J C Penney's "Screaming" ad -- Want to boycott?

There never were “days of “The customer is always right””, it’s a myth and always has been. Also, you have always had to heed the warning of caveat emptor or ‘buyer beware’.

You must not remember the absolute shitfit people threw when apple dropped the price of the firstgen iphone from 600 to 400. It was like they revealed the things were powered on the blood of christian babies.

But…but… it features Mozart’s* Requiem in D Minor*, the Dies Irae segment. I just sort of blocked out the screaming in order to hear the singing.

If I ever shopped at JC Penny, I would stop, just because of this ad. But I’m not even sure where the nearest one is.

It appears that they’ve already started airing a shorter version of the ad…maybe it will go away soon.

Has anyone seen the new ad with the dog jumping through the hoop and the snoozing old man? It’s like they said “you just couldn’t handle our marketing, so we will make fun of you by making the blandest, cutest, most inoffensive commercial we can think of.”

Mozart’s Requiem is a nice change from the constant Orff’s Carmina Burana that so many commercials use. I am amused by the effect of the screaming along with the Dies Irae. Really punches up the meaning of the words “Day of Wrath” - and then at the end there’s a quick cut to a snippet of the “Lachrymosa”. I think it’s really funny having a banner pointing out that the huge sale was “Yesterday”. My opinion of the ad is that it’s amusing and attention-getting. The more I see the ad, the more I try to spot little things in it that I may have missed on previous viewings. I don’t think commercials should be realistic, so it doesn’t bother me that the people are freaking out disproportionately to the “horror” of finding something is marked down after you bought it elsewhere.

I haven’t been inside a JC Penney in 20 or 30 years. Not sure that the ad will get me to go shopping there, but at least it’s got me thinking about it.

The screaming ad always had an expiration date of February 1st. This new ad was likely planned from the start.

The annoying ad has stopped! The boycott worked! Now you can all shop at JCP, basking in the pride of your grassroots power!

P.S. – Pay no attention to [del]Justin_Bailey[/del] the man behind the curtain.
