Jay and Silent Bob... No spoilers, please.

I avoided reading the last thread about this movie, because there were some spoilers in it. Since I’m going back to Canada soon, I’m now looking into what movies I ought to see when I get home.

So, what’s the verdict on J&SB? Good? Bad? Ugly? Other (please specify)? Can anyone deliver something of a critique, or critical analysis of the movie without spoiling it?

Thank you very much.

You can check out my review of the movie here. It’s relatively spoiler-free (nothing here that you didn’t know from the trailers) but, being such, isn’t as in depth as you may want it to be. (It’s also the first review I wrote in years, so it can also be described as indescribably vague and poorly written.)

Basically, my verdict came down to whether or not you are a Kevin Smith fan (or at least saw the other “Jersey” movies). If so, then you will probably love this movie. If not, then maybe not so much.

There is still a great deal of “fanboy” humor related to other movies (especially Star Wars), comics, Internet culture, and various social issues, but the preponderence of in-jokes included for the Kevin Smith fans will probably alienate those who haven’t seen KS’s earlier films. (They may also be totally repulsed by Jay, possibly the most moronic moron ever written, with the possible exceptions of Beevis and Butthead.)

Personlly, I just didn’t like Will Farrell’s character. Then again, I don’t really like Will Farrell, so I could be biased.

Thanks. Since I’m a pretty big fan of Clerks, I guess I might be able to enjoy the flick.

I’ve seen nearly all of Kevin Smith’s other films, whereas my husband hasn’t. We both laughed throughout the film. I got more of the references and had more to admire. My husband just laughed because he was ready for some dumb humor after the events of the two weeks prior.

I think you’ll get a kick out of it.

Do you live near me? I just sorted all the canadian money out of our loose change, and good lord there was a lot of it.

I think the maximum enjoyment level is being a big fan of Smith, but not hardcore. The time line and continuity of the Jersey series is pretty much demolished in Strike Back. If that doesn’t bother you, then you’ll enjoy it just fine.

Stupid, but in a good way.

One might assume that since the OP has declared himself, “a pretty big fan of Clerks”, he is a fan of Kevin Smith in general. If this is in fact the case, I would offer this caveat …

Jay and Silent Bob is a bit of a step back. Well not a “step back”, but this is definitely closer to Mallrats than it is to Chasing Amy or Dogma.

No spoilers, but, I found that in spots in this movie Smith was trying to make fun of Hollywood, but in the process, came off a lame himself. The big finale on the set of the “Movie in the Movie” I thought was big time lame. But the rest of the movie was gold.

It is definitely enhanced by knowing the View Askew Universe.

I’m telling you, it’s all because of Will Farrell…

You’re right, KKBattousai, it’s Will Farrell. That man sucks the vitality out of everything he touches.

I loved the movie (except for Will Farrell).
