My weekly Monday resolution that falls to pieces by Tues. :smack:
I spoke too soon when I thought this office job was going to give me more time to hang out over here . . . boo. The only thing this job is going to give me more of is need for a stiff drink at the end of the day. :dubious:
I’m not a huge fan of Crown. Yes, yes…I’m a heathen. Give me vodka, or if you insist on whiskey, give me Pendletons.
Tonight we went bowling for the first time in years. I well and truly sucked. I never even broke 100. Still, it was fun for the most part.
There was a family in the lane next to us that was irritating me because they either did not understand bowling etiquette or didn’t care. They would also all (as in all five of them) stand up on the lane while one was bowling. If I was up on the boards, ready to throw, they’d come running up at the same time and throw. Also, they were bringing food on the wood. Their youngest puked all over the place and they finally left. While I felt sorry for the kid, I was glad to see them go.
Ah well, it’s back to the salt mines tomorrow. I’m not looking forward to it.
**gotti, **I hope you and DH are starting to feel a little better.
I’m glad you made it back safely and that your daughter is all moved in, rigs.
Hey all. Sticking to Dr Pepper for now, gotta work tomorrow.
Too hot to do much of anything today. Finally managed to hit the mall for the Princess’ school shoes and backpack. Fortunately she chose a black and purple “Wizards of Waverly Place” backpack, which doesn’t show dirt nearly as much as last year’s Disney Princess model. Picked up KFC for din-din afterward.
Off to help the Princess put up yet another Selena Gomez poster in her room.
I am feelign surprisingly fresh this morning after last nights wine adventures - I wouldn’t normally drink on a school night but I made an exception last night.
Only problem was at 3.14 this morning there were very yappy dogs in the courtyard which woke me and most of the building up…I couldn’t get back to sleep either so I’s tahred!
Replace “very yappy dogs” with “very loud neighbors having a domestic dispute” and you have my night. No violence that I could hear, just really, REALLY loud yelling. Mostly from the husband, who was being an asshole from what I could hear. I kept hoping for the wife to whack him upside the head with a frying pan.
Took Special Teen back to school in Jerusalem. Last time she’s starting a grade school year. Ever. Eek – my baby is in twelfth grade!
She is truly a Young Adult. And I am truly getting old… Rigs, I know exactly what you meant about moving your daughter in!
On the plus side, after two years, it’s like coming home for her – we arrived an hour and a half before the Principal’s Address, adn ended up twiddling our thumbs for 45 minutes after finishing setting up her corner of the room…
Then I spent 5 hours trying to figure out why Word was randomly barfing on us on the home computer. A full A/V scan, a rootkit scan, various other games and an uninstall of Windows Live Messenger (latest SW to be installed) later, I found that it’s a known bug in Microsoft Office 2003 – and that I just needed to reset the Custom Dictionary file :smack::smack::smack::smack:
OK, so I should have goggled the Error Message first… but geez – you supplied this bug through your Live Updates, you couldn’t supply a fix in the half year since the bug has been known? in the general direction of Washington State (sorry **Taters **-- not enough precision to aim exactly for Redmond from here :D)
**Swampy **-- your OP was posted at 4:23 AM on Monday, Holy Land time. If that doesn’t count as Monday, I don’t know what does
Hey! I resemble that remark!!
Welcome to the world of Administrativia… That’s why I ran away from it a few years ago.
I’m still up for a drink, though
I’m not sure I’ve ever bowled better than 100… Of course, I’ve probably bowled a grand total of about 10 times in my life, so…
But… a metal object being used to hit a block of dense, full material would have produced even more noise!
Happy Monday, everybody!
All the sickies, feel better and get better. Especially Gotti and household. Remember, the silver lining is – when everybody is running around scared like headless [del]swine[/del] chickens later, you’ll (hopefully) be immune!
Well, I certainly am not inebriated on my last week of summer “vacation”* - this gin & the previous vodka were for strictly medicinal purposes. Anyway, this is that last of my slacking and staying up too late in order to watch TV - I MUST be productive this week. Website needs to be finished, New Dog needs his neutering sutures out, and the doctor must be visited (plus, according to my husband, something called “laundry” needs to be done - hello, if I can sit around the house in my PJs, why can’t he go to work in them?).
I can tell I’ve started this trend of productivity since I’ve actually replied to the MMP, instead of reading it and wishing I was one of the cool kids.
*Working 25-hour weeks counts as a vacation, right?
Starting the MMP early, Swampy? You’ll get a reputation!
