Yes, he did.
But… Who was TexCat’s second shot?
Yes, he did.
But… Who was TexCat’s second shot?
I kept a little diary of sorts during most of the game, though travel and holidays got in the way at the end. I’ll post it here in case anyone is interested in my ramblings. Most of the really interesting stuff happened early on, anyhow. Of particular note, I think, are the Night 1 actions.
I tried to keep things organized, but it’s probably difficult to parse at times. Sorry about that! I also apologize if I offend anybody at any time. It’s really easy to point out errors when you’re fully spoiled, after all.
Night 1:
Town:
Texcat Kills Prof. Pepperwinkle
IRConfused investigates Mahaloth
Precambrian mollusc protects HookerChemical
Scum:
Scum kills Astral Rejection
Prof. Pepperwinkle investigates Texcat
Mahaloth roleblocks HookerChemical
Moderator thoughts:
If I were writing flavor-text based on outcomes, this would have been a helluva Day/Night cycle. HookerChemical managed to draw both a town protect AND a scum roleblock.
Meanwhile, Texcat (after some deliberation about, you guessed it, HookerChemical) correctly decided to kill Prof. Pepperwinkle. Prof. Pepperwinkle, not to be outdone, investigated TexCat! He unfortunately died without learning that his instinct was the correct one, and Biotop inherits his role.
Big kudos to IRConfused for a successful investigate on Mahaloth.
Overall, this was a hugely successful day for town. It was very nearly best-case scenario, actually. Funnily enough, a D1 Pepperwinkle lynch would likely have resulted in Texcat attempting (and failing) to vig kill a protected HookerChemical, which would have been an even better overall result for town.
**DAY 2
Wednesday afternoon Mod thoughts:[b/]
The train on WF Tomba (six votes currently) is interesting, especially since there’s only one wolf on it at the time of this posting. Possibly more problematic, in the long run, is that the other two wolves have yet to vote at all. I wonder if anybody will pick up on that later. I predict that Dante G is going to take some heat after Tomba flips town.
WF Tomba sidenote: Minor dig on Texcat for “buttering up the mod.” LYNCH HIM.
Thursday Mod thoughts:
Biotop kind of calls out Suburban Plankton for being an asshole. This is going to make him look even better if/when Sub flips.
WF Tomba puts Suburban Plankton into the “likely scum” category, but not for great reasons. Probably won’t come to much after the lynch is over. I will be mightily surprised if he makes it out of toDay alive.
Mahaloth might be sticking his neck out by being strongly against the Tomba lynch train. (post 436)
Night 2:
Town:
Texcat fails to kill HookerChemical
IRConfused investigates Dante G
Precambrianmollusc protects Texcat
Scum:
Scum kills Precambrianmollusc
Mahaloth roleblocks Texcat
Biotop investigates Deadcat
Monday Morning Mod Musings:
Texcat is getting roleblocked, which is bad for scum since the intended target was a townie. That does it for the town Vig! I predict that scum will correctly infer that their block hit a vig, but they’ll probably laser in tomorrow night even though Texcat is out of shots. A net gain for town. On the other hand, PCM is getting killed, so big body blow for town.
I wonder if IRConfused will claim on Day 3. I already predicted that Dante is going to draw heat toDay, and if the lynch train gets rolling on him, a claim might seem like a good idea. On the other hand, IRConfused isn’t even on the scum radar, and Texcat is going to be a juicy target tomorrow. He’ll probably be safe if he chooses to wait another die and eke out one more investigate. Risky! I’m looking forward to seeing the scum board this weekend.
Night 3:
Town:
IRConfused investigates snfaulkner.
Scum:
Scum kills Texcat
Biotop investigates IRconfused.
Day 3
I’ve never heard the theory that “perfect information” cases are more likely to be made by scum, but it makes sense! Making a mental note for the next time I play in a scum role.
The Mahaloth train has left the station. I think his “unvote me and vote Biotop!” post is a bit much, though. Surely somebody will look askance at Biotop tomorrow because of that line. On the other hand, I was pretty sure Dante G was going to get lynched today, so my predictions have been more or less worthless thus far.
I feel like Mahaloth’s claim was premature, and it didn’t even stop conversation through the end of the day. Good for town for keeping their analysis going. It’s too bad for town that they lynched the wolf IRConfused has already investigated, though.
Day 4
I spent the week spectating via phone because I was out of town. For a while I was wondering if IRConfused would claim at all. I was a bit worried that he didn’t, as a new player, understand that he could claim, but that worked out.
