Any episode with Dewey Crowe being Dewey Crowe is a fantastic one. The whole three hundred gag was brilliant.
Anyone else notice the actor was in Almost Human recently? I spent the whole episode thinking ‘that guys looks awfully familiar’!

I thought it was a good start to the season, although I had a little bit of a hard time remembering who everyone was. I remembered that Sammy Tonin was in charge at Detroit (even if that didn’t last long) but I don’t quite remember how he got to be at the top.
I loved seeing Dave Foley as one of the Canadian mobsters, that made me laugh, though I’m guessing the Canadians won’t be in more episodes.
I would have to rewatch it, but I assumed that he shot twice, the sudden holes and pressure started ripping things apart and that’s what caused the third leak before bursting.
no - there was three leaks - from 2 bullets - he’s just that good.
Me too. I had to look up Wendy (the paralegal with the tramp stamp) – she was the second Ms. Pasternak on an episode of Two and a Half Men. And the marshal accompanying Raylan – Todd Packer from The Office. All that sappy talk about his family made me think he won’t last the season.
Wasn’t Sammy Tonin the incompetent son of the big guy in Detroit, played by Adam Arkin?
I know we all watch Justified for the characters over the story, but JEEZ, this episode took two leaps that bothered me.
it’s made pretty clear that neither Detroit nor the Canadians want to continue the heroin deal with Boyd - all they want is the money he’s carrying. The Detroit guy should have an inkling of how dangerous Boyd can be from his visit to Kentucky last season. So, instead of killing Boyd as soon as humanly possible, he puts on a dog-and-pony show that lasts just long enough for Boyd to turn the tables on him. To top things off, Boyd still gives the money to the Canadians, who have no good reason to live up to their end of the deal.
The funeral director. OK, I get that the guy is arrogant, but I assume that he must have some degree of intelligence in order to maintain his position in the Rotary Club Mafia. What this guy did was akin to finding a coiled rattlesnake in his path & dealing with the situation by giving it a Three Stooges eye poke.
Cracked me up! Great line!!!
Ha, that is true, he is that good.
Yeah, I remember that, I just didn’t remember why he was in charge. Looking at Wikipedia, I think this explains it:
Once Theo Tonin was out of the country and Augustine was dead, then Sammy was in charge. Looking over the summary of last season, I had forgotten how much had happened.
Yeah, I didn’t understand why Boyd gave the money to the Canadians. He obviously didn’t want to, and Duffy had to urge him to do so.
This didn’t bother me. Paxton, the funeral director, was feeling arrogant, since it was his scheme that got Ava incarcerated, although it was supposed to get Boyd. It was a combination of someone who’s used to be in charge, and feeling arrogant since he got one over on a guy who’s threatened him before and killed two of Paxton’s acquaintances, and people constantly misunderestimating Boyd.
The Marshal that accompanied Raylan was trying way to hard to find out where wife/kid are - its clearly a setup for his eventual death.
Anyone else notice Crowes 25:17 tattoo? Loved it.
One thing I didn’t understand, Raylan just cost the Marshal Service $300,000.00 for unnecessarily beating his prisoners and no one even slaps his wrist? They just send him off to Florida.
.
The punishment was sending him to Florida.
This is my favorite show on TV; I would say that Season 2 was the best season of TV for any show ever (and yes, I’ve seen the Wire, The Shield, Homicide, Breaking Bad, etc…). However, I will say that I hate recognizing actors; it makes it difficult to suspend disbelief. I especially hate recognizing comedy actors in a show that’s not a comedy. Sorry guys, but I wish Dave Folely hadn’t shown up, and having Michael Rappaport as the main bad guy is going to make watching this thing difficult. I much prefer it when it’s unknown-to-me actors.
My only quarrel (ha!) so far with this episode were the two hookers in the hot tub with Dewey. They were far too pretty and nubile to be hookers, although I did appreciate the rear nudity. The hookers from Audrey’s in the last season were far more believable: not all that pretty, fairly stupid, and hooked on dope. But hey, you know, booties. I like that in this series we have the alliterative names: Boman, Bowman, Jr, and Boyd Crowder; and now Daryl, Dilly, Dewey and Danny, maybe more. I knew a guy from that neck of the woods. His name was Daryl; his brothers were Feryl and Meryl.
Were they definitely hookers or perhaps semi-pros from the area hanging on until the money/drugs run out?
Maybe Dewey was able to attract a better sort of hooker with his three hundred bucks.
I think the story/character development has stalled…and they’re inserting more graphic violence and some naked butts to fill the gaps. This one was just too gory for my tastes in cable TV.
I won’t watch the show again. Bummer, as the first 4 seasons are awesome.
We’ve only seen one episode of the new season, so I think it’s a little premature to suggest the show has stalled.
It just felt like the “season premiere” didn’t really set up anything “new” for me. More of the same, characters doing what they’ve always done, just with more violence.
To me, that’s stalled development. Maybe I’ll revisit it mid-season to see if it looks worth catching up on.
They can’t do anything too new, else viewers will be yelling about sharks and ski jumps. They’ve already had way more major crime than is believable.
I’m fine spending quality time with Raylan and the Crowes and Crowders, seeing how Boyd springs Ava, what the new Crowe plans to do in Kentucky. I wonder if the Haitian will go with him. He’s kinda fun.
Would you prefer it to be more like Andy Griffith? This is a violent show about good guys and bad guys, and has never pretended to be anything other than an over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek portrayal of that. That said, I’d be surprised if the series continues much further than this season, as the main family lines are approaching an end to their story arcs.
Not to mention running out of members…
