Joy To The World! There's A New MMP!

I think there’s a bunch of y’all that need a larger font and bifocals stronger than mine.

This is my prime rib soup recipe:

Make stock or broth with big rack from the big prime rib roast. I leave all the meat in between the bones and all that yummy caramelized goodness on. In the stock, I toss in a couple of bay leaves, onion, and celery leaves, along with some pepper.

I also toss in the the lovely gelatin that forms under the fat from the drippings because the flavor is so concentrated. Since I had a big 12 quart pot this year, I did add a carton of beef stock and a little bit from a carton of beef broth. The rest was water to fill the pot up and cover the bones.

Let the stock/broth simmer for a good long time.

When it’s done, remove the bones pick off the meat and toss it back into the stock pot. Since I still had left over roast, I added some of that meat too.

I then sweat some celery, onion and carrots and add them to the broth. I let it go for awhile until the veggies are almost done, and add some barley. I let it go again until the barley is pretty close to done, and add egg noodles.

Some years I add peas or corn, but this year I didn’t.

The soup always receives rave reviews and this year’s stock was especially dark and rich. I had enough left over to actually do two 8 quart pots of soup, so I put the stock for the second pot of soup in the freezer.

It helps that the prime rib roast I buy is preseasoned and marinated and I haven’t found a roast yet that beats this one.

In my defense,** Bobbio, **I was not wearing my glasses when reading the boards. I rarely do because I get a neck ache. Sadly, though, I already need a new prescription and it hasn’t even been two years. I’m having issues even with my glasses on.

Soup sounds nummy Taters! ]

Just finished an early dindin of chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs. YUM!!! I made up a sausage, aig and cheese casserole which needs to set overnight and get baked up tomorrow. Tomorrow is 5th Sunday breakfast. The Lutherans have a tradition of 5th Sunday breakfast, so we combine together to eat a big ol’ brekkie on fifth Sundays just like we do on 1st Sundays for Brunch/N.O.L. which will be Sunday week. We eat a lot down at ol’ St. Pat’s.

I finally woke up.
I took a nap after shopping or what should have been a nap, but 5 hours is more than a nap.

The snow is gone, so I woke up sah-kid and rushed him out for nothing this morning.
We only got to two stores so now we can do store number 3 tomorrow.

My knee was hurting so bad I was feeling nauseous so we cut the trip short.

I don’t know what I’m having for dinner, I may just go back to sleep.

I’ve got a big pot of N.O.T. soup cooling so’s we can eat it for supper - soon!

I’ve decided that I’m going to do a soup fest to christen my new kitchen counters. I’ve got most of the details worked out in my head, and I’ll be posting a thread soon to announce it. I’m going to open it to all Dopers in the area, not just Mumpers, but considering where I live, I don’t expect a gigantic turnout. Luckily, soup keeps well.

Tentatively, if the installation happens on the schedule they projected, I’m looking at the last Saturday in January, which, coincidentally, is the weekend after my birthday, so all attendees will be required to gush that I don’t look 59 at all! I think that sounds like an outstanding party!

We’ll see how the date falls out once we’re scheduled to have our template done.

Meanwhile - Soup’s on! Come and get it! Taters, I’ll trade ya a bowl of mine for a bowl of yours!

It’s snowing. Tiny little snows, but it’s getting colder and freezier.

I’m thinking about making a $60 ham sammich for dinner, but I’m not that hungry yet. It’s actually leftover Christmas ham from Oldest Sister’s place. It was a precooked ham that Nephew Z apparently wanted. She was quite miffed at the price. Her raised-on-a-hog-farm husband declared it good but not quite $60 worth of good. He’s picky about his pork.

Yawn

Laaaazy day here. I did go do my washing, but that’s been it apart from moochin’ round the house eatin’ cheese, crackers, and leftover cake. That’s exhausting work, apparently.
Tomorrow I shall do more. Maybe

Spaz for sixty bucks I’d expect the ham to be big enough to feed the population of at least ye olde hometowne (app. 30,000). That’s a lot of money for a ham. Then again I am cheap so take that into consideration.

