Jeopardy Online Test Discussion

I got an invitation. I’ll be in D.C. on May 27.

Me, too! Second try. crosses fingers

Congrats, Sigmagirl and jayjay. (And to KittenKat, since I didn’t say so earlier.)

So, just to help prepare, what happens at these tryouts? From what I’ve heard, there’s a mock game with two other hopefuls (do you have to win that to be considered?) and an interview to find out if you’re interesting enough to chat for 20 seconds. Anything else?

Thank you!

From what I can remember from two years ago, you go to the audition site (usually a hotel conference room) and sign in. They then take a quick mug shot of you and you fill out paperwork (consent forms, etc). Then they gather everyone in the conference room and they have a little orientation, explaining the way the auditions work and how the game is played. There’s a question and answer session, then they go through about a half-hour of game questions, which is open to everyone (you raise your hand to answer).

Then they do the mock games. Three players, just like the show, and you get to use the buzzers (it’s a good experience to get a feel for the buzzers, their responsiveness, and your timing). They only play 10 answers or so for each group. They do a simulation of the in-show mini-interviews for everyone, too.

Then once they run everyone through the mock game, the audition is over. You go home and wait up nights waiting for the call (which never came for me the first time…and I’m hardly on the extreme end of the curve. There were people who’d auditioned five or more times when I did it in Philly).

First, congratulations to Sigmagirl and jayjay!

That’s pretty much how I remember it from three years ago as well. The only thing we did that you left out was a written fifty-question test, similar to the online test.

:smack:

That’s right! I forgot about that.

There’s another fifty-question test? I thought the online test already weeded people out. Or is this their way to confirm we didn’t have all our smart friends feeding us answers for the online test?

Yes. I know someone who won two nights, and she confirms that it is to make sure you didn’t cheat online.

ETA: And thanks, KittenKat! You, too, and jayjay!

I have an invite, too! I’ll be in DC on May 28th!

I’m hoping I’ll either be able to take the train and get there in time, or that it’s not actually in the city…I hate driving in DC.

I’ll be at the tryout in Charlotte on April 29th. Anybody else?

I got invited to Kansas City for June 25.

Not sure if I’ll be able to attend though :frowning:

If you can possibly manage it, go. If you can get over the nerves and pressure of trying to ace it (or is that just me) and enjoy it for what it is, it’s a lot of fun.

And mine went pretty well. I enjoyed the interview part, and I looked fabulous. I haven’t gotten The Call yet, but I think I’ve got a shot.

How many people were there? How long did the whole thing take, beginning to end? We have to drive back from DC right after mine; have to be at work the next day.

The email says it begins at 11:30 and lasts 2-2 1/2 hours, so it should be over by 1PM.

I think I’m going to drive to one of the suburban metro stations and take the train into the city. I hate driving in DC.

We’re spending the night at a hotel nearby and either taking the hotel shuttle or taxi to the hotel where the auditions are. The $459 a night there is a little over the norm for us.

Hopefully there won’t be any math questions.

:stuck_out_tongue:

I thought it was May 27th? Or are they there for maybe a couple of days?
