I disagree. The extreme fringe can move the moderate mainstream. Complete whackos like Chick and Phelps may never get any real following for their views but they can make people like Falwell and Robertson appear as acceptable moderates.
I have to agree with you. There have been preachers I’ve caught myself saying “Well, at least they aren’t as bad as Chick.”
So God sent the Evans’ to hell to save the bad pastor’s soul?
I know Jack Chick’s denomination (Independent Baptist) are considered to be so conservative that they “make Southern Baptists (Falwell, Robertson, and Rick Warren’s denomination) look like liberals”. Also what about Billy Graham? Is he an acceptable “moderate”, an outright fanatic like Phelps, or slightly less worse Falwell and Robertson types?
Any supposed Christian who’s more concerned about who’s going to Hell than who’s going to Heaven is not a real Christian as far as I’m concerned.
Interesting how after two near-… , no, forget that, after two *complete-*death experiences:rolleyes:, Mr. Evans still did NOT think, “uh-oh, time to bypass this dingdong preacher and address the Big JC directly for a deathbed conversion”. Instead he feels already damned and goes down cursing, thus making sure. Consistent, of course, with the Chickworld premise that NO “mainline Christian” has ever heard of ANY of the basic building blocks of their faith discussed.
As to the “how can he make up for it” part – well, he doesn’t, that’s part of deal with Christian salvation, isn’t it? That no matter how many or heinous your sins, Jesus, not you, will pick up that tab,** if** you really repent and turn to him. Of course, in Chickworld the converse of that is that no matter how trivial or involuntary your failings are, even if you already believe in Jesus but just not exactly the “right” way, the default setting is a full-on swim in the Lake o’ Fire, so strictly speaking they were already screwed anyway.
Well according to most Evangelicals (including me) it’s either one or the other.
Well, I interpreted that as some people seem to work forever on converting people, but don’t do anything to help those converts after they come in.
I’d explain more, but I think I’d be going into GD territory, as people would claim I was witnessing.
But there’s some Evangelicals who will be disappointed if they get to Heaven and find out that God forgave everyone and nobody went to Hell. For these people, the whole point of Christianity is that it makes them better than non-Christians.
Well being saved’s the main point-you could still improve certainly but you’re in the “safe” zone. Plus Jack Chick does tell people what to do after they convert in his tracts (see the back right after the “convert” section).
