Josh Duggar (Duggar kid 1/19) to be executive director of Family Research Council

Lessee… They’re a product of a disgusting religious cult obsessed with dominance, control and think most people are demons. Women are shit, unless their birthing another potential scumbag who thinks their way of thinking is the right way because a storybook told them that. Well, not the whole storybook, just a few senseless verses out of context rethought to justify foregoing laws and requirements of society.

I’m just talking about the males. I think all of the women sucked into this are victims of many things.

Westboro Baptist Church looks like THE BIGGEST pussies compared to this lot of fairy-believing bullshit, but that’s just MHO.

And my family problems are only based on where the hell we’re eating dinner Saturday. Yes, I’ve seen the show before, only to bash them online from left to right due to their ridiculous and mindless idea of how to raise a family.

Well, his full-time job was at the Family Research Council, an anti-gay hate group. Considering the history, bigots like this often end up being exposed as members of the group they are so obsessed with attacking, it seems possible.

The only difference between these fuckers and the Taliban is that the Duggers don’t think they can get away with making women were burqas.

So once again Sarah Palin misses a point and defends the Duggars while aiming at Lena Dunham.

“Look at the monkey ! Will you look at the monkey ? WHY ARE YOU NOT LOOKING AT THE MONKEY !?”

I vote yes.

Please, no more bloviating pettifoggery.

“Purposing?” What the hell - that’s the third or fourth time I’ve seen someone in that family quoted as using it that way. Do the transcribers not know how to spell “proposing,” or is that another word they’ve redefined, like the way they use “defraud?”

I suspect that the outcome would be like the Astro City comics storyline where a lawyer cited examples of alternate-universe evil twins, the dead returning to life, etc, to cast doubt upon the guilt of his client, who had been seen committing a murder by a large group of witnesses.

There’s a bit of dialogue I recall from one of the Sherlock Holmes pastiches that fits nicely:

“He wants to believe. He has exchanged Occam’s razor for Occam’s kaleidoscope, complicating simple facts into explanations of impossible complexity.”

9-11? Eh, whatevs. None of the planes hit my house…

Dude, it’s the internet. People bash all kinds of things. For example, I’ve seen a few cheap shots at President Obama over the years.

As for the Duggars, I can’t recall if I bashed them in this thread or not. I have never seen their show, and never cared how many children they had. “What’s it to you” was pretty much my attitude about this family. I was aware they existed, but really had no opinion of them. Now I do. They are not the type of people I respect, for many reasons. If I’m wrong, and they are truly lovely people, my contempt for them won’t matter any more than your admiration. It’s the internet, nothing matters…

To be fair they were just waiting for the right time to parade them around talking about how they don’t think it’s a big deal.

Why should we care about any domestic abuse?

Because we live in a society. Children who grow up in fucked-up homes grow into fucked-up adults who end up fucking things up for everyone. If Josh has been molesting his own children, they could very well grow up molesting their children. Children who will then grow up with emotional and behavior problems, who need public assistance.

Whenever I’m at the grocery store and I see a parent cussing out their kid in public, I grieve a little. Not just for them, but for my community. I know that that kid probably isn’t going to grow up to be a normal, happy, highly productive person. They will be damaged somehow. And it will be the community who will shoulder the costs of that damage.

That’s why we should care, Urbanredneck.

Super-Christian kneejerk jumping to the defense of an über-Christian?

It’s now being reported that no laws were broken by the release of the police report, following a freedom of information inquiry, because the case was never sealed. According to the person who released it. Apparently while he may have been a minor when he committed the acts, by the time it was reported, he was an adult and that’s what counts for such purposes.

That’s an interesting twist, if it’s true.

According to the latest released report, the Duggars sent Josh to a treatment facility run by Harold Walker. That would be the Little Rock Training Center, founded by Bill Gothard. So how can anyone believe that the counseling the family members received was NOT in line with the ATI teachings? I mean, we have seen the victim blaming documents that ATI distributed.

“and there’s people that are purposing to try to bring things out and twisting them to hurt and slander.”

Got it in one - it’s a very specific reference to (once again) specific bible verses from the KJV version, where ‘purposed’ is more akin to ‘swore a solemn oath to do x’ as opposed to ‘well, I thought I’d just do this because it seemed like a good idea at the time.’

“Purposing” is also very useful in letting your intended or aspirational spiritual goals be unhindered by your actual practices in real life. Examples from my own experience: you can ‘purpose’ to feel joyful and happy in Christ Jesus despite suffering crippling depression. You can ‘purpose’ to be a gentle and Christlike father despite the fact that you beat the shit outta your kids every few months when you feel stressed. You can ‘purpose’ to be a more obedient and ‘sweet’ daughter/wife, even though your natural temperament doesn’t match up.

Make sense?

So now even Huckabee is abandoning ship on his support of the Duggars. I think it’s too late - he made such a strong point of supporting them, so to cave in now looks like flip-flopping, and we know how Republicans hate flip-floppers. But if he didn’t change his position, he’d be stuck in the mire with them, as this thing gets uglier and uglier and the parents try harder and harder to whitewash what really happened.

The sisters will be giving an interview tonight (Friday, 5 jun 15) defending their brother and again insisting that it was no big deal because it only happened when they were asleep. (The article points out how that is inaccurate. I suppose it’s possible that Jessa and Jill have never been told about the incident with the five year old or the time Josh stuck his hand up someone’s dress. Or maybe they’re just lying.)

The girls go on to defend their parents, too:

What more could anyone ask?

That’s shocking; I had no idea Sarah Palin was still alive.

Don’t worry - the girls will change their names when they’re married off.

It’s the boys that will carry the burden. Double-burden if it wasn’t just the girls Josh fingered, although I haven’t heard anything of the sort.
