Anyone else hearing this? I’m listening to MSNBC, but it’s not on their website yet, so I can’t post a link. Apparently there was intelligence regarding a meeting of high-level Iraqi authorities, and Saddam was possibly going to be there. Coalition forces bombed the place really, really hard, and they think that they may have gotten Saddam and his sons, too. Of course, this is still in the “we think maybe, nothing confirmed” stage at this point.
It’s on the website now…

Imagine if he’s only been horribly maimed. His body doubles will be furious.
It is in the allies best interests to foster a belief that Saddam is dead, whether he is or not. If they can convince his supporters that it is futile to fight, or draw Saddam out, it’s a win-win situation. OTOH, that would be some great news.
Thnk you, Beagle. My half-dead gerbil-in-a-wheel computer just isn’t getting this stuff fast enough.
Again?
With respect to the Moody Blues. . .

In other news, SPOOFE still isn’t holding his breath.
He’s not dead–they’re just keeping his brain alive in a jar…
nah, he’s just hangin out with Andy Kauffman.
Hopefully he’s lying in a ditch barely alive, singed and smoking.
Has anyone seen a pack of wild boars in Baghdad recently?

Nah, he’s just pining for the fjords… Beautiful plumage, eh?
If he was anywhere near that blast, he’s nothing more than a stain on a wall now and it’ll require DNA to ID him, which brings up the question… Do we have any of his DNA onhand to verify his death?
Lieu: I heard (CNN, I think, maybe MSNBC…) that the plan is to match any “Saddam” DNA against his cousin “Chemical Ali” and verify that way…
I hope he is and I hope he enjoys hell, and I hope Dubya joins him soon. They will be able to exchange notes on how many people each killed.
How would they tell Saddam’s body from those of his sons? I know squat about DNA. Would the difference indicate it’s him and not just another close relative?
This link seems to cover it pretty well and without hype:
