No, I decided that I liked it after i saw it for the third time and suddenly noticed the “Sale Ends Yesterday” banner. That really says it all, with humor.
Now, *that *I would buy.
Slightly off topic, but I found this comment somewhat humorous because I’m not sure JCP even knows who they’re competing with. They are restructuring their price schemes to apparently emulate Wal-Mart, which seems silly for a mall store.
It strikes me as being the worst way to announce a new policy since the McDonald’s Arch Deluxe ads.
It looks like they’re going for an “everyday low prices” model like Wal-Mart. But this isn’t the way to do it.
What? What the hell does yelling “fire” or “rape” have to do with this commercial?
I don’t like the pig commercials. There is always someone within earshot who feels the need to scream “weeeeeeeeeee!” right along with that stupid pig.
Those of us in the know have always recognized it as Jacques Pennay. ![]()
The screaming ads for that can only be shown on cable.
The linked ad is not anymore annoying than light beer commercials.
Never saw the commercial until just now (and watched it with the sound off). It does look like it has a fairly high annoyance potential, but still – meh. Fast forward or hit mute.
JCP has a better selection of men’s big & tall clothing than most stores, which is why I go there occasionally. This commercial isn’t nearly enough to influence my shopping choices in either direction.
Okay…I might be wired differently or, maybe knowing what the ad was for before I saw it made a difference or, maybe turning the volume way down before I watched it made a difference, but I thought it was funny. That said, it’s not an ad I’d watch again. Once was enough.
I’m not going to boycott JC Penney, but yes the ad is extremely annoying.
No, not really. My remote has a functioning mute button and lucky for me my wife and pets are not so fragile that screaming on the TV scares them. And, “influential media forum?” You must be joking .
Shhhh… “They” don’t know that…
Ugh - hate that commercial. Its revived my husband’s claim that we need to purchase a sheet of lexan to hang in front of the tv so we can chuck things at it without breaking anything nice. But when that one comes on, its a scramble for the remote to change the channel.
I kinda like JCP, they generally carry the simple button down shirts I like to wear to work. But since I hate to shop, I haven’t been there in ages. They wouldn’t notice if I boycotted.
So, JC Penney hired Ron Johnson a few months back. He’s most famous for launching and implementing the Apple Retail stores.
This is part of his strategy of shaking things up and getting JCP back on track. We’ll see it if works.
This too shall pass.
Actually, I’m sympathetic to the concept. I hate all the sales at Safeway supermarket. They have me on their club card and web site and email and real mailer and they have some sales that are 4-day, some that are 2-day, some that are 10-day … Arghhh!
I just watched the ad linked in the OP, and it doesn’t say anything about a new pricing plan. All it says at the end is “Enough is enough” and the date 2/1/2012, plus the JC Penney Facebook URL. So it doesn’t even do what it’s purporting to do. It’s a terrible ad.
I think this is really going to be something interesting to watch,.
It just came on again. My cat, enjoying an early supper in the kitchen, froze and looked toward the living room for several seconds before returning to the job at hand.
Ellen DeGeneres is their new spokesperson, and is using her daily show to shill for them.
