Just got 91 episodes of Are You Afraid Of The Dark

My parents wouldn’t let me watch Salute Your Shorts, but somehow I did anyway. Maybe they just discouraged it.

Pete & Pete was genius.

I have an 8-year-old sister, and the stuff she watches on TV is such crap. I wish they would put some of these shows on DVD so I could show her what good kids’ TV is.

Oo, actually? I found the first season of Pete & Pete ($27 for 8 episodes, though?). Shiny. Maybe I’ll get it for her birthday.

I adored that show.

The one that has stayed with me the most is the one where a kid gets these magic sunglasses at a magic shop and he can see these people who are all in black (black gloves and masks too) in his world when he puts them on. I don’t remember much about the rest of it (like who exactly the people are) but he realises they either don’t like him or some other sinister thing, so he rips off the sunglasses, only to find that they’re in the real world with the sunglasses, off, and they’re slowly stalking towards him.

Jesus, that still creeps me out.

Sounds like it was based on They Live.

Ahh, Nickelodeon was just passing its prime with the advent of SNICK. Let’s see if I can remember…I know the cartoons were there at the beginning…
Rugrats, Rocko’s Modern Life and maybe Ren & Stimpy.
Roundhouse for sure. Maybe Pete & Pete. Are You Afraid came last.
What happened to all those awesome shows…Count Duckula, Danger Mouse, Banana Man, Cities of Gold, Spartacus, Pinwheel, Muppet Babies and the Muppet Show, Welcome Freshman, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude…holy crap, I watched waaaay too much Nick as a kid.

Heh…
MERV CAM!

I love THEY LIVE; I had an old tape of it that I copied from TV but I don’t know where it is. I don’t think it was quite like TL, but I’d have to rewatch the AYAotD episode to be sure.

Don’t forget Fifteen.

When I was in 6th grade, I got my hair permed because I thought Deena’s (from Salute Your Shorts) hair was so awesome. Too bad my hair ended up more like Tonya Harding’s. :frowning:

Exactly what I came in here to ask.

As for AyAotD being “hilarious” … when I watched it, I was young enough that it was genuinely scary, and not funny at all. I don’t know when that was, but I’m almost 18 now, so that should give you an idea, I guess.

I’ve never heard of “You Can’t Do That on Television.” (or if I have, I’ve forgotten entirely) I imagine it would be a pretty boring show: “You can’t show people naked on TV. Behind this wall, there is a person, and that person is naked. But, uh, we can’t show it. It is there, however. Trust me.”

And yes, Nickelodeon / Disney Channel nowadays is stupid, stupid crap. My sister, who is 14, watches That’s So Raven and such all the time, and it makes me mad. I like Even Stevens though, so if we’re calling that “new” (I don’t remember when it came out) then it’s an exception.

That’s not at all what it was. It was a sketch comedy show. The name, AFAIK, came from the fatc that what they were showing shouldn’t be on TV, cause it was so “wrong.” Or something. They had a recurring thing where if anyone on the show said “I don’t know” they had green slime dropped on them. Actually, if you have ever seen slime used in any fashion on Nickelodeon SINCE the mid 1980’s, that show is the reason why.

…After posting that, I am really wondering why I used all caps in the word since…can anyone tell me what I was thinking?

The original three Nicktoons were *Doug, Rugrats, *and Ren & Stimpy.

And the original lineup of SNICK was Clarissa Explains it All, Roundhouse, Ren & Stimpy, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?

“Whenever my life gets me so down
I know I can go down
To where the music and the fun never ends
As long as the music keeps playin
Blah blah blah something something
…”

Help me out here!

From here:

Comming in here after that Post on Todays Special… Glad to see so many dopers are my age!.

Second for the Pinball Wizard. That has to be one of the best.
Then you had that one with the Legend of Quicksilver.
And the Locker/Pool Episode was cool also.
Danger Soup… Phone Police… dang…
Then again… Nickelodeon (With the exception of Nicktoons) has Jumpped the Shark.

The Tommorow People was cool… short lived… but cool. Alex Mack… well… gee… Alex ends up telling everyone right? That sucked.
Salute your Shorts was Awesome… and all the Game shows that Nick did…
They should consider re doing Double… Oh… yeah… Nevermind. :smack: (Triple dare Challenge… talk about a game breaker!)

Anyway… I think we all agree that Nick was better in the past.

And when can I get my hands on your Eps?

Time for a little 7 Degrees of seperation.

Steven Hillenberg… Spongbob Creator… worked on staff of Rocko. SBSP Season 1 DVD has an interview with Joe Murray… and presents the entire Rocko Open (Which Joe proceeds to talk over)

Does anyone know why there was never a series/TV movies/feature films made of R.L. Stine’s other, more “adult” books? I guess they’re a little past their prime, but it seems like someone with half a brain would have at least made the Fear Street series into a movie-of-the-week type thing. Were there ever plans to make 'em, or should I buy the rights up now?

No fair! Is it out on DVD or did you get some’s taped off tv copies?

I would love for them put a few nick shows on DVD, like Fifteen or Rocko’s Modern Life.

Good question. I loved those books (I read a few of the Goosebumps and then I got into the older stuff… then just sorta stopped reading). Hmm I have the Cataluna Chronicles around here somewhere…