Nuts doin’ laundry is exhaustin’. You needed the cheese, crackers and cake to regain your strength!

Whoa, that’s some expensive ham, Spaz.

I’ve added the soup to the blog. Sounds yummy.

Have been pretty busy today. Went through a bunch of stuff in my room in an attempt to make sure that all paper is either filed or shredded.

Also moved some plants around in the basement and watered everything. Remembered to water the poinsettias in the living room as well. Go, me!

Made up the last of the potstickers and froze them and ran a load of dishes.

Am also ripping my newest CDs onto my laptop. (Got a great deal at Barnes & Noble.)

Planning out what else I need to do as well. Have spent the day indoors so far, although I’d like to go for a walk after a while. It’s chilly out and we have snow, but I think it should be beautiful to walk around in. Nice change from last year, when we had almost no snow. (We’ve probably already had 3 or 4 times as much snow this week as we had all last winter.)

Off to do more stuff…

Hugs all.

gt maybe my “No Snow” signs are forcin’ more snow up your way. Since you like it I’m glad to be of help.

Soup was yum. Cookies are yum. Pellet stove needs pellets - off I go to feed it!

I had an uncle who raised rabbits for food. He fed the rabbits pellets. Thus I picture you burnin’ rabbit food. :stuck_out_tongue:

or rabbit residue . . .

Since our resident mumper cameraman was doing news reports earlier this week, I think I should give one today, especially since I have a bit of an announcer background.
Let’s start with the wetha. Last night we were specting 2-4" of fluffy white stuff. This morning they were saying < 1". So of course we got …3". Ummm, isn’t the forecast su’posed to get *better *as it gets closer?
Traffic report - roads were pretty much just wet but wheels were spinning when going up hill on the grass unless you were sitting back & powering thru it, which was quite tough. Then my glasses fogged up so I didn’t realize there was a downhill at the edge of the field until I felt the gravity effect. It was starting to ice up as the sun was getting low. Yeah, it was fun slippin’ & slidin’ on my ride
BTW, the white stuff at the top of the wheel is snow around the brakes. The white stuff at the front of the wheel is snow caught around the derailleur; the white stuff inside of the wheel is snow caught in the rim; the white stuff…well, you get the idea.

Given the icy roads, I’s not venturing out tonight. My choices are sit in front of the puter screen & do some necessary yearend work or sit in front of the other screen & ‘rehydrate’ with some special liquid - it’s water infused with hops & yeast. Whatever should I choose?

Taters, how exactly do you sweat some celery, onion and carrots? Put 'em in a chair, shine a bright light on 'em & ask if they have an alibi?

I frequently think that weather forecasters use dartboards or random number generators.

Well since you have the PBR sticker on the bike… I am guessing the latter option. Do you have snow tires on that thing?

Jim

When I lived in the wilds of West Texas, the forecast called for a 20% chance of rain every day. It rains twice a year, in two week windows with few exceptions plus some snow. I think they did this to give us hope. The year I moved there we had thirty+ days of 110f+/43c+ straight. If there is a hell it is in Howard County Texas.

Jim

Blurf.

That exact dartboard gag was used in an Archie comic.

It’s a precooked ham. Those tend to be on the pricey side. Oldest Sister recently discovered Trader Joe’s and is all about them, so she has been saving some grocery money it seems. There’s a TJ’s opening in Hippy Hollow on Grocery Store Alley South* next year or so. After seeing all the TJ’s stuff at Oldest Sister’s house I’m now mildly interested.

The snow, she accumulates. We might have !!!AN INCH OF SNOW!!! by tomorrow morning.

*I live on Grocery Store Alley North. There’s a reason I take the parallel road home. Two actually: 1. The impending explosion of stores next year on GSA-South and 2. coming in the parallel way means I can backtrack and make a right turn onto the street I live on. Making a left turn on Grocery Store Alley is an exercise in extreme patience at best and futility at worst.
