Jeff George and Elizabeth Taylor

Okay, we know that the Redskins have cut Jeff George. We can be pretty confident, hyowever, that he’ll be starting for another team before this season ends. The question is… why?

It’s the same question I’ll ask when the next guy gets down on one knee and asks Liz Taylor, “Will you marry me?”

I mean, how many times can ANYONE screw up before the rest of the world catches on that dealing with him/her just isn’t worth it?

No matter how many times Liz Taylor gets divorced, there always seems to be SOME idiot who says, “But look at those violet eyes… I LOVE her. THIS time, it will be different!”

No matter how badly Jeff George plays, no matter how badly he ruins team chemistry, no matter how how many teams he runs into the ground, SOME coach or owner will look at him and sigh, “What an arm! What a physique… I LOVE him! I MUST have him! And THIS time, it will be different! If we treat him right, he’ll turn into a team player and we’ll be a dynasty!”

It’s the same mentality that led the World Bank to look at Robert McNamara, and say, “He built the Edsel… he masterminded American policy in Viet Nam… everything he touches turns to manure. Swoon! We LOVE him!”

Well put!

Well…George has shown he knows how to play NFL quarterback and there aren’t that many out there…Someone will pick him up hoping the “chemistry” on his team will be bettter.

It’s the arm and the experience…plus his his big season with the Vikes (look at the receivers!).

And the fact that there are more teams than there are decent starting quarterbacks…but yeah, you’re right. He couldn’t read a defence with a teleprompter.

CFL’s where the fun is!

Astorian, that was one of your best OP’s ever! The comparison of Liz and Jeff are classic! I can’t add to it!

In fact, he argued against the car. Barry Goldwater was the first to misuse Mc Namara’s former Ford connection by calling Mc Namara “the human Edsel” and the image stuck.

Seeing the success that American Motors, Volkswagen, and
(to a lesser extent) Studebaker were making in smaller cars,
Mc Namara came up with the Falcon, which sold 4 times the number of units in its first year that Edsel sold in 3 years.

He should have never left the car business. He proved to be a complete screw-up at everything else he tried.
Like your Jeff George/Liz Taylor observations, though.
