Do not shoot the bears!

(Feeding them is encouraged.)

Awww donkeybear, don’t worry. I am very pro-bear, they are my totem. Regarding the little female bear, the local bear specialist has gone on record with the presumption that she probably fell off a cliff and sustained severe head trauma, which caused the blindness as well as the other un-bear-like behavior. When she was found she was turning around in aimless circles, actually bumped into one of the Fish and Wildlife guys and scrambled away as fast as she could. There was no indication that she had been hurt by another bear, but blind and seriously brain injured it was a mercy to put her down, rather than let her slowly starve, or to become prey to another bear. Poor thing. I have always hated it when a bear has had to be put down in defense of life or property, it hardly ever happens here in town, but in the village it was a more frequent event. I have gotten up in the morning on many occasions in the village, only to find two paw prints and a nose print in between on my window, which is a little bit freaky, but no big deal. It’s when the salmon and berries are done and the bears have headed for higher ground to den up (Kodiak bears don’t hibernate in the true sense of the word, it’s just not cold enough) and there is one or more which haven’t put on enough weight to get through the winter that become a danger. When they begin to break down smoke houses and fish drying racks, and then move on to breaking into homes someone has to put them down. It’s not something that is done without village consensus that the bear is a danger, both out of respect for the bear as well as taking into consideration how difficult it can be to put a bear down, as well as the fact that a bear killed without a permit must, by law, be skinned out, paws and head removed, and all those parts sent in to Fish and Wildlife to be sealed, which then leaves a rather large carcass to be taken care of. It’s a lot of work, and as I said, the Natives don’t kill for sport. Although the name chaoticbear sorta indicates a bear not quite behaving normally, and the rule here is a fed bear is a dead bear, sorry hun! The next time I volunteer for an MMP OP I will tell you a good bear tale, I promise!

Oh, this remodel is at the “What was I thinking?” stage. My contractor friend (okay, his name is Jeff) has ordered the flooring I want, which will take 4 - 6 weeks to get here. So instead of putting in the new subflooring he is going to move on to the demolition of the last two walls, removing the wretched old forced air furnace, putting in a new wall and building my built in bookcase. Also putting up drywall over the oh-so-ugly faux panelling that so many people here think is a must. I guess that people think that they need to try and make everyplace look as log cabin-ish as possible. While I went through a log cabin phase about two decades ago, having spent enough time in one cured that little fantasy! The floor will be vinyl (poms have accidents, and The Son and I have a lot of allergies, he also has ecxema and I have asthma) so with the forced air and carpeting gone our lives will be improved. It’s a nice shade of grey called Wrought Iron which is neutral enough that I can change color schemes at will…yay! Plus being much more disabled-friendly, getting around the house in the chair is a pain on carpet. I can lay area rugs around, and the upkeep will be so much easier. The new Toyo stove has been pumping out the heat, I was far too warm last night! It will be nice when the snow begins to fly though. However, at the moment the house is total chaos! (Didja notice how I brought the conversation right back around to that? lol!)

So I have been typing long enough to wish rosieposie a very happy birthday on her actual birthday! I hope you enjoy your day!

Enough for now, I am gonna surf the boards for a bit before I go to bed, I’ll yak at you all again tomorrow!

‘mornin’ all. I can’t believe I am actually awake this early today [sub]my birthday[/sub] but chorus is having a coach today so rehearsal starts at 9am. So I’ll be spending today [sub]my birthday[/sub] singing. so that’s a good thing. Then tonight [sub]my birthday[/sub] I’m dining with some friends at Legal Seafood. Mmmmm, mmmmm!!! And since some other friends can’t make it tonight, I’ll be doing that again next week
Say, guess what? I may have forgotten to mention this but did you all know today is [sub]my birthday[/sub]?
Thanks and Thanks in advance for all the good wishes.
oh and by the way, I’m 48 and not ashamed of it. (altho there are days I wish I felt that young ;))

So, rosie, are you saying it’s [sub]your birthday[/sub] today? I had no idea!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually I just stopped in to wish you a
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Off to get ready to go to the park. It’s raining…boooooooooooooo!!! I wanted to walk around and admire stuff. Fortunately, we’re working indoors, but still: booooooo!!!

