kabbes in the Big Apple

Folks

It looks as though I’ll be paying a flying visit to New York some time late next month. It’s a work thing, so I won’t be there for long but I will be there alone.

Anyone interested in keeping a poor ol’ kabbes company for a couple of hours? My memories of the place are somewhat bleak, so I’d appreciate being shown that it isn’t a total dive

I highly recommend kabbes to all you NYDopers. He’s a lovely fellow.

Please take him out for a drink on me!

Thank you Annie

Update: looks like I’ll be giving the training course on the Thurs 24th or possibly Fri 25th July. I’ll probably fly out on Weds 23rd and could come back on Sat 26th or even Sun 27th if I wanted to. Does that help any?

kabbes, Francesca and I have informed the proper authorities and they’ll be on the look-out for a mathematically-inclinded groovy British guy at the local bus stations and ‘buy-ready-to-open’ Irish pubs.

Enjoy!

Annie, you and Fran are the sweetheartiest of sweethearts.

It would be my pleasure to accompany you to as many of New York’s raunchy dens of iniquity that we can fit in.

Fine, fine, we’ll just go to Tea & Sympathy.

Looking forward to it.

C’mon. That’s no fun. Kabbes, ever been to The City before? I figure there’s no way you can escape Top of the Empire State… and how about some nice museums? Forbes is good…

People, go and meet this guy, and you may get to play Simpsons
Top Trumps.

(Kabbes: tir bought me a set, and I have caved from my “not cannon” stance :D)

Woohoo, iniquity with Maeglin. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

But now crossbows, longbows or any other kind of bows, you hear?

And E-Sabbath, does that mean that you’re on board too? C’mon, you know you want to.

P

Might as well be, provided it’s a friday or saturday… I work till 5, and it takes me an hour to get home and a hour to get back in the city… cause I ain’t no fool and I ain’t leaving my car on MLK after hours.

So, Kabbesdopefest, what’s the plan?

I’m thinking Friday night (the 25th) as perfect for me. Other than that, I’m leaving the plans to you guys I hope

Thing is, all the museums are closed by the time I get into the city. I’m not much for the night life, either. (Don’t smoke, don’t drink, what do you do?)

OK, one NY Dopergathering coming right up.

Friday, July 25, Check.

Will this be just drinks, sir? Or dinner and drinks? Dinner, drinks and nightlife, perhaps?

And while we are at it, may we throw in a cultural event or activity? Summer Saturdays are lovely in New York.

Oh, good - glad you saw this, Billdo. I’d definitely be up for it.

Dinner, drinks, nightlife? Did someone just play my tune?

But I hear that there isn’t much of that kind of thing in New York…

I don’t know yet what time my flight back will be, so I don’t know what kind of time I’ll have available on the Saturday. But if at all possible (for me as well as for you guys) it’d be cool to do something then too.

Cheers

Any news, kabbes?

Hey guys. Sorry for the silence - I was in Bermuda last week. (That almost makes me sound cool. Unfortunately the reality doesn’t quite match up).

I’m finding out what’s going on right now. I’ll let you all know ASAP.

Cheers

That was quick. Efficient admin assistant we have here.

I’m arriving Terminal 3 of (I assume) JFK on Weds 23 July at 12:10. I’m doing the training course on the Tursday. I’m leaving on Saturday at 19:30.

As far as I can see, that gives me all Friday to do the things to do and Saturday to recover, if that is possible in one day.

That’s all I got.

I guess the time has come to make actual plans.

I’m not sure what you’re interested in, but I imagine that since you’re coming from across the pond, you’d appreciate some all-American food and entertainment. Perhaps we could dine at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, known far and wide for its introduction to New York of a Texas favorite, Frito pie (a bag of corn chips split open and drenched with chili), as well as various tasty drinks served in mason jars.

After that, we could go to one of several bars that are favorites of the New Yorkers. I think we can select which one after dinner, depending on the mood and composition of the crowd. I’m thinking of two initial possibilities, each of which has service staff that put on performances, but very different ones.

That sounds great, and there doesn’t appear to be any dissenting voices so far.

I like performances. Obviously, you’re thinking some form of late night opera?
