Joan of Arcadia; Stil A Chance For Renewal?

According to this story, there is still a shot in hell…hmm, bad metaphor…well, there is still a chance they might pick up the show and go elsewhere. The story was also in The Hollywood Reporter and on other sites.

I know there are a few fans out there, so although I am aware there is a rule against posting email petitions and the like, I think it is allowed to hint that an email to the appropriate producer and/or network might give the show another chance.

Three years difference? Fifty-three versus fifty? Marketing to homeless people who have no televisions? Replacing Joan with a Buffy knock-off? Holy cow. What a bunch of bumbling nabobs. CBS deserves its decline.

I wish, but I think the actors have already moved on. Amber is starring in the The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and I doubt Mary Steenburgen or Joe Mantenga will remain on the shelf for long.

Sigh. I don’t even want the DVDs, because it just reminds me that we’ll never know how things turn out. Rather than dying a natural death after seven years, CBS killed it.

…Wow you hold Steenburgen and Mantenga in very high esteem… I had no idea they were such hot properties. I have a feeling they would still be available.

And citing The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants as a reason Tamblyn has already moved on really doesn’t work… Alexis Biedel is in it as well and is returning for another season of GmoreGs

Well according to the article, the actors are all under contract until June 15, so none of them have moved on yet. I’m really interested in where Becky Walstrom(?) will end up - I thought she did a fantastic job as Grace in the two years of the show.

I would love to see it picked up by another network, but who wants a low-rated show with a 53 year-old audience?

Pax?

Surely, the PAX Network is drooling over the possibilities.

From the linked article: “CBS is replacing ‘Joan’ with ‘Ghost Whisperer,’ featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt as a young wife who communicates with the dead.”

Oh yeah, I can totally see that being a big hit…

PAX won’t be around for long. They’re going to an all infomercial format.

They promoted it in CHURCHES?? Talk about barking up the wrong tree. Joan of Arcadia was decidedly different theology from that found in mainstream churches. It was the anti-church/pro-spirituality crowd they should have courted.

I don’t believe the demographic info, either. Everyone I know who watched the show is in the 30-40 range and watched it WITH teenagers. And I agree with Hall that CBS went out of its way NOT to promote the show appropriately.

As for believing a show with Hewitt will outpace a show led by Tamblyn, I think CBS is looking for a star that is less “normal” looking in body style. I appreciated how Amber had a normal, womanly body, like most teenaged girls (although she’s older). Hewitt will just promote the anorexic starlet look.

CBS doesn’t know what it’s talking about.

Networks just don’t give shows a chance anymore.

The first couple of seasons of Star Trek: the Next Generation were pretty bad. If it debuted these days, it would have been cancelled before it ever got good, and the show would be remembered as a dismal failure.
