system, so he had to remove about 10 gallons of water in order to seal it up again. We shall see how well sealed it is a little later today. Stoopit fish tank… :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s time to shower, dress, and get some breakfast. Plus we need to go to Lowe’s again for one more plumbing part.

Happy Sunday!

Morning y’all! I’m up, caffeinated, and just finished baking my devil’s food cake. YUM, the apartment smells like chocolate cake now. I’m thinking mocha frosting now … yeah.

Rosie, your friends are evil! I had a similar experience with tequila, btw. I still can’t drink it … for years afterwards, I couldn’t even smell it without feeling sickish! I went to get up, I don’t remember how many shots I’d had, and fell on someone’s stereo. I think they were more concerned about their stereo than me, isn’t that awful?! They put me in my bed with a trash can by my head … I’m sure that I felt like I was going to die several times during the night. :shudders:

And this, boys and girls, is why I don’t drink today! :stuck_out_tongue: Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday!

You won’t mind if I just subtly scrape the icing off of my piece then, right?
I’m up and just about ready to make the usual breakfast. Except it’s just occurred to me that I have no chocolate chips for my pancakes. I guess I’ll have to choke them down with a teeny tiny bit of syrup. :dubious:

CutiePie I find this trend of yours to be without chawklit chips to be disturbing. :stuck_out_tongue:

Know what’s amazin’? How the smell of bacon and waffles can wake someone from a deep sleep to alertness in no time. Anywho, we are all brekkied, I’m all purtified for churchification and OYKW is in the midst of his purtification ritual.

Happy Sunday Y’all!