Plankton seems to have managed to talk himself out of a lynch. I know I’m reading from a place of knowledge, but both Biotop and SP seem to be screaming ‘scum’ to me. Between the two of them, they placed at least FIVE “third votes” over the course of the day. I don’t think there’s anybody left on town who will do that kind of voting analysis come tomorrow. Bad, bad day for town.
I don’t think IRConfused should have revealed the existance of the alpha. He should have waited to see who would bring it up - it’s more likely that Biotop or SP would have done it to muddy the results of the claims.
Out of town and then holidays so I’m afraid I didn’t do much more than spectate.
TexCat tried to take out HookerChemical, but was blocked by scum.
Well that explains that - I thought I protected Texcat from a scum kill and texcat killed me.
I didn’t realize Scum was so heavily weighted with powers. Town did extremely well in this game! That was quite a bit to overcome.
scum detective , and role block and back up role
yep that was powerful.
they had one role block, no successful investigations and used the backup, but the block actually helped town with Texcat not killing Hooker.
So in all seamed to balance out. Could have gone the other way though.
There was a lot of excellent Town play. We had found out about IRConfused being the Cop, and I was trying to keep suspicion off him so he might just try and hold on his claim for just one more Day. But he made the right decision. Had he waited I think we might have won. Nice call, IRConfused.
DeadCat began the wagon on Mahaloth and TexCat’s follow-up post was devastating. TexCat’s killing of PP on Night 1 was very good for Town.
Ouch. Tell me about it.
Wow. Night 1 was very interesting. And here I was thinking my gambit didn’t work.
On our side, Mahaloth made a great call on a PCM kill on the second Night. He also did a seriously good job setting me up as Town looking. And we couldn’t have got the lynch on Octarine without Suburban Plankton and his “dealing.” I went to bed thinking SP was doomed, and woke up to find SP had negotiated his escape. PP also talked his at out of a Lynch on Day 1 when I did not think it possible.
I was as surprised as you…I still have no idea why everyone followed you on the “lynch Octarine” train…and why you didn’t take far more heat for that after I flipped Wolf.
FWIW
We were asked to give 5 Rock/paper scissors answers
and say Wolf or town. I had no idea if I was voting for a wolf or playing as a wolf if my sequence won, so I just picked wolf.
Not sure if HC was asked for wolf or town, or what would have happened if we both picked wolf
Either way, entirely random and the results can be verified as being independently chosen.
It’s easy to see from our point of view. I thought after your lynch I was doomed the next day for sure. But I caught a break being the last to post on the wagon against you, and thus had a good excuse for looking realistically bewildered.
No, you’re the only one I asked.
I’ve only skimmed; Congrats town, and congrats to Biotop, you certainly fooled me.
In hindsight, it should have been obvious why Biotop was getting so stressed by the demands of the game: he was writing a veritable novella over on the Wolf board!
Anyway, thank you to Johnny B. for a good game. I like the way you wrapped up the ending. Not anticlimactic at all!
If the Wolves had won, would the last Townie to die have been the writer of the diary?
Okay, read a bit more thoroughly… That’s a powerful scum team! Explains why players kept up such an unconfrontational attitude(yeah, guys, I’ve accused you of being lazy quite a lot in this thread!). Interesting.
Oh, and I may be up for joining a new game, if anyone wants to host. Now going forward I’ll be more in control of my own schedule.
No, it would have been Biotop with an intimation that he had been writing it as a cover in case somebody stumbled across it.
I’ve now read this thread except the spoiler boxes on this page, and it just increases my frustration about my serious rookie error on the last Day. Without that, maybe we could have won without the randomness. I feel like I played an OK game up until then. Congratulations once again to Biotop. To me it felt like a pretty well-balanced game.
Interesting to read that the win conditions were basically an oversight, but I agree JB resolved it well.
Let me get this straight: Biotop secured a guaranteed mislynch at the end of the penultimate Day. So the result of the coinflip between me and HC didn’t really matter. Had Biotop then decided not to night-kill, this would have left him vs snf and HC on the next Day. Clearly HC would vote for Biotop, and then the two of them would have to fight for snf’s vote. So presumably Biotop decided to avoid this scenario as he felt a 50-50 chance on winning the final Day coinflip was better than his chances of convincing snf to vote for HC. Is that an error? I agree that I, in snf’s shoes, would be more likely to vote HC. But perhaps HC would have come up with a case against Biotop after all.
But SNF would surely wonder why he was left alive to be the deciding vote.
