There have been a couple curlers on the show. I find myself hoping they do well.
I prefer contestants that don’t look like they are there to “build their brand”, or look like they are trying too hard to be noticed.
Exactly.
Correct, but as already noted, he failed to repeat as champion. He finished in second place with $2,793.
But he won $3000 for finishing second, which was more than he won for finishing first the previous day.
It was nice to see all four people on stage wearing neckties today.
…I guess???
(I don’t think that lady’s outfit is going to start a trend, but then I’m been wrong before…)
We also root for anyone who shares either of our respective first names.
Surprised only one of them got tonight’s (6/30) Final Jeopardy. I thought it was a gimme.
Hehe, I was at band practice, but I would have missed it.

Agreed. I got it immediately. And I was very surprised when the defending champ missed it, given how knowledgeable he’s shown himself to be.
The World Cup game got boring, so I switched over to watch the last half of the 7/2 Jeopardy episode.
Three good players, and one helluva game.
And a triple miss on FJ!
I liked the clue that wanted the name of the large body of water off the Texas coast. The contestant (correctly) said “Gulf of Mexico”. And Ken never “corrected” him.
I noticed that too. Good.
I also noticed it. I smiled.
Monday’s game:
Scores going into final: 38.8K, 1400, -2400. Yawn.
At least they had another “Gulf of MEXICO” clue. Thank you, J!
Tuesday’s game had a weird bet.
Leader has 19200 to 7800 and 7000. There is 3000 left on the board. She gets the (last, IIRC) DD and bets … $10000! Yes she got the correct answer, but what a stupid bet. It was a guaranteed runaway. If she’d have not got it, she’d be only 1400 in front.
The next day she doubles down and explains to Ken that she made such a big bet because “there are so few women champions, and I wanted to guarantee one.” Well, not with that kind of betting!
Did y’all see yesterday’s game? Man, I thought Dean had it in the bag after those daily doubles, but Matthew got down to business! I was cheering like a sportsball fan!
Did y’all see yesterday’s game?
One of the better comebacks I’ve ever witnessed. Dean went from $6k to $24k in back-to-back DDs, and at that point Matthew had less than $8k. But he went on an unbelievable streak to take the lead going into FJ, and he was the only one who answered correctly. Extremely impressive debut.
It was a very good game. That guy turned on the afterburners and never looked back.
I protest, the $200 Tolkien clue was:
Meaning “Foe-hammer”, Glamdring was the name of an elven sword wielded by this magical man
Gandalf is a Maia – though he took the form of a man.
I also am bit miffed at the $600 clue:
In the spoof movie “Fackham Hall”, Tolkien is inspired when a wife uses this 2-word endearment for her husband
One can make a guess, but I have never even heard of “Fackham Hall”
