Justified - Final Season [open spoilers]

Oh - I think Markham and Catherine could have a thing or three to say about that.

I’ve got to confess it never occurred to me that Boyd and Ava might have set up the shooting of Boyd. He does appear in the scenes from next week, so perhaps he even loaded the cartridge light.

No biggy… I have no intention of pressing charges  and I agree that there is a certain amount of responsibility that the potential spoilee bears.

However, there are in fact certain degrees of spoiling and rules are often established depending on the popularity of a show and the potential for spoiling…whether there is a book or a movie or a foreign production etc.

I thought that it was pretty well understood that episodes that had aired were fair game but things like books, movies… and previews of future episodes weren’t. Even if OPEN SPOILERS is clearly noted.

One of the reason that I made my initial post on the subject was to clarify my understanding of the subject. So far I’m thinking that my understanding was wrong… as far as previews go at least.

I think John Mace was the one who started all of the threads for each episode of the series Lost. The OP of each thread included links to every previous episode thread and included an explicit set of instructions as to spoilers. I thought this was a good way to handle it, so we were all on the same page.

Justified’s creator and showrunner Graham Yost was on “Fresh Air, with Terry Gross” this week.

Well damn.

To be honest, I always expected Mikey to get popped seasons ago, by Robert Quarles or some such.

Didn’t go down without a fight, though.

Was shocked as hell that Boone didn’t meet his end.

I was sad to see Mikey go. The big question is, will Markham kill Wynn or will Wynn kill Markham?

Catherine was going to kill Michael the moment she asked him for his gun. He wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.

Did anyone else finally get the vibe that Wynn and Michael (Mikey) were lovers? I had completely missed that before.

It reminded me of the Game of Thrones scene where the Mountain killed the Viper.

Who was the dead guy up in the mountains?

…and why was there snow at the lower elevations but not as they climbed higher up to the building on the ridge?

The dead guy was “Grubes.” Ava and Boyd had previously mentioned him as someone who could lead you through the hills and out of the area, in ways that would evade law enforcement.

Yep, I definitely got that vibe.

Pretty good episode; I’m glad that Boyd is still alive. I’m still not sure that his shooting wasn’t prearranged with Ava though.

While I know in real life that ADA Vasquez is justified in what he is saying; he sure is an asshole since we viewers like Raylan. On the other hand it seems like they’re opening up the possibility that Raylan gets fired from the Marshall’s service. He needs to get his shit together and get to Boyd; who is nothing but a cold blooded killer. I have to write that so I’ll remember it myself! I like his character so much; but man he is a really bad dude and needs to die.

Boon (Johnathan Tucker) is listed on IMDB as being in the final episode “The Promise.” don’t know how accurate that is; but for now it’s looking like his showdown with Raylan, if there is one, is going to have to wait until then. His character is just too dumb to stay alive.

I sense that the writers want to end the series the way it started, and Boon is there to accomplish that. The only suspense is what wonderful way he will die.

Michael was pretty much the ultimate tank/meat shield, wasn’t he? Great STR and terrific CON, with Intelligence as his dump stat.

While watching that scene I was irresistibly reminded of Rasputin (who was reportedly just as hard to kill).

Obviously Wynn has some plan in mind for Katherine’s diamonds. Can’t imagine they’d be easy to turn into cash in Harlan, though–too out-of-the-ordinary. Might this be a clue that Wynn will get away, and live to tan again elsewhere?

The tennis bracelet is something he can sell. The engagement ring will be noticed by everyone.

Nothing posted after last night’s episode?
I’m looking forward to see how this will all come together in the final episode!

Boyd may be a cold blooded killer, but Boon is a creepy fuck who bullies people for pleasure, including a teenaged girl. He does not deserve a clean shot from Raylan for his end. He needs to die in a horrible and painful manner.

Well, yes: Boon was designed to inspire us to wish him a painful demise.

The writers had a problem to solve: over the years, Boyd has become a sympathetic character to many viewers. The thing about Boyd is: he’s smart. And Justified viewers are self-selected to be fond of smart people.

If the epic final confrontation has Raylan (also smart, of course) defeating Boyd, then in order to approve that final confrontation, we need to be pretty sure that Boyd is, in the last analysis, irredeemable. Thus we have scenes such as

Boyd gunning down his kidnapped driver–who’s written to be a fairly admirable guy–in cold blood, while shouting “I’M AN OUTLAW!!!11!!”

My hunch is that Boon is being written to be a sort of bridge for us in ceasing to identify with smart, resourceful, witty Boyd—and instead return to seeing Boyd as a guy who must be stopped (being, in that respect, like Boon).

It’s a delicate balance. I’m really looking forward to what the writers come up with for that last episode.

I think it is kind of funny that for the final manhunts we are left with the cliff-hanger that Raylan is in custody, thanks to US Attorney Vasquez, who went completely off his nut. They don’t have anything to hold Raylan on, and as he saved Constable Bob’s life, he is a hero, so they will have to let him out.

Ava brought to Markham. Looks like the end for Ava.

Loretta switching sides, but with the promise of a shotgun relationship with Boone. Yuck.

Boyd. Wounded by Raylan in a gunfight, but not too badly, soundly concussed by Zachariah Exploding.

One more hour of snappy dialogue and shoot outs.
