First of all, sorry tomndebb and everyone else. Like i said i am new to SDMB and i didn’t carefully read the rules. So i did not know i should not be copy-pasting large amounts of my text. I did not see a problem with it and as tomndebb quoted me, i said i had a lot of material, research, commentary and quotes. I sincerely thought i could use it here. I didn’t just copy-paste it all but made some selections, cuts and changes in the order. That would have become clear in the other 4 parts i have. (but will not post)

Any way, my mistake, i feel quite the silly noob now.

My reasons for starting this post are still the same and i don’t mind continuing. I could do that by posting all bible verses related to this topic and let the bible explain the bible.

But am i allowed to quote and copy-paste the actual text in the bible? (not my own words) Or am i only allowed to post the chapters and verses so people can look it up in their own bible?

If there is somebody, anybody that wants to see my arguments(bible verses) on this question i’ll post the bible verses. Otherwise i’ll take Tom’s advice and forget about it. It’s Sunday and i’ve got football at 3 o’çlock. So far it doesn’t look like there’s much interest debating this by bible and historical facts.
Sincerely sorry if i wasted anyone’s time or upset anyone.

Ruben
PS I wouldn’t want somebody to miss out on a bet so yes, i am one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. (for almost 1 year now) Please think of me when you collect your winnings.

PPS tomndebb, i did not copy from the website but used my own personal digital library, 2012 edition, issued to me for personal **witnessing **use wich includes…posting, printing, verbally quoting etc, etc. This is what we do all over the world in 600 languages. (or more)

Electric Boogaloo.

Don’t you see a little contradiction there?
Also any answers to points raised by ‘your’ witnessing also come pre-packaged, don’t they?

The breakdance battle for your soul! *

I had a rough night last night and I’m having trouble discerning what’s up for debate here. I didn’t read the last thread, so perhaps you put it out in that one. I’m guessing it has something to do with historical reliability of the Bible?

It seems to be just “witnessing” to me.

I think that’s a terrific idea, and suggest you start with Deuteronomy 13.

You’re a noob in more ways then one -

First off - you did not post anything of your own - nor did you give it any proper attributions - you posted it as your own work.

Try using your own words - and maybe you should re-read the ‘agreements’ at the front of the Watchtower CD - you know, the introductory letter and the license agreement? (hint - there under the ‘help’ section) -

[QUOTE=WATCHTOWER CD License Agreement - bolding mine]

  1. RESTRICTIONS ON USE. You may not do any of the following: Sell the Product, the SOFTWARE, or the DATA; post all or any portion of the SOFTWARE or the DATA on the Internet or on any other electronic network; copy, print, or excerpt from the DATA for the purpose of distributing books, booklets, or any other printed or electronic compilations; print for general distribution an entire Watch Tower magazine, brochure, pamphlet, or book from the DATA; duplicate for distribution all or any portion of the SOFTWARE on any kind of compact disc or other duplicating device; alter the SOFTWARE; reverse engineer, reverse assemble, reverse compile, disassemble, or decompile the SOFTWARE; sublicense or lease the SOFTWARE; use the SOFTWARE with other access programs; use or call subroutines (.DLL routines) provided by the SOFTWARE to create new or derivative works, including utilities; remove or obscure Watch Tower’s copyright and/or trademark notices; or use the SOFTWARE for any commercial purpose.

YOUR USE OF WATCHTOWER LIBRARY
1. What constitutes proper use? Watchtower Library has been designed for your personal use. Hence, you may copy, print, or excerpt from the data for your personal use. But you may not distribute the program or large sections of the data to others who do not own Watchtower Library on CD-ROM. Do not sell Watchtower Library or put the program or data on the Internet or any electronic network.
2. Who may have a copy of Watchtower Library? Watchtower Library is a research tool for Jehovah’s Witnesses, not for the public or for institutions such as schools or libraries.

I always find it comical that an organization so ‘ready’ to ‘share’ the truth puts such limits on who can use their works - but, since in the end they are a publishing company out to make money - it makes sense.

Secondly, they really don’t want intelligent people able to go thru the information and point out all the changes and flip flops over the years - or the outright lies.

I’d also like you to rethink ‘issued to you’ - you mean you purchased it, right?

Think of the SDMB as a big conversation (or venue for conversations). What you did was the equivalent of walking up to a group of people, handing out a several-page photocopied document, and saying, “Here, read this.”

A word of advice: With some exceptions, the longer and more wall-of-text-y you make your post, the less likely people will read it and engage you on it. If you have more than a couple of brief excerpts to refer to, I’d suggest merely citing chapters and verses, or maybe linking to the text online.

His last thread didn’t last too long-he tried to post a five part lecture, one part every couple of days, and he wasn’t going to allow discusssion until he finished his cut and paste job ten days later.

Ultimately, just using Bible verses will accomplish nothing. The wonderful thing about the Bible is that it will support just about any view if you pick the right verses.

By his own admission, he’s a recent convert to the JW cult/sect - he won’t be able to articulate any argument for/against anything biblical without parroting the WT literature.

So he’s going to repeat what he believes-who doesn’t?

What I meant was that he won’t be able to articulate it ‘with his own words’ - he will cut/paste WT literature on it - as he has already shown.

In the end - it won’t be a debate with ‘him’.

but this is just IMHO at this point - and truly is irrelevant at this point.

I have to say I’m a little disappointed. Why back in the day JW’s would make a real effort to walk down your street and knock on doors and annoy you in person with their witnessing and literature. Now it’s just a hit and run / cut and paste on a message board. Where’s the quality?.. The one on one?.. The human touch of slamming the door in the face mid sentence… It’s no wonder their membership is in decline. Sad.

I never said that. i clearly stated i wanted debate, honest debate. Because i have a job, a life, and i didn’t want to post too much to digest in one go i divided it in 5 parts. That way allowing for everyone to make replies, ask questions and do some research and checking the bible verses.

I never said you just have to shut up and wait for me to “bless you” with my rants. It seems it’s some kind of sport to make claims about posters here that are simply false. Put words in my mouth.

Also i read what is printed on my library. I may not distribute the software or data, but i’m allowed ** personal use. **

If anyone can not figure out what personal use means for a Jehovah’s Witness i find it strange they even bother to copy-paste the exact legal notes printed on our material. (to make me look stupid or a liar or someone that can’t read.)
Never mind, i’m not offended or upset. I finally understand why the moderater gave me the subtle hint that they don’t encourage witnessing here.

Thank you, i understand now. I wish you all the best.

Our membership’s on the rise by the way. You can simply check the numbers if you really cared. It’s been a boom for the past 20 years and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down.

Nobody said you couldn’t witness. The mods said you couldn’t cut and paste whole articles.

Thread looks just about as I expected it would look.

No; you wanted a “debate” restricted to people who pretty much agree with you already.
