I’ve witnessed equal cluelessness in the other direction.
There is a baby equipment supply store in Toronto. We went there, with baby. The place had set up a special baby-friendly washroom, with change table and everything. We changed the baby on the change table.
Only problem: no garbage can. Mind you the place sold things like the ‘diaper genie’, but they did not stock one in their own washroom. Indeed, there was nothing whatever to put a poopy diaper in.
Went to the employees, asked what to do with poopy diaper. They did not know. Ended up bagging it and taking it with us.
I was thinking - how on earth could this issue not have come up before? It was hardly a great example of making sales. You would think they would at least use their own product.
It is simple really - in general society works okay if there is a reasonable purportion of young folk working to support old folk not working. Too many old folk and not enough young folk, and society doesn’t work so good.
We had to use a changing table on the sales floor once at the direction of one of the clerks. We put down our portable pad under her though. It was because they didn’t have a changing table in the restroom.
Again, at what point do you think that you all should stop having children so they can participate in this ponzi scheme? Not that it is an issue for me, since SS won’t be a majority of my retirement income but I do think it rather odd of a parent to be planning on enslaving their kids to a rickety government money suck.
Um, when was the last time you had the opportunity to vote on anything to do with Medicare?
This is if you have a government program sucking money out of workers so they can pay out the money to those who have retired, who paid out money while they worked to support… It ain’t going to last forever. Besides, even as those younger people are working and paying in, they are also creating a need for more communities to be built, children that will need schools built and supported, garbage that will need to be trucked somewhere and on and on with the government spending on things other than supporting those retired folks. It’s not like the younger generation is not costing us money.
The principle is the same without social security. As some of us hope that we are not the pinnacle of human achievement we shall continue to propagate the race.
I was thinking, only here at the Dope could a rant about bad parenting, a topic people usually love to pile on to, turn into a discussion of the legitimacy and viability of the Social Security system!
Apparently it’s ok to be a clueless parent because your children will grow up to pay into the social security system. I think that was the message anyway! :dubious:
