iZombie Season 2 (spoilers as it airs)

I am one day behind so I have not yet seen the season 2 premiere last night. iZombie, however, was one of the best shows to premiere last year.

Anyone seen it yet? Thoughts?

iZombie was a DVR casualty of the WNBA Finals. I look forward to watching later tonight, on the CW website.

I was super excited it was on, but it didn’t hold my attention at all.

Crazy crazy twists at the end! So has red head zombie killer woman been planning to infiltrate Liv’s life for a while to try to exterminate the zombie problem? And very brilliant way to turn Blaine into hired help, Liv.

Major getting constantly shit on gets kinda old to be honest.

Blaine’s dad is T-Bag? Cool.

S1 Babineaux often seemed useless – like he was just there to say he was a cop, with Liv providing much of the insight and, honestly, Chakrabarti doing the rest. S2 Babineaux actually seems to be good at what he does. (I mean, I get that the whole point pretty much has to be that he’d fail without Liv doing the heavy lifting – but at least now he’s missing it closer, if you see where I’m going with this.)

It’s been years since I’ve watched an episode of Prison Break and yet every time I see him, I call him Tbag too. Like I just rewatched Heroes and he shows up in the last season and the whole time was “Oh, there’s T-bag.” Old Law and Order reruns? “There’s Tbag.” He’s in a remarkable number of things and sometimes I can remember his real name, but 99.99% of the time, he’s Tbag.

Seriously. This character is getting a crazy beat-down from life on the show, really starting with his fiancee dumping him with no explanation in the pilot.

Did anyone notice the name of the funeral parlor Blaine runs? “Shady Plots”.

The one that really gets me is the old Star Trek TNG episode where he shows up as the guy Troi is supposed to marry.

And of course, there was an episode of Breakout Kings, where he actually WAS playing T-Bag again.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was one of the best shows, but I recently binge-watched the first season on Netflix, and I think it’s a cute show with a novel zom-com premise and a cute lead actress. I like the comic book stylization, and generally like the pop-cultural banter (though it occasionally makes me cringe a little). I dislike the black detective dude - just not a very interesting character. But overall, it’s very watchable. I probably won’t see any of this 2nd season 'til that gets put on Netflix though.

I love the show, but here’s a nitpick. Regarding the thing at the end of last season/start of this season where her family is mad because she wouldn’t give her brother blood, why didn’t she just say she had some condition that would make her unable to donate blood? She should know that sort of stuff, being that she’s a doctor and all. And technically it’s true, even if she’d have to lie about the details of what her specific condition is.

I loved the frat bro episode. This show does such a good job of mixing various types of fun. Sure there’s an intriguing overarching mythology and meaningful relationships between characters, but you also have Rose McIver make frat boy jokes and wearing crime scene tape.
I agree that that it was a bit implausible that Liv couldn’t come up with some plausible explanation for the blood donation thing.

I thought it was funny when Liv quoted the Veronica Mars theme song when that girl was going through the closet with her.

This one was my favorite episode of the season so far. The first one to really grab and hold my attention.

I came here to say that. “A long time ago we used to be friends”

Yes, she looked good in crime tape.

As for the blood donation, yes she could come up with something but remember her mother is a doctor too. "“You don’t have the signs for Babesiosis”
No sure she could get away with “Medically I can’t donate, it is private” because then her mother would think drugs anyway. Again I agree it could have been handled better.

Hope we see more of Peyton (take that anyway you want)

Brian

What, her mom wouldn’t buy that she had hep or the clap or something?

So…

Is zombie-ism in this universe only communicable through blood, or is it like chicken pox, and someone who’s been zombie-fied and subsequently cured now becomes immune?

Speaking of which …

I only watch iZombie online, because I don’t have cable (and don’t own a television), so I watch the show on the CW site. And those of you who don’t watch online may not be aware of “CW Seed”, which seems to be kind of an online-only “side project” of The CW.

The first thing I noticed about CW Seed was that they have the entire run of the Flash series from the 1990s. I thought, “Oh, cool, the new Flash show has the actor who played The Flash in the 1990s playing Barry’s father on the new show, and now they have the rights to the old Flash show.”

Then I watched the new animated “Vixen” series, based on the DC character (and including voice acting from the same actors who appear on “Arrow” and “The Flash”. (And heard one of the best lines I’ve ever heard from an American animated series, where “Vixen” tells her adoptive father about her recent job interview: “He said he’d give me a job if I’d give him one.” Did I just hear that?)

Anyway, thanks to CW Seed, I noticed this other show called, “Hellcats”. I watched the first episode and thought, “Okay, this is ‘GLEE’, with college cheerleaders instead of high school singers.” It took me until the second episode to realize that the main character looked awfully familiar.

Aly Michalka

I’m only up to Episode 5, (of the first season, and it looks like the show only lasted one season), but I’m enjoying it. Aly Michalka is actually a very capable lead actress.

And this is interesting: in iZombie, Peyton is, what, an assistant prosecutor? In Hellcats, she’s a pre-law student. And it turns out that the actress is also a talented musician and singer. Like I said, I’m only up through Ep.5, but the ending of that episode left me in tears … she brought her guitar to an interview with a prisoner, and let him play her guitar, and sang harmony with him on The Box Top’s “The Letter” (One of my favorite 1960s videos, just because they had to lip-sync on TV like everybody else back then, and they had fun with it)

Here’s the Hellcats scene:

And, yeah, that probably won't leave you in tears just from watching that YouTube clip. It was the storyline that led up to that scene that did it.

I really enjoyed hearing Rose McIver sing in the country singer episode of iZombie. Here’s hoping that “Peyton” gets a chance to sing in a future episode, because she’s really good.

And … holy crap, I’m getting old, because I didn’t realize just how young Aly is. She was born in fucking 1989, five years after I graduated from high school.
