"Justified" - new FX series - anyone watch?

I know it is, but often screen writers don’t get the feel when adapting a work.

Ah ok. Re-reading my response, it seems snarkier than I intended. I just wasn’t sure what you meant, but now it makes sense.

Shield centered around the monstrous house of cards that Vic was building and had to fall down at some point. It fell, the drama is over.

Quite so. And I have no good reason to suspect any friction among the creative types. It’s almost like I heard the exact opposite: they were a tightknit group.

I also miss the work some of them did on The Unit and also miss that show, even if I could be watching reruns of it. Reruns are usually a no-no for me, but I swear I’'m having a great time revisiting House on three networks these days. It’s amazing how much of those shows I tend to forget!

I’ll be watching. I loved Tim in Deadwood and Damages.

Watched it on DVR last night - wow, that was excellent. I can finally understand why Elmore Leonard has been so involved in promoting the series - it really rings true to his tone and dialogue. The interactions between Raylen and the woman and also with the bad guy felt straight out of a Leonard book. What Would Elmore Do?" Indeed.

Dutch Leonard is known for hating the adaptions of his work. When he autographed my first edition of 52 Pickup for me he wrote “I almost liked the film, but not quite - Elmore Leonard”

Will definitely be watching.

I need to check this out. I just read an interview w/ Goggins about the show and he says that his character was supposed to die in the pilot but they liked his character so much that they decided to keep him on.

They also talked about his fantastic set of teeth, which are a bridge. His original teeth got knocked out when he was younger.

I watched it on TiVO last night too. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Olyphant plays the cool character very well. Was Raylen only in a Leonard SS? I feel like I’ve read a full novel with him as a character too.

I thought about the “expensive dentistry” thread when I saw those teeth. They’re huge! He could eat rocks with those.

I’m skeptical that they planned to kill him off but if that’s what he said, I guess I have to believe it. For one thing, he’s too big a name for a one-off, and for another, Raylen needs a nemesis.

I enjoyed it for what it is, and have added it to my DVR list. It was good to see Peter Greene again (the guy he shot in the beginning).

One question driving me crazy, and he isn’t listed on IMDb for this episode (neither is Peter Greene, BTW): where do I recognize the one who was Boyd’s friend with the red hair? The one who got handcuffed with Dewey Crow in the car?

I haven’t followed up on it yet, either, but that guy reminds me of one of the characters in True Blood. I’ll be surprised if he is, but nonetheless…

It seems that the pilot is to played tonight at 11:00. I have set my DVR again.

They sort of did that with the SHIELD. The cop who goes undercover on Mackey’s team for Aceveda was promoted heavily as being the central figure of the show. They killed him at the end of the pilot to get give people a “What the hell?” moment.

They could have easily been going for something similar to that with “Justified”
(which by the way was originally called “Lawman”- what an awful title in this day and age.)

Ah ha! Thank you. Thats been bothering me too. Couldn’t remember where I saw that actor before. I’m now 75 percent sure that actor was Todd Lowe, who played Terry on True Blood.

I’ll watch tonight. The plot is a little limited. Sooner or later there will have to be a show down between Olyphant and Goggins’ characters. The childhood friends turned enemies is a pretty old trope.

That’s exactly who I was thinking of. IMDB doesn’t have Justified listed, but who knows?

It was Kevin Rankin. I recognise him from Bionic Woman.

Yep…I do believe you are correct. I’m usually pretty good at id’ing actors, too. The height difference between Lowe and Rankin should have tipped me off.

Got to finish it this time. I liked it enough to record it next week.

Is it just me or did the line (paraphrased) “You’re about the angriest man I know” directed to Raylen, seem a bit hard to accept? I know his work from Deadwood and Hitman (2007/I) but even in those roles his look seems far from angry. Determined, sure. Intense, maybe. But I don’t automatically see angry.

How about you?