I had a pretty busy weekend, the heating engineer finished putting the new stuff in on Friday so we had hot water again which was a relief. My weekend consisted of groceries, laundry, errands and a lot of cleaning. Yesterday I went over to see my doting parent and did the jobs she’d got lined up for me - it is, of course, not without reward as she had been looking at the website of her favourite jeweller and wanted to buy me something from there so now I have a black pearl necklet and onyx earrings to look forward to. I told her she was supposed to be spending my inheritance on enjoying herself but she overruled.
Yesterday evening after I got back over this side of the Midlands, I went to a friend’s house to feed the menagerie (three ferrets, one polecat and one moggy) then went home for dinner. Today is a public holiday here so I am debating whether to do more cleaning or treat myself to a day of sloth.
So far, sloth is winning as I’m sitting here with a cup of tea and a plate of strawberries.
I realize there’s a But in your name as well (although not a Butt), but you mean Casa Perro
Or maybe la caseta del perro…
I should be workin’ but I’ve got eight files to translate and have already done three of them (ok, so they were the shortest ones), so I’m taking a break. There were a few terms I wasn’t sure of but I’ve been able to reduce them to only one through proper usage of linguistic resources.
The MMP was started in the wee hours according to my computer. If we can get Hokkaido Brit, TP, China Guy or another one of our furtherest-east people mumping, it will count as having been created Monday morning.
Welcome, iffy to the MMP! I’d work in my pajamas here at home, but cooking without a bra seems somehow… dangerous.
I am feeling much better this morning. Last night’s ride home from TVLand on over-inflated tires left me downright queasy. This morning I am sympathizing with rosie as with the cooler weather I was looking for jeans instead of capris and I found that I have two pair that actually fit and three pair which are too big. Fortunately, the too big ones haven’t reached the falling down on the job stage yet. That will give me time to buy a couple other new ones. And I believe Old Navy is almost always having a sale!;)
I’m at work, so I can’t do a drnuken psto to get into the spirit[s] <snerk> of the OP.
Polycarp needs an MMP nickname. I suggest Manyfish.
I sent a sympathy card to the family of the DOA I hauled yesterday. The wife was so distraught that I was fearing for her having an HTG heart attack.
A funny moment in the sad story. There were 4 of us who showed up: Steve the Barber, Granny Sue and Brassy Deb. I have this habit of, whenever I see people hugging of asking “Where’s mine?” in a tone of faux :dubious:, provided the context is not something sad.
We were getting ready to leave. BDeb lays a big ol’ hug on Steve, and it was not a sad event, even though we were on the scene. “Where’s mine?”, and Deb lays a big one on me, then back up immediately.
“Ow ow ow! You jammed my stethosope into my boob!”
“Oops, sorry…”, but I still had to laugh at her.
Oh well. I have to buy new mower blades after work.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienated. Brekkied even. I slept until eight a.m. this mornin’. Unheard of!
I’m goin’ to start a pot roast in the slow cooker shortly. I got a hankerin’ for pot roast. Plus it can cook without me havin’ to watch it should I feel the urge for a nappy poo.
It rained last night. Right now it’s cloudy and foggy but supposed to get sunny and only in the mid 80s.
Ok, off to, ummmmm… well start the pot roast and sloth around.
Morning. No drunkenness here. Some caffination though.
Finally finished our game of Risk with our neighbors yesterday afternoon. After a really big lunch at Buca di Beppo (chain of Italian restaurants that serve really big family-style dishes for those unfamiliar with them).
A gerbil almost got lost last night. We took them out to play in the raised beds, but then a neighbor stopped by to say hi and I was trying to watch the gerbil, but she must have climbed out when I was talking. When neighbor left, gerbil was gone. Fortunately, unlike previous escapes (in the house), she didn’t stay behind stuff but actually came out where I could grab her so it didn’t turn into too big a drama.
We finally got a mirror for the landing on our stairs on Saturday and KT installed it on Sunday. It’s this one from Ikea. The stitching is much more obvious on it IRL so it’s more interesting than just a black frame. It looks good and brings more light into the stair area than there was before.
We also got some curtains to hang in front of the laundry alcove. There used to be doors so you could close off the W/D, but in order to have anything larger than apartment-size appliances, we had to remove the doors. So we just got some white canvas tab-top curtains and hung those up. Looks good.
Has anyone cooked with/made sauces with green (i.e. unripened) coriander seeds? Our cilantro plant went to seed and is covered with tasty green seeds. They seem like they’d go nicely in a browned butter sauce or something maybe over fish. Any ideas?
