Jell-O 1-2-3

The recent Jell-O thread made me get nostalgic again for Jell-O 1-2-3. I’ve spent the past year trying to find some in vain. Is it still available anywhere? Does anyone know where I could get some?

To the best of my knowledge, Jello 1-2-3 hasn’t been sold for decades.

In the original product, the Jello settled into three layers of differing consistancy–i.e. a bottom layer of regular Jello, and above that two layers that were progressively lighter and more airy. My bother sometimes makes what might be called “Jello 1-2”, i.e. it has top and bottom layers. He makes the airy layer by whipping Jello while cooling it on ice–a recipe that apparently goes back to the 1940’s, if not older.

Neat! Now someone tell me how to make the 3 part and I’m in business!

I always thought one of the layers was made by whipping Jello and whipped cream (OK, realistically probably Cool Whip) together. Don’t know if that was before/during/after the Jello cooled though.

A quick Google search under “jello 1-2-3” turned up 2 recipes for it.
