And IIRC, they slept on the floor so they couldn’t be shot through the windows.
Hey, it’s Friday. You have all weekend.

That’s what I thought as well.
If you’re in a court then, sure, you should assume that the guy is innocent.
We’re not in a court and neither are Trump’s followers. Unless you’ve got some reason to think that Trump believed everyone in DC to have been a loving, kindly, fluffy bunny of a person, the safe assumption would be that he believed in their proclivity for violence just as much as everyone else.
They committed violence and he said that 1) he loved them for it and 2) that the ones who saw the violence all deserved it.
There’s no real question that Trump expected violence. Starting from a point of thinking otherwise, or thinking that anyone on either side of the aisle really believes otherwise, is being unrealistic. Trump’s followers all already think that he wanted and encouraged violence. He was shouting in support, watching his TV, and they were, too. He’s their President. They want the shit torn down.
The argument that you need to make isn’t that Trump was derelict in his duty, it’s that the framers expect a unified nation, under the Constitution, that that’s our heritage and what it means to be a citizen of this country, and that anyone opposed to that is a blight to the flag. If you can’t make that argument, then you can’t sell why Trump was wrong.
After last night I can see this whole committee being a launching point for the Republicans to have a Pence and Cheney ticket to challenge the MAGA factions. Pence can clearly show that he respects the office and is a responsible man that true (old school) republicans can trust, one that can bring the economy back from the brink. Cheney has shown that she is a national force to be reckoned with and since she has no chance of being reelected in Wyoming she might as well make a run for president. Just by the nature of their grievances with Trump they can effectively knock him out of the race (just show some outtakes of Trump being a snake).
Then they can turn their attention to whoever takes up the MAGA mantel and question their sanity of following in his footsteps. What did you do on 1/6 and after to defend democracy? It would split the party wide open, but if played right they could reunite it. That’s a fear worthy of another thread.
Whether she was on the side of right, or not, I’d be surprised if anyone will touch Cheney for several years.
She might still have a good career ahead, but she’ll need to disappear from the limelight for a while. The most that a President Pence might have to do with her is, in his fifth year of Presidency, bring her on as the Secretary of State or something.
She can’t go Democrat, or she’ll look like she sold out Trump for position on the other side of the aisle. She’s stuck as a Republican and needs to wait for the Republicans to move on a bit.
Now I wonder what he thinks a “wrestling mat” is.
As this is off topic I have started another thread.
As I was saying before, the reason you call it a dereliction of duty is so that he can’t defend himself by saying he is immune from prosecution for actions he took in his role as President. His actions were rather in opposition to that role.
Maybe he’s been talking to Jim Jordan…
Thank you. I really appreciate it.
Same here as to not having seen The Godfather, and thinking it was a wrestling term. (Not something out of character for the Trumps.)
Though it being a reference to them being a crime family is even more in character.
I heard an anti-Trump Republican on the radio this morning. She hates Pence for carrying water for Trump all those years, and although he finally did the right thing on 1/6, he is a coward for refusing to testify. He’s a coward and a hypocrite. She’d never vote for Pence (unless he was running against Biden, and then she’d have to hold her nose and vote for him )
I don’t think there is any love for Pence in or out of the MAGA camp.
What stood out to me was not only that he would refuse to say the election is over, but he also refused to say that people “broke the law” more than once.
It reminded me of his off-the-rails press conference a few days after Charlottesville, particularly where reporters were asking him to denounce white supremacy, and his response was essentially “I’ve already said that once, you’re not going to make me say it again!”
You mean “Gym” Jordan, don’t you?
Now that the final episode of season one if done, the thing I found conspicuously missing is any discussion about the Jan 5th Trump hotel meeting. For a while that seemed like is was going to be the smoking gun, but I guess it didn’t pan out?
I noticed her right away. It’s like she’s giving Matthews the hairy eyeball.
I thought she might be a body guard the way she just projected that intense stare.
I didn’t interpret it as malevolent, and caught a flicker of a smile at one concluding statement.
fun clip of how those at the hearing reacted to “run hawley, run”.
I think I heard the same person. In other words, she will never vote for Pence unless the other option is a reasonable, sane democrat. Or one who beat your God Trump. Your colors are showing dear.