Happy Birth Day rosie !!!

Happy birthday, Rosie!

Hello, Cool Kids™! Have you missed me? I know you have; I was gone for a whole day. Not that I was doing anything terribly exciting – working, taking the dogs swimming – but somehow I never had time to waste on the Dope. It just ended up being one of those days, y’know? Where life interferes with what’s truly important?

Congrats on the demolition, kai, and I hope everything gets installed perfectly and you love it. I was going to askabout the arctic entry, but I see that’s already been answered. And can I come try your banya? Papa Tigs probably wants to, too, since he grew up in the land of old Finlander farmers with their genyoowine saunas and then spent a number of years in Japan with the heavenly sento down the street (I’d move back to Japan just for easy access to the sento), so a banya would be right up his alley, so to speak.

We did one exciting thing yesterday: switched cell carriers to one that actually gives us good reception in our house. We’d had T-Mobile when we moved up here, but I guess there’s no tower close enough so our signal was poor at best and often nonexistent. But when palebunny was visiting, we discovered that with her carrier there’s a strong signal, so we switched to that one (having had our last contract expire long ago). So now I can actually use my cell phone in the house again, yay! Those unlimited night and weekend minutes are very useful, especially since I call my mom a lot these days since she’s older and likes regular calls.

Yeah, I know you’re all positively overwhelmed at the excitement of it all. My life is just one thing after another, isn’t it?

Ah hah! Finally found something useful to do with Miracle Whip!

Today I think will go towntown hunting my Hallowe’een costume fabric. I need life, energy, excitement, chocolate, and shopping. There are a bunch of dishes from yesterday, which Mr. lissar was definitely going to wash before class, which I will maybe tackle when I get home, before church. If I feel like it, dammit.
Happy Birthday Rosie!

I will not get carried away at the fabric store and buy stupid stuff. I need paint, too, for the mask. Hmm.

Good morning everyone.

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, BIRTHDAY ROSIE!

I’ve recently awoke and am waiting for the coffee to finish so I can finish waking up.

Today’s plans call for going out to dinner with some friends of ours. So, much for a do-nothing weekend, again. Mr. Taters wants to take them to that chinese buffet place we ate at the other night.

My son had a friend stay the night last night, so they spent the evening playing computer games and the like.

We’ll probably putz around the house for awhile today, and then head out with our friends. That’s eally about it for plans.

Hey y’all I’m home! I got in around eleven-thirty last night and crashed. Today I have a sinus headache. It’s my post airport/airplane sinus headache. :frowning:

I’m mostly caught up. So, here’s what I got to say then I’ma take some Benadryl[sup]TM[/sup] and crash again:

It’s just not as much fun if you don’t get carried away and buy lots of fabric you don’t need. What’s your costume? I’m making wings, but I’m not sure I’m going to wear them for Halloween. I have other ideas, too.

swampy, I have a yucky sinus-y headache, too. I’m debating going to a picnic thingy we’re having for work today. I just want to nap and watch Rocky and Bullwinkle because there’s nothing on TV, and I don’t like my job, but I need lunch, so maybe I’ll go anyway.

Happy birthday Rosie!!!

I’m late, and I totally missed out on the conversation about blowing stuff up. I’m a girl, so I didn’t blow lots of stuff up when I was a kid. I feel like I missed out. I did burn things with a magnifying glass, so that counts for something, I think.

It is so very obvious that I was NOT fully awake when I posted above.

I’m glad you’re back home safely, Swampy. I’m sorry about the sinus problems though. You too, Magic Eyes.

I’m fortunate, I rarely have sinus issues.

