"Justified" - new FX series - anyone watch?

I suspect the bartender let the two guys know (before or shortly after he called Raylan that his hat was back) who Raylan really is and what a little of his backstory is. I suspect that information made the two guys a little more amenable to letting go of the hat. The body language and the length of the reaction shots are all I have to go by so there may be more to it.

That was the song at the end of the show, not the beginning.

His name is Toby (or Tobey); his nickname is T-Bone.

I just checked out the Justified website. It lists two featured songs by Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks (appropriate for this episode) – “It Should Rain” and “It Just Turned Out That Way”. I’m not sure which was playing at the start of the show.

And one more post…

A couple of site do say that is was Malik Yoba playing T-Bone.

I’m gonna try to get Zeldar to wear “the hat.”

Timothy Oliphant is a natural!

Yep, that was a nice touch. I couldn’t be more tired of the nerdboy fanservice where the hero easily beats up any and all foes. Nice to see a human drama for grownups.

Another part that felt grownup was Wynona and Raylan. Raylan actually explained some things when he went to get her – none of that standard cryptic “You’ll just have to trust me”. And Wynona listened.

And then Raylan listened when Wynona said she loved Gary and explained why she left Raylan. I’m thinking it’s something she didn’t know herself at the time – why she couldn’t live with Raylan anymore – but something that she figured out later.

I’d like to know why she’s so familiar with handguns though.

I just knew that Duffy and his goon(s) would come ambling through the door while Raylan was taking so damn long to explain to Winona why she had to leave the house. He left it open, for crissakes! But that didn’t happen. Yet again, this show confounded my expectations. I like it when that happens.

I worried about that too.

Another nice touch was Gary sharing his dream for the mall with Raylan. It tied in nicely with Wynona telling Raylan that Gary was a hopeful person, something Raylan wasn’t.

Oh cool! I’ve played both of those and can’t tell which one was in the show either. I like their honky-tonk twang – might get the CD.

I guess I could have checked the website, but my PC is running so damn slow, and the FX website always has so much crap on it. Thanks for saving me the trouble!

That part bothered the hell out of me. She knew her husband was in some bad shit yet when Rayland calls her to tell her her life is in fucking danger and she pulls some stupid woman “i’m staying in the house alone and unarmed for no fucking reason until you come and get me and explain everything in detail”. At that point it takes a much better man than me to not just let the bitch die.

Or to grab her by the arm, drag her out of the house and say, “I’ll tell you in the car, dammit.”

A. Southern girl. Guns are a way of life.

B. Former wife of US Marshal (and I think ex-military guy). Hell, yes, he’s going to teach her to use a gun if she doesn’t already know when they hook up. Besides, dudes who are into guns just loooooove to teach their women to shoot.

And I KNEW that was Malik Yoba! But I still can’t place the guy who plays Duffy. IMDB doesn’t list it, and neither does the FX site. I know he played some smartass character in some sitcom at some point, but I can’t put my finger on it.

Jere Burns plays Wynn Duffy. Perhaps his other credits will help place his role in other shows. There was “Group Leader” in a Breaking Bad episode not too long ago. And as an oddity, his oldest credit is for “Steve, a Therapy Group Member” in a 1970 (!) show.

Even though the first page of the “Justified” (2010) doesn’t give much cast detail, there’s usually the line “US TV Schedule:” which links to the cast (or much of of it) of the latest episode(s). I found Burns’s data by way of the
“Fri. May 14 11:00 PM FX Hatless #1.12” and
“Sun. May 16 11:30 PM FX Hatless #1.12” links.

Hope this helps.

You’re probably thinking of “Dear John”, a show based around a support group with Judd Hirsch as the star.

Is there anybody besides me who thinks Jere Burns (Wynn Duffy) looks something like Reed Diamond who is Jason Pillar on 24? Also, there are times when the angle is right that Reed Diamnond resembles Kirk Douglas and therefore Michael Douglas.

Not really all the Justified specific, but since the name came up…

Whoever he is, I really liked him. A great bad guy.

I just started watching this show. I’ve been able to watch from episode 5 (I think). I’m confused about a few things.

It’s my understanding that Raylan got ‘sent’ back home to Kentucky because he pissed off the brass at the US Marshall’s office after shooting someone (one of the Crowders?) in Miami from a drug cartel. One episode I saw indicated that he shot a Crowder in the kitchen where Eva also shot a Crowder. This isn’t a separate shooting, or is it? Also, did the pilot ever show Raylan in Miami?

Yes, he shot a murderous bad guy in Miami after warning him to get out of town; the bad guy (no relation to the Crowders) drew on Raylan and Raylan shot him. It was the teaser of the pilot episode, so yes, we saw Raylan in Miami. He was then transferred back to his home state of Kentucky, where he renewed his acquaintance with lots o’ folks, including Eva, who had just shot her abusive husband, a Crowder, as he ate dinner. Then not long afterward that guy’s brother, Boyd, menaced her in her home and held a gun on Raylan, challenging him to a gunfight in the very same dining room. After a tense confrontation, Eva shot at Boyd but missed him; Raylan shot him in the chest but he lived (unlike in the short story, “Fire in the Hole,” that’s the main inspiration for the show).

And it’s “Marshals Service” with no apostrophe.

He didn’t just warn him to get out of town, he basically told the guy “get out of town in 24 hours or i will shoot you on sight”. Which makes you wonder what he would have done had the guy not drawn on him.
