Just saw the movie tonight. Wasn’t overly impressed. It was certainly on par with most of Kevin Smith’s latest, though it was certainly no Clerks.
Personal favorite moments of the movie:
Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season
Lampooning of Internet culture, IE: The internet is basically a way for people to bash movies, trade porn, and slander anonymously.
But my favorite moment comes at the end when they use their money to travel around and beat small children. Which is really cruel, and really, really funny in the context of the movie.
Many big laughs, but some rather weak story-telling.
A rather flawed movie that was obviously made for die-hard Smith fans , with in-jokes constantly referencing his previous work.
I’m still hoping for a return to a more stripped down Clerks-ish movie from Smith.
Maybe next time…
Weak storytelling? Since when does one go to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back for storytelling? If I were to go see Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, I shouldn’t expect dick jokes, should I?
The… no, let me start again. THE DUMBEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER
E V E R
SEEN.
Hated it. I guess what disappointed me the most was that I could figure out what was going to be said about a minute before the line was delivered. The “Hunting Season” climax was so predictable. The only parts I truly enjoyed were the Scooby Doo scene and Chris Rock’s character’s bitching, bitching, bitching.
I totally second that. I thought JASBSB was the most horrible and stupid film I’ve ever seen. And I like Kevin Smith movies! I was almost embarrassed for the actors at some parts because the jokes were so frickin’ predictable. The only time I actually laughed was during the Scooby Doo bit. Everything else was just painful and stupid.
I would honestly not be surprised if this film ruined Kevin Smith’s career.
You have to remember that this is a movie which features talking monkeys* and a talking dog! Yeah, it wasn’t as good as “Clerks” or “Dogma,” but it was better than some other movies I’ve seen of late. (Plus, ya gotta love it when Jay tried to perform oral sex on Carrie Fisher!)
*Reference to a Fox exec’s explaination as to why the ending of “Planet of the Apes” made no sense.
It wasn’t the best, but it was OK. I liked all the guest appearances. Judd Nelson was almost unrecognizable (I identifed him by the nostrils). I also enjoyed all the inside jokes and the Good Will Hunting scene was hilarious. Ben and Matt picking on each other’s movies was just too much!
Oh, and I want to be the mother of Jay’s children!
I’ll be the first to chime in and say I absolutely loved the movie. Especially the scenes mentioned above. “We’re taking orders from a guy in a neckerchief?”
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were great. Especially their bickering about each other’s movie careers. Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek were a riot. Will Ferrell was actually pretty decent, even though I usually can’t tolerate him for longer than the length of an SNL skit (note: I didn’t say he was great, just OK).
Here’s a question: I read in a couple of different places that all the main characters from the previous movies made an appearance in J&SBSB. Linda Fiorentino is mentioned as the only exception. So where was Salma Hayek? And Alanis Morrisette? Mind you, it’s not necessarily a bad thing that they weren’t in the picture :).
Ah, I see that you’re one of those people who leaves before the end of the credits. Alanis was in the movie.
And a fairly funny movie it was too. Definitely a guilty pleasure. The Affleck/Damon bit and what J&SB do at the end were worth the price of admission for me.
I’d bet that Salma Heyek was too busy filming the movie about Frida Kahlo to participate. I don’t think the girl who screws the dead guy in Clerks was in it either.
