I saw a lady walking a dog and I asked her what kind he was, she said he was a German Shepherd. I asked if I could pet him and she said yes. He was a nice dog but was he fluffy. Literally I could skink 4 or 5 hands, hand over hand over hand over hand over hand, into his fur.
I asked if he was mix breed and she said, “No it’s winter that’s why he’s so hairy.”
The dog looked like a regular German Shepherd except a very fluffy hairy version of one. I have seen other German Shepherds in the area being walked and they aren’t nearly has fluffy as this guy was.
My question is a hairy fluffy German Shepherd somewhat different breed or is it just a regular German Shepherd that for some reason produces more fur in the winter. This is our second really cold winter in a row
German Shepherds can throw long coats in their pups, and some folks breed for it. Personally, I love the look. In most breeds, the longer coat is called “rough” and the short “smooth”, but I’d have to look to see if the GSD folks use that terminology.
