Does anyone play NationStates?

Here’s my country:

I’m Venetoland. You need to take care of your poor

I didn’t even know that was still around. I played it, I think, in 2003. If I remember my country correctly, it was “The People’s Democratic Republic of Happiness.”

I used to, years ago. I prided myself in having the #1 Least Educated nation in the world. Around a billion rock stupid people living under my authoritarian theocracy. It was funny because people would actually message me after the ranking would publish and say “Haha, your people are the stupidest, you suck!” and apparently not realize that it was a conscious decision that involved planning around maintaining my terrible educational standards.

Eventually though I idled too long and lost my nation. I got it back once but by then the world had gone on too long without me and I had no chance of competing with the new mega-nations.

The Commonwealth of Madelinia is a fledgling, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The minute government, or what there is of one, juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Education, and Social Welfare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 8%. A large private sector is led by the Gambling industry, followed by Door-to-door Insurance Sales and Beef-Based Agriculture.

Crime is a problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Madelinia’s national animal is the Tickle Tiger, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Zilla.

ETA: I love the fact that two out of the three biggest industries in my country are basically gambling. Actually, if you consider cardiovascular health, all three are.

Well a lot of the issues tend to have ridiculous consequences.

I remember NationStates. Fun, but weird.

Please tell me you ran it like North Korea.

What? No. North Koreans are unhappy with their lot. My citizens, on the other hand, greatly enjoyed not having any rights, or healthcare, or long lives. They disdain the freedom that North Koreans possess.

I remember playing that religiously for a few months back in 2003. I wonder if my countries are still around. If I remember correctly, they had a policy of deactivating abandoned countries, but never deleting them.

Foxtrot-If you return, your nation will be in the Lazarus region.

I actually was in the Balder region.

I’m surprised my nations are still there. I give you Volt and Silveria.

I played it twice, each time for a relatively time, but didn’t find it terribly engaging either time and let it drop. I’d tried to play as a liberal democrat (lowercase “d”) each time and my countries did OK, I guess.

I’ve resurrected The Cement Blights of Miazia. I like to think book publishing exists at all because of the need of toilet paper.

I used to play,I was The Hamlet of MadTheSwine.Really enjoyed the book BTW.

I have officially restored the United Socialist States of Lendervedder. Beware puny nations of Lazurus. I have a peninsula that is shaped like a giant wang.

I remember playing that game until my nation was ridiculously utopian. Is that common, or was I just really really good at it?

OK, I am game  I introduce to you the glorious new nation of Froxnotopia!

I’ve gotten back into this by starting up a crazy nation, which is inspired by my player kingdom in Mount and Blade, and a normal nation that is my attempt to answer the issues honestly.

Anyway, I saw a funny issue in my crazy nation ( today

I think the economy will survive without pizza delivery, but maybe they eat pizza every night or something :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think the writer(s) of the Issue were thinking of pizza delivery. It makes a lot more sense with Car Manufacturing or something like that.
