Joan Rivers has died [updated thread title]

I know she has sparked controversy, but she is a classic comedian.

The doc. about her “Piece of Work” is really worth it if you give it a shot.

She’s 81… one would hope she’s been taking care of herself.

Let me guess- her face finally snapped after all the cosmetic surgery?

I see what you did there.

I think she would say that she’s renovated several times.

Fingers crossed for a full recovery.

Not very kind of us, but at the office here we were wondering if something went wrong during her latest platic surgery.

Going under anesthesia is always a risk. Especially as people get older.

I wonder if it was a stroke? Doesn’t sound good at all. They rushed her from the clinic to the hospital.

“If New Jersey were firing rockets at us, we would wipe them out!”

I believe one new story said throat surgery.

I hope she pulls through. She’s a feisty one. Best wishes Joan.

Yes, her vocal cords.

I do too. I love that bitch beyond measure. She’s a lungful of fresh air in today’s hyper-PC world. May she live to see the century mark. But if she does bite the big one, I’m going to start making jokes right away, because that’s the only proper way to honor her memory.

This is a case where I hope Joan had the foresight to sign a loving will. Otherwise the hospital might keep her hooked up on machines for years.

Obviously her sense of humor is good self-therapy. Canny.

In a bizarre coincidence, my 2014 Argyle Sweater cartoon-a-day calendar has a Joan Rivers death joke on it today.

Rivers’ daughter says she is “resting comfortably.” (Which stops short of saying she’s out of the coma.)

I imagine people in comas do rest comfortably.

It’s the family that’s stressed and extremely upset. I hope Joan pulls through and still is sharp mentally. It all depends on how long her brain was deprived of oxygen. She may be just fine if it was only momentary.

Are you afraid to tell us what it is? (If this sounds insulting to Ms. Rivers, don’t answer.)

It’s barely funny.

I can’t find a link online. It pictures a mortuary salesman making a pitch to Rivers for a customized “end-of-life” plan. The printout has a recycling symbol pointing into a factory with a bottle, tire and shoe coming out.

It’s a joke she’d make about herself, I think.

I know what you mean. She wasn’t PC, but she wasn’t Rush Limbaugh-- she didn’t liberal-bait with cheap shots, and I have a feeling she voted for Obama. She also was Jewish. She didn’t stick to doing Jewish comedy-- she appealed to everyone, but she was like Sarah Silverman or Jon Stewart, in that everyone knew she was Jewish. Back when she started out, that was riskier. If you were Jewish, you either had to just play the Jewish circuit, or do an act that had a mainly goyish appeal, and you didn’t admit to being Jewish except under oath.

Personally, I don’t like her as much as some other comedians, but I have a lot of respect for her. And her daughter seems to love her. That’s a big deal, as far as I’m concerned.

I take it you mean “living will.” She has a daughter who I assume has been apprised of her wishes, since they seem to be very close. Your proxy can sign a DNR, and have a feeding tube withdrawn, or not put in place to begin with.

OMG! I can’t believe you are using this terrible event to have a laugh at Joan’s tragedy. Isn’t that wrong somehow?

I mean … I strongly dislike Joan and if it’s permitted by the rules, I’m pretty sure I would try to do the same thing.

But, I just kind of figured that would not be permitted in this forum. Am I wrong about that?