Uh, I’m just not feeling the urge to do anything. I’ll need to get my hiney in gear though. You know, I’m looking forward to the first really rainy, ucky day here. The kind of day that makes you just want to turn on the fire and read a good book or watch a good movie.

Man, for a Saturday, it’s been a pretty sucky day. If it wasn’t for Rosie’s Birthday it would be a total waste!!!

On my way to class this morning, I got stuck behind yet another yutz who was incapable of driving the speed limit while on a 2-lane road with very limited passing zones (which, naturally were full of cars when I got to them…) But class went well. I trimmed the 4 pieces I threw last week and put a handle on the pitcher. Then I threw a very round pot and 2 pieces that will be put together as one next week.

The woman sitting next to me is a newbie, and she’s a hoot! She threw a nice bowl, then put a spout on it - it had the makings of a gravy boat. She decided it looked like a urinal for a little boy. Which, naturally, led to talk of Cheerios and potty training boys and co-peeing and getting to be the top stream… I didn’t have any sons and I only had one brother, but my husband was the first of three boys, so I heard the stories! Unfortunately, she (as I have done too many times) tried to “fix” part of the pot, and it crashed. No more urinal… <sigh> But she did throw 2 nice little bowls, and I gave her some of my cake decorating tools to decorate them.

My trip home was awful, too. First, I had to run by WalMart for critter food - the lines were horrid! You’d think it was the midst of the Christmas shopping season already! But I got my stuff and got back on the road, which went well for about 4 miles. Just outside of Upper Marlboro, traffic stopped. It went from 2 lanes and 2 ramps from a crossing road to a single lane at a stoplight. It took forever to get through that mess. Once past it, nary a problem, but all told, my 90-minute trip would up taking 2.5 hours. sheesh.

I’ve had a late lunch, and there’s a roast thawing for dinner. The perm press load is in the washer. I’ve run the vacuum some - more to be done, but I’ll get to it. I need to empty the dishwasher, too - I ran the load before I left, and everything needs to be put away now. **FCD ** is at the boat - he intends to get it running today. He won’t be able to do any more work in it for 2 more weeks, since he leaves for Denver tomorrow, returns Thurs, then leaves Friday for Orlando.

Oh yeah - while I was warming up lunch, a couple of nice ladies came to my front door with a copy of the Watchtower. Good ol’ Bernie was nice and noisy - why does a noisy black hairball seem mean?? Anyway, I let the younger woman talk a bit, then I cut her off telling her I had something on the stove. She apologized and left me her magazine. OK, I fibbed - my food was being nuked. Still, I was hungry and not interested in whether or not science can help us live forever, or whatever the heck she was going on about… I should never answer the door - no one good ever stops by.

And that’s all for now. The day’s gotta get better, right??

Back from rehearsal - it was great. Each different coach we have presents us with a different approach to the same goal. Each gal embraces the approach that works for her and we all get to same spot. We sounded wonderful!! Now - if only we can retain what we learned today, we’ll wowo the judges in April. (we have 6 months to do it)

oh - and one of the gals remembered osmething I’d asked of her a year ago - she back me a Weight Watchers Pinapple Angel Food Cake (no, I do not have the recipe, but I will ask her for it if anyone is interested) It’s yummy, not too sweet, no fat, and the pinapple chunks keep it moist. Mmmmm mmmm!!!

:smack: er - “baked” not “back” <--
(what happened to the wally the putz smiley?)

Traffic is a bitch, isn’t it FCM? It seems to ruin everything.

I hope your day has improved. I haven’t done anything productive. I did manage to get myself cleaned up, but I should do some stuff around the house. I meant to, but I got all involved in some movie. It was very good, but the ending was very bittersweet. Yes, I was sniffling…I’m girl, after all.

First load of clothes is hanging in their respective closets. Second load in the dryer, third in the washer. **FCD ** just called - he’s on his way home. I’m about to feed the critters.

Yep, it’s a little better than it was. Plus I have ice cream for later. Yum.
